2011 Lady Jacket Softball Blog

May 16, 2011

It's finally over. The Lady Jackets had a great softball season and are looking forward to next year. We finished up this last week at NCCAA Nationals in Virginia. From Camp Bethel to a Chinese fire drill around the bus, it was a really fun time.

Many players from the team were recognized for their accomplishments. We had six girls named All-Conference, one First Team All-American and one Second Team All-American. It was a great year and we will really miss all of those who aren't returning.

On behalf of the entire team, I would like to thank everybody who contributed to our season. Including those who followed and supported our team. Thank you!

Be back in the fall!!

May 9, 2011

Only one week left of softball. We lost the first two games of the American Mideast Conference Tournament and had to come home early. Everybody was extremely busy after arriving back to school; with finals and moving. We stayed in Printy Dorm for two days and we are now packing up to go to Virginia.

It's finally sunny out, something we are not used to. Everybody is excited to play in the sun! We are seeded third in the NCCAA National Tournament and start playing on Thursday night.

Well, thanks for following our team and wish us well as we head off to Virginia on Tuesday afternoon!

May 2, 2011

Yay!! We won the NCCAA Regional Tournament hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University. This means we get to continue playing in the NCCAA National Tournament that will be held in Virginia after finals week. As exciting as it is to continue playing, this also means we all get to pack up our stuff and move to Printy, and eat at Chuck’s for a little while longer. We are all excited about that.

This upcoming week is also the AMC tournament. The schedule is riding on our games against Malone, which are now scheduled for today (Monday).

It is going to be a busy next couple of weeks, you can keep up with everything that is going on, on the softball website.

April 25, 2011

There is so much rain!!! We haven't played for awhile, it does look like we might get in a couple of games on Monday, though.

Due to softball we had to stay around campus for Easter. The Ludlow's invited those who don't live close enough to go home over to their house for an egg hunt.

With only two weeks left in the semester everybody is starting to get busy and we have four league games left. Hopefully we will get two of those in on Monday.

Don't forget, you can follow the last few games on the internet!

April 18, 2011

We are hoping to get all of the games in this week, looking at the forecast, that seems very unlikely. Monday's game is a make up game against Ursuline. Followed by games against Salem International Tuesday and Malone Friday.

We  traveled to Pittsburgh last Friday planning to stay overnight and play again on Saturday. On the way there it was decided that we would not play Saturday due to weather so we came back Friday night. We now have to make a return trip. Besides that, there isn't much that happened this past week.

All games this week are at home (except Saturday), you can follow the home games via live stats and even listen to Friday’s games with Malone on the softball website!

April 11, 2011

We only played four of the six scheduled games this past week due to weather.

Ursuline drove from Cleveland, only to have the games cancelled. It did make for an interesting day though. We put the tarp on the field in record time in the middle of warmups. Then the rain hit, so we took the Ursuline team to the Hive to fellowship during lunch. After a couple of hours of waiting, the games were cancelled.

Monday's home games against Urbana have also been postponed until Tuesday at 3:30 due to the rain. The rest of the week we will be on the road, playing in North Canton, Ohio on Wednesday, followed by games in Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday.

On a better note, the outfield fence is half way done! Looks like it might be finished before the end of the season!

April 4, 2011

We finished last week 5-1. The only loss was against Marian on Thursday. The week started with two wins against Ohio Valley. We then won two close games against Urbana, followed by an 8-7 victory over Marian as well as a loss. Conference games that were scheduled for Saturday against Walsh were rescheduled due to weather.

The JV also had four games this week and finished 1-3.

It’s supposed to be a little warmer this week and all of our games are at home (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday), so come out and support the softball team!

March 28, 2011

Games Tuesday against Concordia and Thursday against Shawnee State were both cancelled this past week due to weather. We made up the games against Concordia Friday; splitting the double header with them. We then dropped both games on Saturday to Notre Dame.  (I should also mention that during these games both Kelsey Wilson and Kelsey Warrington had over the fence homeruns!) Despite the losses, and freezing weather Saturday, it was nice to play on our home field. A temporary snow fence has been put up until the real thing is finished.

This next week will again be a busy week for the softball team. It starts Monday with a double header at Ohio Valley, followed by make up games Tuesday at Urbana. We again get to play on our home field Thursday versus Marian then will finish the week by traveling to Walsh on Saturday.

The JV team also started playing this past week, they won one, lost one. Their next games are scheduled for Monday at home.

March 21, 2011

Last week was a busy week for the team, but we played well! A little recap: Tuesday games against Urbana were rescheduled due to weather. We then swept Grace in a double header Thursday night. On Friday, we played three games in the Cedarville Classic Tournament, winning all three. We continued tournament play Saturday. Our close win (4-3) over Indiana Weslyan University put us in first place in the tournament. We then played in the championship game against the second seeded team, which happened to be Indiana Wesleyan. We lost 6-4, with bases loaded. It was a tough loss, but none the less, we finished the week with a 6-1 record.

We continue to stay busy this week with what was supposed to be six games. Tuesday's games against Concordia were cancelled due to weather. We will travel to Shawnee State Thursday for a double header, followed by two games Saturday on our field! (We are so excited to play at home, fence or no fence!)

Two of our players have earned special recognition this week. Kayla Thornsberry has been named the AMC Pitcher of the Week. While Kelsey Wilson was named AMC Offensive Player of the Week as well as the Cedarville Subway Athlete of the Week.

That's all for now! Visit the softball page for more information.

March 14, 2011

We returned from Florida Saturday night after going 6-8 in our tournament. We started off strong then dropped the last four games.

After a three day break, we resume playing Tuesday when we travel to Urbana University for a non-conference double header. We then have another double header Thursday versus Grace College, scheduled for home, however the field isn't quite ready. We finish the week with a two-day tournament that was also scheduled to be played at Cedarville but has also been moved to Dayton at the Action Sports Center.

Sorry this is short again! But I have some studying to do and classes to attend. If you want to know more, look us up on the CU athletic web page!

March 7, 2011

The softball team is enjoying the warm weather in Florida while playing ball. We are half way done with the trip with a 4-3 record. All of our pitchers have come out strong and ready to go. The defense has been solid and the entire line up has been producing hits, especially the top of the line up.

With eight more games, we are ready to come out on top again.

February 28, 2011

The Lady Jacket softball team is ready to start the 2011 season. After practicing inside all winter, everybody is excited to hit the field. We start the season off this Saturday, March 5th, with a double header in Orlando.

While in Florida, we will play fifteen games. Upon returning to Ohio, our season will be in full motion (weather permitting)!

Although the team is young, it is loaded with talent and looks like it is going to be a good season!

Stay tuned for more details!

Meghan Creech, a sophomore catcher from Kersey, Colo., is back for her second season with the Lady Jackets. The chemistry major started all 50 games as a rookie and ranked third on the team with 10 doubles.
