Cedarville edges Roberts; moves on to NCCAA final

CHAMPIONSHIP INFO

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Kenna Anderson's goal just before halftime was all the top-seeded Lady Jackets needed in a 1-0 result against No. 5 Roberts Wesleyan in the NCCAA Semifinals.

Cedarville, 15-6-1, will meet No. 3 Ottawa AZ, 15-7-1, for the championship banner on Saturday at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. EST.

Anderson's tally came with just two seconds left on the clock in the first period. Olivia Hoffman's cross found the foot of the sophomore forward, who drilled a 12-yard shot high into the net.

The Lady Jacket defense did the rest in recording their third shutout of the tournament and 12th overall. Allison Garlock stopped five shots in goal.

CU outshot the Redhawks 17-10 overall and 8-5 on goal.

Quotable: Head Coach Jonathan Meade

"I'm proud of the way the team played today. We played with a lot of heart and we will have to be at our best in the championship as Ottawa has a lot of dynamic scoring threats.

"We are blessed to be here and just want to play in a way that's shows our gratefulness to God for allowing us to compete with the gifts He's given to us."

Stinger Notes:
  • The 15 wins matches the program record for most in a season (2013).
  • Hoffman recorded a point in her tenth consecutive game.
  • Garlock added on to her school record with her 11th shutout of the season.
  • It was the tenth 1-0 score line this fall. CU is 6-4 in such results with four straight wins.
  • The Jackets lead the all-time series vs. Roberts Wesleyan, 6-3-1.
  • Cedarville will be making its first-ever appearance in the NCCAA championship game.
