This past Monday & Tuesday we had our home tournament (31st Annual Cedarville Invitational) at Beavercreek Golf Club and Country Club of the North.  It was Kampen all over again with winds approaching the speed of light.  Our first round was at the beaver.  It was pretty chilly throughout the day but the sun was out so it took the edge off.  The wind was driving scores up and temperatures low and causing mayhem out on the course.

After the first round we were in second place.  The Freshman was right in the hunt after day one just two shots off the lead.  The next day brought us to CCN where the winds weren’t quite as bad but not by too much.  We ended up coming in second place overall and The Freshman WON THE TOURNAMENT!!!

Congratulations to Jacob Forsythe!! Finishing off the greatest freshman year in Cedarville golf history with his first win!

April 16, 2012

Ah, a week off the tough life of a touring college golf team brings out the true sloth in every golfer. We don’t have a tourney this week, which is nice after the blitzkrieg Kampen had on our morale.

Thirty mph winds with gusts in the 40’s for 36 straight holes over two days will take a toll on you, especially at a course that is already difficult without hurricanes. We all struggled our way around the course, with some of us taking some double digit numbersssss… yikes. However, I think we still had a great time as usual! Made a good DQ run, ate lots of pizza, heard some great jokes, and tried my best to graciously help out a teammates horrifyingly ailing, devastatingly unbearably potent foot odor.

Lots of guys, such as myself, deal with smelly feet. However most of those guys have taken, what I like to call, action steps to deal with the issue, such as Gold Bond foot powder like I use. So I, in my most loving way, with no hilariously mocking jokes about how his feet were peeling the paint off the walls and making people gag, directed him toward my powder to help penetrate the deep seeded, festering, sour stench of said feet. That was pretty much the highlight of our evening!

This week we are in for some tough preparation for the CU Invitational that commences next Monday at Beavercreek CC. The stage is set for another Jackets victory at our home tournament. I sincerely hope to see you out on the course supporting our team!

I’m Brigham Michaud, and that’s all from me. Goodnight, and have a pleasant tomorrow.

April 9, 2012

Well here we are at the Brick Boilermaker’s Kampen course in Indiana. Today was the first day of competition and brought some high winds and even higher scores. “The Freshman” is leading the way with a brilliantly played 76, great work out there champ. The rest of us stumbled into the finish line with me at 79, teejay 87, and the zig zag coming in at 90.

The wind was terrorizing us today with gusts in the upper thousands of miles per hour. But we’re still alive and kickin!  We’ll see if we can’t get something going Tuesday morning out there and maybe the wind will blow us in the direction of victory. Speaking of victory… atta boy bubba!! What a true joy it was to see a fellow brother in Christ pulling it out at Augusta on Sunday!

Sorry for the seriousness in the blog this week, I’m typing fast because we’re off to DQ in a few minutes!

I’m Brigham Michaud and that’s all from me. Have a good night and a pleasant tomorrow.

April 2, 2012

Well this week we leave on Saturday morning to head up to Crooked Stick Country Club, where THE Tony Pancake provides us with the wonderful experience of the stick. It’s also Masters week this whole week and as golfers it’s quite an exciting time…will Tiger pull it off after his win at Bay Hill? Will the young Rory Mcilroy rise to his calling as the number one player in the world and avenge his loss from last year? So many questions…so much drama…one jacket.

We will be watching the drama unfold at the household of the Pancakes on Saturday and Sunday. Then Monday will bring us to the Kampen course at Purdue University, arguably the greatest test of golf in our sport. Last year we experienced colossally high winds that resulted in some pretty devastatingly high scores. Hopefully the weather will follow the trend of recent weeks for our tournament and provide sunny rays and drastic tan lines.

I’ll be back next Monday evening with the report from Kampen and hopefully some classic stories and hilarious jokes!

I’m Brigham Michaud and that’s all from me. Goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow.

March 28, 2012

This past Monday and Tuesday we were down in Nashville for a tournament. The weather was beautiful and sunny. Dan and Erin Atkeson were kind enough to open their home to our team and allow us to hang out and watch so much modern family. Our days were spent on the course honing our fine-tuned games while evenings consisted of the entire first season of mo fam being watched by most of the team, two unnamed biology majors were unable to peel their faces away from the books so they didn’t have as much fun as the rest of us!

Our performance at the tournament was a little shaky. I know we didn’t play our best but we had a great time with each other. We placed 9th out of 14 teams.

