VIERA, Fla. - Illinois Springfield scored five runs in the seventh inning to spoil Cedarville's bid for a sweep on the final day of the Space Coast Spring Games.
The Prairie Stars prevailed by a 9-6 count after the Lady Jackets had edged Davenport, 2-1, in eight innings in the morning game.
UIS scored its five runs after the first batter was retired in the top of the seventh.
CU had taken a 6-4 lead in the fifth on an RBI single by
Casey Bertke and a two-run triple off the bat of
Camryn Taktak.
Dana Bertke and
Kaley Clark had two apiece with
Lexi Parsons scoring two runs.
Against Davenport, Parsons singled over the center fielder's head in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Clark with the winning run.
Winning pitcher
Casey Bertke struck out seven and joined Parsons with two hits apiece.
