Catanzarite scores twice as Jackets battle to road tie

OWENSBORO, Ky. — No. 8 Cedarville played to a 3–3 draw at Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday afternoon at Steele Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets, 10-0-6 overall and 8-0-4 G-MAC, led by two goals twice but settled for a point in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

Cedarville struck early when Christian Nardelli found the back of the net in the 15th minute to give the Jackets a 1–0 lead.

After the break, Michael Catanzarite doubled the advantage just over two minutes into the second half, assisted by Nardelli and Matthew Weller.

Kentucky Wesleyan responded with a quick goal before Catanzarite tallied again in the 62nd minute off passes from Kirk Wilson and Eddie Merck to make it 3–1. The hosts, however, rallied with goals in the 63rd and 75th minutes to even the score.

Each side managed with the Yellow Jackets placing six on target compared to four for KWC. Eben Dewhurst recorded one save in goal for Cedarville.

Quotable: Head Coach Brett Faro
"Kentucky Wesleyan is a good team that showed a lot of resilience today. I thought we executed what we wanted to do for a large portion of the game today but made too many mistakes in spaces and moments that we knew would be dangerous. They made us pay for those. I'm proud of the fight in this group and I am confident they will bounce back and be ready to battle a tough Ashland team on Saturday."

Five Facts:
  • Cedarville remains unbeaten at 10–0–6 overall.
  • Catanzarite recorded his 9th and 10th goals of the season.
  • Nardelli finished with a goal and an assist.
  • The Yellow Jackets are ranked No. 8 nationally in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II poll.
  • Cedarville has two regular-season matches remaining before postseason play.
The Jackets play their final regular season road game on Saturday at Ashland.
