No. 3 Charleston shuts down CU

Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. - NSCAA Division II #3 Charleston scored once in each half and blanked the Yellow Jackets, 2-0, in a non-conference men's soccer game.

The Golden Eagles remain unbeaten on the season at 13-0-1 while Cedarville drops to 8-4-2.

Charleston got on the board in the 19th minute. It remained a 1-0 difference until the hosts tacked on an insurance goal in the 59th.

Despite the setback to a ranked team for the third time this season, Head Coach Brett Faro saw a number of positives.

"Charleston is an extremely good team. They have talent all over the field and no doubt one of the best teams in the country. With that said, I thought we were right there. We absorbed a lot in the first half, but I felt we carried a lot of the play in the second half and created a number of chances.

"They capitalized on a few to get the result but, we played well and made it really hard for them. The shots were 12-6 and it was very much a midfield game. For a team that averages a lot of goals and hasn't been held to single digit shots all year, it was a good measuring stick for us in regards to where we need to get to compete with the best in the country. We'll need to regroup quickly for three big conference games this week."

Charleston has outscored its opposition by a 60-8 margin this fall and had fewer than 12 shots only once. The hosts outshot the Jackets 12-6 overall and 8-0 on goal. Yellow Jacket keeper Ethan Dewhurst was credited with six saves.

Cedarville hosts Salem International on Senior Day in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference encounter on Monday. It has a rare early kickoff time of 4:30 p.m.
