Lady Jackets beat Ashland to advance at G-MAC

CHAMPIONSHIP INFO

AKRON, Ohio - No. 7 seed Cedarville moved on in the G-MAC Softball Championship with a 4-2 win over No. 6 Ashland at Firestone Stadium.

CU will play at 12:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday against the loser of the morning contest between No. 5 Ohio Dominican and No. 1 Tiffin.

The Jackets took early control against Ashland when All-G-MAC infielder Emilie Fout smoked a three-run double in the first inning.

The other run came when All-G-MAC freshman Ella Leonard drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth.

Rookie pitcher Maya Merrill tossed her second complete game of the day with four strikeouts.

All-G-MAC First Team outfielder Mackenzie Lashuay had two hits including a double and scored twice. Brynley Rung added a double.

The Lady Jackets opened the tournament with a 3-2 setback to No. 2 Hillsdale.

The Chargers built a 3-0 lead through four innings. Caitlin Colley got CU back in it by pounding a two-run homer in the sixth. She had two of the team's five hits.
