Top seed eliminates Yellow Jackets

NCAA BRACKET

INDIANAPOLIS - No. 1 seed Indianapolis made the most of its opportunities to down No. 8 Cedarville, 3-1, in an NCAA Division II Super Region 3 second round contest at Key Stadium.

The Greyhounds, 16-1-2 overall and ranked No. 7 nationally, march on while the Yellow Jackets end their season at 14-5-1.

UIndy withstood a flurry of CU chances early in the match and then scored twice within seven minutes for a 2-0 cushion midway through the first half.

The hosts got a big insurance goal in the 76th minute before Jackson Isaacs spoiled the shutout by rifling a 12-yarder into the upper corner in the 86th.

The two sides played on relatively level terms. UIndy attempted more shots overall, 17-13, and had a slight edge in shots on goal, 7-6.

Stinger Notes:
  • Isaacs' tally was his fifth of the season.
  • Jared Zacharias came up with four saves in goal.
  • CU has gotten as far as the second round in all three of its NCAA appearances.
  • UIndy holds a 5-1 lead in the all-time season series which began in 2011.
