This is my swan song. It’s been real my devoted readers. Sadly (but actually happily), this is my last post. Next year I will be handing over the blogging duties to our very own Luke Ingles. I have a couple of parting words before I retire. First, don’t do drugs. Second, never wear a button-up, forest green, short-sleeved shirt (that was specifically for you, Luke). Lastly, love the Lord with all your heart. Obviously these are not in any particular order, but I’m confident you can figure out the correct order.
Alabama was fun. We didn’t accomplish what we wanted but that just motivates us more for next year. The scores did not reflect the entirety of the trip, because there was a lot of excellent tennis being played. This season has been a lot of fun. I would like to thank Coach Edlund and my teammates for a great year. I would also like to thank all of our fans for supporting us (mostly our parents but there are a few others).
There is one last order of business before I leave, and that is to interview Coach. Here we go.
JC: "What is your ideal date?"
Coach: "It would be with my wife of course, dancing in the dark, walking hand in hand in the park, and reminiscing."
JC: "Well said. If you could have anyone’s hair, whose hair would you have?"
Coach: "Give me a head with hair. Long beautiful hair. Shining, gleaming, streaming flaxen-waxen."
JC: "(Imagine Coach singing that) What is your dream job?"
Coach: "One that you can walk from your house to."
JC: "I like it, what is the most memorable tennis moment in your coaching career?"
Coach: "Beating the #23 team in the nation (Shout out to the 1999 team)."
There you have it. Bye forever.

Wow, wow, wow, what a wild week it has been. It has been a crazy week. This week was all about the team. We won as a team and lost as a team. I cannot begin to explain to you how great it has been to be a part of this team, and I thank God that He has allowed for all our paths to cross. We are all competitors and leave it all on the court, but at the end of the day we are there for each other.
It was a heck of a fight with Davis & Elkins this week, but hey the end result was Co-Champions of the G-MAC so that is pretty neat. I would love to re-enact the battle but it would not do it justice. If you take a gander at the scores you’ll see how close it was. Thanks to all the fans that made it out; there was an excellent atmosphere!
We are not done yet though! First, we have a home match this Saturday against Huntington at 1:00 p.m. Before that, the women’s team will (hopefully) be fighting for a G-MAC Championship. So come support us both! After that is Alabama…just kidding finals…but then Alabama (=NCCAA Championships)! If this post was not up to par, my apologies I am pooped from this week so this is all I could muster.
I guess I will interview myself because all I have left is Coach and I. Don’t worry, Coach will be questioned next week. Alright, here we go.
JC: "What is your ideal date?"
JC: "That’s a tough one. I haven’t had to think of any date ideas as it has been awhile. But I’m going to go with the scenario where we are already married. I would love to have a picnic somewhere in the very beautiful New Zealand and then spend the night in a hobbit hole.
JC: "If you could have anyone’s hair, whose hair would you have?"
JC: "Zayn had some pretty sweet hair before he chopped it off. Zayn is a former member of One Direction for all you older folk that have no clue who I’m talking about."
JC: "What is your dream job?"
JC: "Professional soccer player. Preferably on the U.S. National Team as well. If you need me Jurgen Klinsmann, I am available."

Ok, coming at you from the van. Oh yes the famous tennis van, currently traveling back from Mishawaka, Indiana. After a solid 9-0 victory against Bethel, coach took us out for some exquisite food at the Essenhaus! Exquisite was the only adjective I could think of that provided even a semi-accurate representation of the food. If one day you’re just strolling along and you come across a water tower with the printed word "Middlebury" placed upon it (Middlebury, Indiana)…You must be near the vicinity of Essenhaus! Highly recommend the buffet, my tummy is still satisfied and plump (that diction was for you Ryan) from our endeavor. Sorry, my mind and tummy are still focused on today, I should be talking about Thursday!
Thursday, as you might have seen by now, we took down Indiana Wesleyan! Seeing as how they had beaten us nine times in a row, this win felt very good. So good in fact, Ryan already started reminiscing the day it occurred, "hey remember that time we beat IWU" Ryan asks at Colonial Pizza following…you know…the time we beat IWU. Anyways, we were down 4-2 until the three fine gentlemen (Matt, Luke, and Ryan respectively) won their matches in a third set! Some quick trivia coming at you, the last time we beat IWU Matt’s dad was on the team in 1987.
Alright, I would love to continue to chat with y’all but this food has got me thinking nap time. However, before this occurs, we will end this post with an interview with the man, the myth, the Eric Baker everybody! I know this is the moment you’ve all been waiting for, so I am just going to explore the mind of Bake.
JC: "What is your ideal date?"
