CEDARVILLE, Ohio -
Jayvon Maughmer scored 28 points to lead the No. 3 seed Yellow Jackets to a 74-64 win over No. 6 Ashland in a G-MAC Quarterfinal contest at the Callan Athletic Center.
Cedarville, 20-11, advances to play at No. 2 Walsh in Friday's first semifinal at 5:00 p.m. EST in North Canton, Ohio.
Trailing by three points at halftime, the Jackets picked up their offense in the second half and outscored the Eagles 41-28.
CU shot 54 percent over the final 20 minutes and knocked down 6-of-12 triples.
Maughmer, who netted 18 of his points in the second period, hit a jumper to give the home team the lead for good, 42-41, with 16:04 left.
The game remained tight until
Chris Rogers and Maughmer hit back-to-back threes for a 68-58 spread at the 4:13 mark.
Rogers scored all 11 of his points in the second half.
Jacob Drees totaled 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
STINGER NOTES:
- Cedarville beat the Eagles three times this season including twice at home in the last five days.
- The Jackets committed just three turnovers and forced ten.
- The hosts, who are tied for No. 1 in the country in threes made per game (12.2), made 12-of-32.
- There were eight lead changes and six tie scores.
- Friday's other semifinal pits No. 8 Tiffin against No. 4 Thomas More at 7:00 p.m.
- Saturday's championship game in North Canton, Ohio will tip off at 3:00 p.m. EST.
