CEDARVILLE, Ohio - United Soccer Coaches Division II No. 15 Cedarville played to a 1-1 draw with visiting Trevecca Nazarene.
Â
The hosts struck first just before halftime when freshman
Christian Nardelli netted his first collegiate goal in the 44th minute.
Eddie Merck and
Amari Everage combined on the buildup, with Merck's header setting up Nardelli inside six yards for the finish.
Â
Cedarville held the lead until the 89th minute when Trevecca capitalized on a penalty kick to equalize.
Â
Despite several second-half chances, including three shots from
Michael Catanzarite, the Jackets could not reclaim the advantage.
Â
Goalkeeper
Jack Gabler made one save in the second half while the Cedarville defense limited the Trojans to just two shots on frame.
Â
Quotable: Head Coach Brett Faro
"Any game against Trevecca is always a challenge because they do some things that make it difficult. It was good to get ahead and we knew it was going to be important going into the second half to find a second one. I thought we created the opportunities to do that and we just couldn't find the back of the net. You let a team hang around that long weird stuff can happen. It's a funny game like that. We just need to be more composed and learn from it."
