CANTON, Ohio - A six-run third inning propelled the Lady Jackets to a 10-6 G-MAC win at Malone in the 2022 season finale.
The Pioneers rallied for a 4-1 decision in the first game.
Cedarville ends the campaign at 24-19 overall and 9-13 G-MAC.
In game two,
Casey Bertke's two-run double gave the visitors the lead for good. She finished with two hits and was one of nine CU players to get a base hit.
Sami Buettell,
Lexi Parsons, and
Adaline Ziehmer contributed two hits apiece.
Ziehmer, 6-4, went the distance inside the circle and struck out seven.
Malone scored four times on three hits and two errors in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim the opener.
Buettell had two of the team's five hits which included a double by
Kaley Clark.
Stinger Notes:
- Fifth-year senior McKenna Smith subbed out in the first inning of the first game and did not return.
- Smith, who had started 93 straight games, finished as a career .292 hitter in 192 games played.
- As for the other two seniors, Buettell totaled four hits on the day and Carrie Jespersen scored twice in the final game.
- In the opener, Bertke took a perfect game into the fifth inning before issuing a two-out walk.
- Ziehmer threw a career-high 143 pitches in the second game.
- The Lady Jackets hold a 34-21 margin in the all-time series vs. Malone.