Eric: "Bengals game and I’m not going to elaborate further on that question."
JC: "There you have it ladies, now you know how to enthrall the Eric. If you could have anyone’s hair, whose hair would you have?"
David: "I want Mr. T’s hair but… I do want it- I- yeah I want Mr. T’s hair. I want to be a massive human."
JC: "Not the worst answer I have received (scroll up and you’ll know which one I’m talking about), what is your dream job?"
Eric: "How many times have we been over this JC! I want to own the Bengals and win an inordinate amount of Super Bowls."
JC: "With a ginger quarterback leading the way I approve, if you could be a part of any video game which would it be?"
Eric: (He became very excited at this point as ideas came flooding into his mind and simultaneously out of his mouth. This is the first coherent answer I received.) "I would be in Star Wars Battlefront 2. I would be a regular clone trooper and kill all of the Jedi and Sith with the exception of Darth Maul. That is how I would obtain my fame in the 501st."
Alright nap time.
April 12, 2016
Alright, y’all know what time it is? Is it A.) game time B.) summer time or C.) snack time? Had you guessed A, B, or C you would be wrong. The answer is D.) Tennis blog time. Or I guess it could be E.) C and D. You pick. Anyways, I will be updating you on our match last Friday, letting you know about future matches, and interviewing David Carter! Here we go.
On Friday, we played Salem International in Salem, West Virginia and in between the eight-hour round trip we stopped to play a little tennis. We came up with an 8-1 victory after a very interesting warm up. First of all, they have an unusual set up. They have three courts in one location, and about a quarter mile away there are another two courts. Anyways, we were limited to one court for warm up aaaaand eight people all wanted to hit (David was ok with not making it nine). So we played 4 v 4 dingles on one court. That is, you play 1 v 1 with the person across from you until there is one ball left than it turns to 4 v 4. It was an adventure to say the least. Quads would be a great addition to Wimbledon in my opinion. Maybe if you get to a match early enough we will let you experience it, which is a perfect segue into telling you about future matches.
We have three matches this week! The first match is on Tuesday against Walsh in Cedarville at 3:30 p.m. (my apologies for all the prepositions). This should be a great match, so fans would be stellar thanks. Next, we have a home match this Thursday against Indiana Wesleyan University at 3:30 p.m. This will also be a very competitive match! If you do not enjoy it, I will personally refund you for the price of admission (lol). Lastly, we play at Bethel in Mishawaka, Indiana on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. There you have it, see you there.
Today we have a special treat for you. We have my fellow sophomore DAVID CARTER graciously answering my questions. An absolutely fantastic man who loves God and loves people, I could not be happier to have him as my teammate for four years.
JC: "Alright David, what is your ideal date (that you will be taking Emily on)?"
David: "Ideal date is whatever one I’m on with Emily. She makes every date fun, amazing, and memorable. I love that girl."
JC: "Tears, beautifully done. If you could have anyone’s hair, whose hair would you have?"
David: "If I could have anyone’s hair, it would be David Beckham. That guy is a stud."
JC: "Agreed, what is your dream job?"
David: "Seriously, my dream job is to be the senior pastor of a loving congregation. All I want to do is enjoy God’s body of believers."
JC: "That’s awesome man! Last question, if you could have invented anything that has already been invented, what would you take credit for?"
David: "Ummm the wheel."
Yaaah I took a shot in the dark with that question. Oh well, thank you David. Excellent work.
See you all later.

I’ve pretty much exhausted all of the intros in my arsenal so I’m just going to go for it.
On Friday we took on West Liberty and lost 8-1 (well done #2 doubles on getting the W). However, this is very deceptive because we played a really tight match with them. Everyone had a chance on their court, but it just wasn’t our day. Also the wind was about 293 mph so that was fun. Thanks again to all the fans who came out; there was a great showing and atmosphere!
This week we have a packed schedule. Wednesday, we play at Bellarmine. This weekend we are taking a road trip to the Mountainous region of West Virginia. Friday we take on Salem International, and Saturday we play Davis & Elkins. Come on out, it will be a swell time.
Quick shout out to Nadine Hennesey, a missionary to Kosovo! She spoke in chapel today with a very inspiring testimony. It was so cool to hear from such a faithful servant of God. I would encourage anyone and everyone to learn more about her ministry! Also, she is Luke Ingle’s aunt!
Alright today we have Joel with us for our weekly interview! The handsome and talented Asian with enormous calves (and Ryan’s doubles partner)!
JC: "Alright Joel, what is your ideal date (that you will be taking Lois on)?"
Joel: "My ideal date with Lois would be getting an early dinner at a French restaurant, then seeing the play Wicked. After the play, we’d get dessert and lie under the stars and talk the rest of the night away."
