Flaugher, CU walk off win vs. Charleston

WATCH WINNING HIT

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Arica Flaugher belted a two-run triple in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Lady Jackets a 4-3 victory over Charleston and a split of their non-conference twinbill.

The Golden Eagles claimed the first game, 1-0, which also took eight innings.

With runners on the corners and one out, Flaugher ripped an 0-2 pitch to the wall in right center scoring Kaley Clark and Faith Bergner with the deciding runs.

Flaugher finished 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and three RBI. Carrie Jespersen and McKenna Smith stole two bases apiece.

Abbey Mayes, 2-2, pitched the final three innings to get the win for Cedarville, 9-5.

In the opener, the two teams were scoreless through seven innings. Charleston pushed across a run in the top of the eighth and the Jackets loaded the bases with nobody out in their half, but came up empty.

Stinger Notes:
  • The international tiebreaker was used in both games where each team starts with a runner at second base in extra innings.
  • Casey Bertke went the distance in the opener allowing an unearned run on three hits with six strikeouts.
  • Bertke has gone 35 innings this spring without giving up an earned run.
  • Smith tallied both hits for CU in the first game.
  • Second game starter Adaline Ziehmer fanned eight batters in five innings.
  • Neither team committed an error in either game.
  • The all-time series between the two schools is tied, 2-2.