April 9-10 will bring us to the beautiful, yet vicious Kampen, the home course of Purdue University. It’s long, it’s hard, and a true test of every aspect of your game. I will be keeping you abreast to our fairing in the tournament after Easter break.

That’s all for now, may the force be with you.

March 21, 2012

Here we are back again in full bloom of blogging season, and I’m back in action to keep the golfers most vociferous followers fully abreast to our developments.

Spring Break 2012 brought us back to Naples, FL and the Penner’s hot tub. We missed Chris Bennington, his unmatchable humor, and his plethora of classic jokes. But we managed and oh what a week it was my friends. Brilliantly sunny skies, beautifully manicured golf courses, and some great jokes amongst some great pals....we weren’t just dreaming of para-para-paradise but we were living in para-para-paradise oh oh oh oh oh oh oh-oh-oh (Coldplay).

On a more serious note, we had a great opportunity to speak at and talk with Dr. Dixon’s weekly men’s fellowship meeting that he has at his community in Naples. That was a lot of fun for us, except the waking up at 6 a.m. part. We played some great courses and had perfect weather the entire week, all in all I’d say we had a pretty great spring break.

This past week we headed back to Portsmouth, Ohio, to defend our title. We had a great time, as always, at the Elks Country Club. We successfully defended our title under the second day headship of interim coach CB, wonderful work up there Chris great to have you on board. We also had three individuals make the top five, Jacob Nafziger, Jacob Forsythe, and myself… great work guys.

Next we will be heading down to Nashville on Saturday for our next tournament. I will be keeping you informed to our showing this coming Monday after our first round. And that’s all from me, good night and have a pleasant tomorrow.

October 31, 2011

With the fall season officially concluded we move on to great things with our new found free time in the afternoons. Maybe a nap or two, or three, or four, or five, or six, the list goes on. What a fall it’s been, from the cold and windy rains of Cumberland Trail to the crashing waves of the beach at Panama City we have enjoyed every moment. We concluded our NCCAA tournament with a 10th place finish. We played well down there so it was a good ending to a fun-filled season of laughs and Dairy Queen. I shall pick back up with the blogs when the spring season starts. But be praying that we get to head back down to Naples for Spring Break at the end of February.

That’s all for now, you heard it here first people, have a great winter and a happy tomorrow!

October 24, 2011

Let me describe a scene to you and tell me if it’s not perfect. Sitting on the couch in our condo overlooking the ocean from six stories aloft with the wonderfully gentle lapping shores caressing our ears, it’s 70 degrees outside so we can open the sliding door out onto our porch to allow a gentle breeze in, Monday Night Football on the TV, a couple of guys just sitting around having some laughs and sharing some grins. Is that perfection? Is that what the Cedarville golf team is experiencing right now? Is this the greatest golf trip ever? Are you reading this and foaming at the mouth? Those are all rhetorical questions where the answer is quite obviously a yes. The Majestic Towers has delivered yet another fun- filled Florida golf trip here at the beaches of Panama City.

We departed school at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning and arrived in Panama City on Saturday afternoon. We headed over to the course on Saturday to practice a little bit and had some fun as a team just yuckin’ it up on the practice green. We spent some time in the hot tub to rest our sore bodies from the strenuous day of travel. Sunday morning we had a little worship service with some of the teams from the tournament. After that we headed to the beach for awhile to toss the old piggy skin around, we had so much fun obviously how could you not. Then we left for the course to play a practice round. The course was looking difficult as always down here, but in great shape and just waiting to rear its ugly head and dish out some doubs and trips to its unsuspecting victims.

Monday was the first day of the tournament. We shot 308 as a team which was good for us down here! We definitely left some shots out there and are itchin’ to get back some of them on Tuesday. We are in 7th place right now and need to be Top 12 to make the cut after Tuesday’s round. Scores from today were: Forsythe 73 (fantastic work first time out there champ!), Michaud 75, Zinger 80, Chris 80, and by request I’m not posting the Trojans’ score haha he must have played pretty well right!

Well that’s all I got for now my compadres, TTFN ta ta for now!

October 19, 2011

This week brought us just to our backyard for the Yellow Jacket Invitational. We won the event with a decisive 292 on the second day. The first day brought difficult conditions and high scores. It was windy and cold, and people were getting owned by the conditions. I shot a 78, Forsythe 79, Ojala 79, Nafzinger 80, and Chris 82.

