Walsh beats buzzer, Jackets on Senior Night

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Walsh got a layup at the buzzer to nip Cedarville, 81-79, in a big G-MAC women's basketball matchup at the Callan Athletic Center on Senior Night.

The outcome throws the top of the league standings into a logjam as the Yellow Jackets, Walsh, and Kentucky Wesleyan are now tied with four losses each.

The winning basket came after CU erased a nine-point deficit with less than five minutes remaining.

The Jackets hit three triples coming down the stretch before Ashlyn Huffman finished off a baseline drive with 12.5 seconds to go to forge a 79-79 tie.

Huffman, who dished out a game-high nine assists, and Isabelle Bolender scored 20 points each.

Emily Chapman tallied 17 points and Paige Garr came off the bench to score 12 for Cedarville, 17-4 overall and 17-4 G-MAC.

Stinger Notes:
  • Huffman and fellow senior Stevie Johnting were honored before the game.
  • Chapman and Garr were both 3-for-3 behind the three-point line.
  • Each team pulled in 33 rebounds with Bolender leading the home team with nine.
  • The Jackets were 11-for-11 at the free throw line and are 38-for-40 (.950) in the last three games.
  • CU was 8-for-16 from deep, but the 16 attempts was a season-low.
  • This was Walsh's first visit to the Callan Athletic Center in nine years.
  • The visiting team won both regular season games and Cedarville leads the all-time series, 22-21.
  • The Jackets have nine days off until playing at Hillsdale on Feb. 27 in the regular season finale.
