NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The No. 6 Yellow Jackets nearly erased all of a 21-point deficit before dropping a 68-61 outcome to No. 3 Hillsdale in an NCAA Division II Midwest Region Quarterfinal.
Cedarville ends the season 19-13 following its first-ever NCAA Championship appearance.
The Chargers expanded a 15-point halftime advantage to 45-24 early in the second half at Walsh University's Alumni Arena.
The Jackets scored 13 unanswered points in the next six minutes to get back in it and got as close as 56-55 with 5:20 left.
However, Hillsdale regained control with a 9-2 spurt to put the contest out of reach.
Branden Maughmer registered a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds.
Jayvon Maughmer scored 11 points and
Quinton Green chipped in 10.
Stinger Notes:
- Jacob Drees went 4-for-4 from the field including a three-pointer for nine points off the bench.
- Maughmer ended his career with 1,709 career points - 15th on the program's all-time list.
- Conner TenHove (1,698), Quinton Green (1,288), Kollin Van Horn (1,109), and Isaiah Speelman (1,070) all finished with over 1,000 career points.
- Cedarville had beaten Hillsdale, 68-66, one week earlier in the G-MAC Semifinals also at Walsh.
- It was the Jackets' third straight weekend in North Canton - regular season finale, G-MAC Tournament, NCAA Regional.
- Hillsdale won three-of-four vs. CU this season and leads the all-time series, 12-1.