The second day was a much better day for scoring, the tees were moved up and the wind was a mere memory of the past! Chris and I were once again crackin’ the whip of the senior sleigh with me at 69 and him at 71, great rounds to the both of us! Forsythe followed with a 75, wonderful work Jacob…..The Trojan and Zinger brought up the rear with some smooth 77’s ! This all brought us to our first victory of the season! I took the medalist honors for individuals, and Chris and Forsythe were 3rd and 5th… look at the CU golf team taking the tournament by storm!

Wonderful work this week and now we move on to PCB - here we come babyyyyy!! Saturday morning we shall find ourselves at the airport runnin’ route to the warm lapping shores of the Gulf Coast, oh what fun in the sun it will be my friends! We have a great little group of five going, Brigham and Chris will be in control of the sleigh as always, Forsythe is our lone ranger freshy, and the Trojan and Zig Zag will be taggin’ along also.

It’s going to be a great time of laughs and humor with some golf thrown in there too! I’ll keep you posted while we’re down there on the lapping shores of the coast of gulf.

Sigue sediento, amigo mío!

October 10, 2011

Well here we are in St. Louie at another golf tournament, what a crazy schedule us golfers have always on the road. The trip here was quite an adventure, it took us about six hours to get here and we encountered some nutty circumstances en route. Jacob Nafziger and Chris can’t seem to stop fighting about the DUMBEST stuff, it’s hilarious and we all love to laugh at them and gang up on Zig for his awful jokes. Let me explain their relationship further….Jacob Nafziger has some of the worst humor we have heard to date, his jokes are not funny and his delivery is even worse. Chris loves to hate on his jokes and just his life in general, it’s hilarious because it’s all done in love but they fight continuously and we all laugh hahaha - so that was pretty much our entertainment for the drive down.

We made it safe and sound to the Drury Inn where we are residing for a few evenings. We went to Ruby Tuesday the first night we got here, that was fun and yummy. Then later into twilight we all went to DQ, we drove there, but it turned out it was almost right across the street haha classic golf team driving everywhere, as if we play such a strenuous sport - am I right or am I right - I think I’m right!

Day two brought a classic church service with some classic Southern Baptists, such nice people we won’t forget you soon Calvary Baptist. Thanks For The Memories (Fallout Boy, Infinity on High, 2007). We then continued to Jimmy John’s for some righteously made subs and sodas, thanks Jimmy. We played a practice round in the afternoon which brought some more classic “Zig-Benny” moments and of course some good Trayton Oj comments!

Today was the first day of our tournament. We didn’t do so hot. It was a beautiful day and a fun time on the course as always, but it was a grinder for everyone.  Chris and I guided the sleigh in with me a 76 and Chris a 78, Trayton and Zig came in with a pair of  81’s, and Forsythe shot 88. The course is a pretty tough one but I know we can all do better than that! Lets go get em tomorrow eh guys!

Well that’s all from my side of the world, I’m east bound and down!

Trayton Ojala quote of the week:

“I like to have I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter on my toast in the morning because I like to be incredulous, because that way when somebody asks me how my breakfast was I can say, unbelievable” (Dimitri Martin)

October 3, 2011

We didn’t have a golf tournament this week again so there’s not much to report from the golf team. Saturday morning we’re leaving for St. Louie for a tournament, I can’t wait! We’ll return on Tuesday night just in time to head out for fall break on Wednesday.

It’s been pretty chilly this week getting down into the 30’s at night a couple times, but it’s supposed to be a little nicer this week which will make practice a little easier.

In lighter news, we made it to Florida for nationals!!!!!!!!! PCB here we come baby!

Well, that’s all I have for you this week.....until next time stay classy Cedarville!

September 26, 2011

Another week has come and gone and another sunset has brought the dawn. As always the weekend has brought the Monday blues, but hopefully this blog will bring you some good news!!

The long days of 27 holes brought some up and down play throughout the rounds at our tournament this past week. We had a couple good scores as a team but not as good as we would have hoped for seeing that the course wasn’t too difficult. We ended up placing 9th out of 16 teams. I think we were all a little disappointed with our individual scores this week but I know we still had a great time on the road!

