CEDARVILLE, Ohio -
Mark Rowan and
Victor Pomelli scored two goals apiece to ignite No. 2 seed Cedarville to a 6-1 romp over No. 7 Kentucky Wesleyan in a G-MAC Quarterfinal contest.
The United Soccer Coaches Division II No. 23 Yellow Jackets, 7-1-1, advance to play No. 3 seed Tiffin in Thursday's second semifinal in Columbus at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
The visiting Panthers stunned CU with the first goal on a nifty finish in the 13th minute.
It was all Yellow Jackets from there on out. Rowan,
Gui Fernandes, and Pomelli made it 3-1 by halftime.
Rowan,
Mauricio Ochoa Vazquez, and Pomelli tacked on three more in the second period.
Fernandes, Vazquez,
Jonathan Bukasa, and
Sammy Kilimann were all credited with assists
Stinger Notes:
- Fernandes has goals in three of the last four games.
- Pomelli's goals were the first of his career.
- The Jackets had a sizeable advantage in shots overall, 31-6, as well as on goal, 13-1.
- Cedarville has never lost to KWC in 17 meetings.
- Tiffin eliminated No. 6 Findlay, 4-2, in its first round game.
- Thursday's first semifinal at noon features host and No. 5 Ohio Dominican against No. 1 Ohio Valley.
