Third quarter run rallies KWC over Cedarville

Panthers turn game around with 20 straight points

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Kentucky Wesleyan reversed course early in the third quarter en route to a 74-67 G-MAC victory over the Lady Jackets at Jones Gym.

Cedarville led for the majority of the first half. The visitors took a 28-26 halftime margin and quickly expanded it to 35-26 after the break.

However, the Panthers exploded for 20 consecutive points in less than four minutes and took over by outscoring CU 29-12 in the period.

KWC inflated the difference to 74-51 with 3:15 remaining and the Jackets finished the contest with 16 unanswered points to account for the final.

Emma Kay Martin scored 13 points for Cedarville, 8-10 overall and 3-7, who has dropped four straight.

Jenna Sandel netted a career-high 12 points and Ella Sellars added 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Quotable: Head Coach Addy Miller
"We built a nine-point lead early in the third quarter, then took our foot off the gas. We lost our discipline and got careless with the ball, committing turnovers on several straight possessions. That stretch sparked a 20–0 run for them, and the game was ultimately decided in those two-to-three minutes where we didn't stay disciplined."

Five Facts:
  • Sellars was 8-for-8 at the stripe and has converted her last 17 charity tosses in a row.
  • The Jackets .842 free throw percentage (16-for-19) was their second-best of the season (.889 at Eckerd)
  • Regan Hubert had nine points while Harmony Laker and Sarah Loughry scored eight apiece.
  • Each team scored 40 points in the paint.
  • Kentucky Wesleyan leads the all-time series, 17-11, which started during the 2013-14 season.
