Six straight! Lady Jackets remain NCCAA Champions

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville took advantage of its depth in the running events to comfortably win its sixth consecutive NCCAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship banner at the Doden Field House.

The Lady Jackets topped the 16-team field with 161 points. Bethel was the runner-up with 106 points and Greenville had 94.

Alexandra Brizzi provided one of the many Saturday highlights by winning the 200 meter dash in a school record 25.08 seconds.

Kiersten Franklin took first in the 400 (58.58) and Naomi Herman won the 3,000 (10:15.95) for her second victory of the weekend.

Other All-Americans (top three finishers) included Franklin in the 200 (2nd; 25.14), Rachel Tarwater in the 800 (3rd; 2:20.67), Aubrey Harrington (2nd; 5:10.88) and Abigail Atkins (3rd; 5:12.95) in the mile, and Hannah Hartenburg in the 3K (2nd; 10:39.10).

The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Jessica Ferguson, Martha Bergley, Sydney Diedrich, and Mallory Gasper was third in 4:03.67.

On Friday, Haleigh Eckert won her third straight pole vault title by clearing 12-2.50 (3.72 meters).

The distance medley relay foursome of Atkins, Tarwater, Diedrich, and Harrington won in 12:36.38.

The other champion was Herman in the 5,000 meters in 17:52.94. She was joined on the All-America team by Sydney Yoder, who was third in 18:24.46.

Also earning All-America recognition was the runner-up 4 x 200 meter relay team that set a school record.

Franklin, Ferguson, Hope Carroll, and Gasper were timed in 1:46.26 to edge the old mark by 0.37 seconds.

  • Cedarville was recognized as the NCCAA Women's Indoor Coaching Staff of the Year.
  • Brizzi's 300-meter track conversion in the 200 is 24.70 seconds and is a NCAA Division II provisional qualifier.
  • Franklin is also a provisional qualifier in the 200 tying for the ninth-fastest time in school history.
  • Emma Bailey was fourth in the shot put at 42-3.50 (12.89m) - the second-best mark on the Jackets' all-time Top 10.