JC: "That’s precious. If you could have anyone’s hair, whose hair would you have?"
Joel: "If I could have anyone’s hair, it would be Jon Class’ hair. The fiery red swoop, it doesn’t get better than that, literal fire on your head!"
JC: "Well I’m blushing now J What is your dream job?"
Joel: "My dream job would be professional climber, yah know cause climbing is awesome -come climbing with me JC."
JC: "I’ll think about it (a classy no). Last question, if you could have dinner with any person ever who would it be?"
Joel: "If I could have dinner with any person ever, it would be my uncle Ernie. He has loads of stories from being a missionary and I always enjoy hearing what God has been doing in his life and his kids’ lives as well."
Thank yah Joel. We’re outta here.
March 29, 2016
Alright everyone, today we have a Shakira-inspired blog post. And by that I just mean I am currently listening to Shakira. Anyways, there were a few developments this past Easter week (Happy Easter! He is Risen!). I will share them, and then Ryan Shomo has blessed us with some answers to my questions. He is a very talented individual and very handsome and Joel’s doubles partner.
On Friday we had a match against Salem International. This year is their first year as a program so they fielded a team of all freshmen. They are definitely lacking in experience but not in talent, so I’m sure we will have good matches for years to come. Thanks to all the fans that made it out in spite of the cold weather. Shout out to Dr. White, Rachel, and Samuel for bringing us hand warmers!
Secondly, I want to congratulate John and Ella Filcik! They got married on Saturday! Yay!!! It was a lovely ceremony and reception. Keeping the waterworks at bay was a big struggle. Two absolutely incredible human beings, I am certain God will use them in a great way.
Interview time.
JC: "Alright Ryan, what is your ideal date (that you will be taking Hannah on)?"
Ryan: "Ideal date would be setting up a nice table for two out in nature somewhere, preferably by a beautiful water source and just before sunset. Then being caught up in conversation for the rest of the evening over a nice bottle of sparking grape juice."
JC: "Good answer (*clapping hands* family feud style). If you could have anyone’s hair, whose hair would you have?"
Ryan: "Rafa’s hair from Wimbledon 2008."
JC: "Big Rafa fan. What is your dream job?"
Ryan: "Dream job would be playing professional soccer."
JC: "Ditto! Which state is the best and why?"
Ryan: "Iowa is undoubtedly the best state because of the people. You won’t find nicer people anywhere in the world".
Thank you very much for your time Ryan. All done bye.
March 22, 2016
Hello and thank you for taking two minutes out of your day to read this post! This will be a short one as I have only one match to report on. But we will also have our weekly interview! This week our very own talented (#1 singles), intelligent (Chemistry/Pre-med major *cough* *cough* he copied me), and handsome (he has a girlfriend) Mr. Matt Brumbaugh joined me over some coffee at Rinnova. Just kidding, I texted him the questions and he responded. It worked just as well.
Our match against Tiffin last Thursday (St. Patrick's Day) was very competitive. We expected a very strong team and that is what we got. Ryan and Joel got us started in the win column by rallying back from a 4-1 deficit to win 9-8 (7-3)! #1 and #3 doubles also had close matches but couldn’t quite pull it out. In singles, the two points came from David who won handily and Matt who won it in three! Again, I want to thank all the fans. You guys are a big part of every match, so thank you thank you thank you.
Alright, let’s see what you got Matt. (I don’t know how to introduce an interview so that is what I’m going with)
JC: "What is your ideal date (that you will be taking Amanda on)?"
Matt: "My ideal date would be get dressed up super, super fancy and go to some ridiculously expensive restaurant and maybe the opera or something."
JC: "If you could have anyone’s hair, whose hair would you have?"
Matt: "I would have Donald Trump’s hair if I could pick anyone’s."
JC: "Alrighty then. What is your dream job?"
Matt: "My dream job is to be absolute ruler of my own country."
JC: "Dream higher please. My last question is, do you have anything to say to your adoring fans?"
Matt: "Album is coming in September just wait on it."
That’s all she (he*) wrote.
March 14, 2016
Hello everyone and welcome to the Spring Break edition of our mostly weekly blog. We had a spare 15 hours on Friday/Saturday in the return home trip from Florida to Cedarville so about eight hours in I am deciding to share a little info on our week (it is about 1 a.m. so bear with me). It was an action packed week so I have much to fill y’all in on and then Stephen was gracious enough to take part in our interview this week.
