Cedarville overwhelms Wright State Lake in home opener

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets began its home slate in style with a commanding 101–53 win over Wright State Lake.

Cedarville shot a blistering 61 percent from the field and never trailed, improving to 1–2 on the season.

The hosts raced to a 53–15 halftime lead behind a suffocating defensive effort that forced 10 first-half turnovers and limited the Lakers to 17 percent shooting.

The hosts continued to roll after the break, extending the margin to as many as 50 points late in the second half.

Freshman Jonathan Whiteside led four players in double figures with 16 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting performance and added seven rebounds.

Curtis Blair III scored 15 points, Mikail Harmison added 12, and Anthony Ruffolo chipped in 10.

Quotable: Head Coach Rob Jones
"We wanted to be able to play as many guys as we could to get them exposure. We have a lot of new guys, a lot of new faces, and being the first home game you want everybody to experience that atmosphere not only when they're on the bench, but when they're on the court. It was great to get a lot of guys into the action.

"We're inexperienced in a lot of ways so there are growth moments every single day. Having an opportunity to play with the lights on and to play against another team, I thought our energy was good, we were really unselfish, and we shared the basketball really well. We've just got to continue to grow at it. I don't think we're even close to where we're going to be at the end of the season and I'm excited about that. We've got a lot of work to do, but we have a terrific group of young men to do it."

Stinger Notes:
  • Will Gibson contributed six points, seven rebounds, and nine assists.
  • All 12 players in uniform played, scored least two points, and grabbed at least two rebounds.
  • Cedarville dominated the glass, 51-24, and dished out 26 assists.
  • The Yellow Jackets' bench scored 58 of the team's 101 points.
  • It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
