Cedarville explodes in second half to down Arrows

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville used a dominant second half to earn a 6-0 Great Midwest Athletic Conference victory over Ursuline on Thursday evening at Yellow Jacket Field.

Katie Ulmer opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a left-footed strike from the top of the box, giving the Lady Jackets a 1–0 lead at halftime.

The Jackets erupted for five goals in the second half. Seren Johnson doubled the advantage in the 53rd minute before Evania McCandless finished a cross just four minutes later. Audrey Stanley, Harriet Sandager, and Ella Webb each added tallies as Cedarville pulled away.

The Lady Jackets outshot Ursuline 27-0, forcing the visiting goalkeeper into six saves. Cedarville's defense secured its third straight shutout, with goalkeepers Kaelan Swallow and Lila Painter combining for the clean sheet.

Quotable: Head Coach Jonathan Meade

"I'm super impressed with the intensity level from the top of the roster to the bottom of our roster. It was really amazing how the next person came in and there was never a letdown.

Quotable: Junior #2 Katie Ulmer

"We wanted to come out with intensity and that's what we did. We were focusing on scoring in the first 15 minutes, and every game and our team is working really hard and I was able to get the shot off.
Having a goal early definitely helps because it still feels like it's 0-0 going into the rest of the game. That allowed us to have energy throughout the game but also allowed us to have that edge on them for the rest of the game."

Five Facts
  • Ulmer's goal was her third of the season.
  • Johnson, Sandager, and Webb each scored their first goal of the year.
  • Sandager also added an assist, finishing with a three-point performance.
  • Cedarville has won three straight G-MAC matches to open league play.
  • The Lady Jackets have outscored opponents 9-0 during their current winning streak.
Cedarville improves to 5-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the G-MAC. The Lady Jackets return to action on Saturday at Malone.
