LAKELAND, Fla. - Cedarville overcame a sluggish start to knock off Florida Southern, 82-73, and complete a two-game sweep of the Florida Southern Classic at the Jenkins Field House.
The Yellow Jackets, 7-4 overall, head to the Christmas break having won six of their last seven games.
Isaiah Speelman nailed six three-pointers and scored 22 points to lead four players in double figures.
Brandon Maughmer (16),
Jayvon Maughmer (13), and
Tytist Dean (11) also hit twin figures while
Jacob Drees totaled ten rebounds.
The start of this one wasn't very promising as the Mocs raced out to a 13-2 lead in the opening five-plus minutes.
The visitors recovered for a 40-32 margin by halftime. They shot 60 percent in the second half including a blazing 6-of-7 from deep to push the lead to as large as 77-59 with 4:30 to play.
Stinger Notes:
- The Yellow Jackets hit 14 three-pointers again and were 28-of-53 (.528) in the two contests.
- For the Classic, CU shot .561 from the field overall and .815 at the stripe.
- Dean's points (11) were a career-high and Drees' boards (10) matched his career best.
- Drees also dished out a game-high seven assists.
- Cedarville had a 39-31 advantage in the rebounding department.
- Conner TenHove became the 20th player in program history to reach 1,500 career points.
- CU and FSC are 1-1 in the all-time series.