This week started our Bible study, which I promised an update on last week! This year we’re in the book of I Timothy, and each week somebody is assigned to lead the team in a discussion on a chapter. That person will send out questions or a little diddy to get us thinking about the chapter and what we can get from it. This way everybody knows what we’re talking about and can read and prepare ahead of time so we can all have thoughts and contribute to the discussion. So this week was the first chapter of I Timothy, I led the discussion, and it went really well for the first week. I think everybody liked the format and we had a great conversation. Next week we’ll be in chapter 2 and Zigga is leading us, looking forward to what you have in store for us champ!

We have a couple weeks off before our next tournament so we’ll be working hard to improve our scores between now and then!

I must apologize to my readers for the lack of humor in this blog, I’m embarrassed. In my haste to pen my work I sacrificed some whit and for that I truly am sorry…. next week I’ll put some more time into it and give you something to scream about. As always I hope my avid readers have a wonderful afternoon and a happy Monday!

Quote of the week:

Treighton: "I hit one half off the toe, one half off the heel, and one half off the top."

Troy: "That’s three halves."

Treighton: "I know, but putting is the key to my success."

September 19, 2011

Well ODU brought some classic stories, as always, for us last week. Jacob’s limb was cut down this year so we didn’t get to experience that on the 16th hole but we still managed to bring in some high scores and good stories. The weather was pretty rough for the first tournament of the year, usually you don’t expect it to be 40 degrees and rainy on Sept. 15th. We teed off at 8 a.m. shotgun start and we were all wearing rain gear for the first 18 because even if it wasn’t raining it was not warm. It was a long day out there playing 36 holes, but we used carts this year to keep things moving so we would get done before dark, what a treat!

Congratulations are in order for our freshman though because he placed third at the tournament shooting 79 the first round and 71 the second, wonderful performance Jacob, compelling and rich. He totally defied the classic freshman routine at ODU; usually the freshmen go there and just shoot some classic high 80’s, but no no no not this guy, not Jacob. His performed with the strength of a Spartan off the tee and the touch of an angel around the greens while he meandered his way around the Trail with brilliant courage, spat in the face of odds, and almost won it but just barely missed out on the playoff by a mere two strokes. What a first week! The rest of us however didn’t fare so well out there in the rough conditions, but let’s keep the focus on Jacob shall we and suffice it to say we took a lot of scores in the 80’s….

We’re in West Lafayette, OH for our tournament this week. Only five of us get to go to this one so we’re missing Chris and Stonk :(. The tournament is 54 holes, so we’re playing 27 holes on Monday and 27 on Tuesday. The course actually has 27 different holes, weird. We played a practice round Sunday but only on the first 18 holes and just walked around the third nine to see what it looked like, it’s a pretty easy setup. It’s short, open, and there isn’t a whole lot of trouble, which means it’s feeding time for the meat stick. It’ll be a fun course because there are a lot of birdie opportunities if you can get the putter going. I’ll let all you avid blog readers know how it goes next week!

It’s 6 a.m. right now as I’m writing this so I don’t feel like writing anymore, but we’re starting our Bible study this week and I’ll let you know what’s going on with that in the next blog post, I need to keep you reading somehow right!?. We’re pumped for it this year because it’s going to be a little different than years past and hopefully more beneficial.

I hope my readers have a wonderful day!

September 12, 2011

This new golf season came with a new dynamic this year, we have a new coach and freshman. Coach Bowen will definitely be missed this year on the team but we’re looking forward to see how Coach Poelzer will do and what he can bring to the team. We’re also going to be missing the four seniors that left us last year; they were a wonderful asset to our team chemistry. So Chris and I have taken the reigns of the senior sleigh as we embark on a journey of great competition, great laughs, and great comradery in anticipation of our new golf season.

Since our first match wasn’t until this coming Thursday at Ohio Dominican, we have had plenty of time to grow as a team. The past two weeks we've had three qualifiers, and as a whole we can see that a lot of improvements need to be made. But at the same time we all had rounds where we saw our teams’ potential and that we have opportunities to all go low this fall.

The great thing about our first tournament is that everybody will be playing and that will give everyone on the team an opportunity to show how we perform on the same course in the same conditions, which will give us a general idea of how the fall season will pan out as we prepare for NCCAA's in Florida. However, this year we have to qualify to play in NCCAA’s and it will be heavily weighted by our first two tournaments. We really need to play well early so we can go to Florida at the end of the fall. I know we will all be disappointed if we don’t make it because it’s so much fun to stay on the beach, play some golf, and just hang out in some warm air.

Overall, we are looking forward to our season kicking off this week and are hoping to bring home a dirty little trophy from ODU!