I’ll start with the tennis because we are in fact the men’s tennis team. Assuming you have read the sports page about all our matches, I do not need tell you how competitive these matches were, but I’ll recap them anyways. We started off the week strong against Judson. It was a fun match with a bunch of great brothers in Christ. Quick shout out to Luke for hitting the best shot I have seen all year. It was a shot that would have made Speedy proud. If you don’t know what that means, it means Luke was in a dead sprint to the right corner and he slapped a down the line passing shot as hard as humanly possible. This was followed by two heart-pounding matches against Stonehill and the University of the Sciences. The Stonehill match was especially exhilarating because at 4-4 Ryan came back from 2-7 in the third set super and won it 10-8! It is safe to say that not only Ryan erupted with his best "COME ON" but the rest of the team did as well. The University of the Sciences was another close match which came by a 5-4 decision. On Friday against St. Cloud most of us ran out of steam; however, Matt won handily in singles. Overall, it was a solid week of tennis. Once again, thanks to all the fans (mostly parents (but weren’t all parents)) who came out to support us!
There were a few more festivities that occurred during the week. We had a jam-packed week with tennis and evening devotions with Coach but there were a few other activities that went down. First was Putt- Putt with the women’s team. A good night, unfortunately I played the worst Putt-Putt of my life sorry to disappoint all of you who have been keeping up with my competitive Putt-Putt career (sorry I don’t know why I threw that in there). But the night that took the cake was Freshman Idol, a new tradition that brought many tears of joy. Luke, Jeremy, Matt, and Eric all competed with songs chosen by the upperclassmen which they then performed for both the men and women’s teams. Everyone did a phenomenal job. Ryan MC’d the event and it could not have been more perfect. Jeremy got us started with a beautiful rendition of Don’t Laugh at Me. This was followed by Luke’s angelic falsetto in the timeless classic of Mr. Sandman. We finished off the night with a duet of Eric and Matt in another timeless classic of Baby it’s Cold Outside. Our three judges (Audra, Kendall, and Elise) had varying opinions of each performance and were sure to let our contestants know what these opinions were. Elise in particular did not hold anything back, telling Jeremy he should stick to singing in his room or a closet. Luke took home first place, while Eric unfortunately placed last and was pushed in the pool. But again, it was absolute stunning performances from everyone.
Following Eric’s defeat, he opened up to us in our daily devotions. When asked of the time he last cried, he proceeded to tear up as he recounted the time he imagined the Bengals winning the Super Bowl.
On Thursday, the team went to the beach. Well that is everyone except for me. I went to Universal with my parents because the sun murders me. So for a quick recap on the beach I’m bringing in a special guest blogger, Stevie aka last year’s blogger! Stevie: "It was a perfect afternoon for soaking up some rays at Clearwater Beach. The sun was shining, and the temperature was warm but not hot. We enjoyed some friendly competition, playing Spikeball and beach football. The trip was definitely worth the seven hours it took to drive there and back! (Florida traffic is the worst!)" Jon: Thank you Stephen, now for your interview.
JC: "What is your ideal date (that you will be taking Mary on)?"
Stephen: "A nice dinner date in Cincinnati followed by a drive in the city with the windows down and country music playing. The date concludes with a nice chat in the hot tub."
JC: "If you could have anyone’s hair, whose hair would you have?"
Stephen: "Cristiano Ronaldo, hands down."
JC: "What is your dream job?"
Stephen: "My dream job is playing professional basketball for the Cleveland Cavaliers. But since that is not realistic, I will settle for crunching numbers in a cubicle."
JC: "What is your favorite quote from Spring Break?"
Stephen: "My favorite quote from Spring Break, oh gosh. Well you know who it is going to come from (Eric) but there are so many. When asked what two items he would bring with him to an abandoned island, Eric Baker said (with large eyes and open arms), ‘A BIG wrench and a small warehouse full of assorted spoons’. There is never a dull moment when good ol’ Bake is present."
Thanks again for stopping by, see you again next week.
Feb. 23, 2016
We are back! You may be thinking, "Not much time has transpired since our last chat?" Yes that is true, but oh honey there is much that has occurred. I am here as a modest storyteller to report on our adventure of a Thursday-Saturday. I will then conclude with our weekly interview, this week’s answers will come from my fellow Hoosier Jeremy Hoover.
I will touch on a few highlights of our trip, but first I want to thank our fans that made it out to New York. Big thanks to the Clark’s and the Brumbaugh’s for cheering us on. It is always hard to play on the road, but it makes it a whole lot easier when you still have fan support. Assuming you have tracked our results, I would not need to inform you that we beat Houghton on Thursday, lost to Roberts Wesleyan on Friday, and beat Daemen on Saturday. Oh look at that, I told you anyways.
First of all, Eric Baker was unable to come on the trip due to illness, but thankfully he has recovered. In his absence we chanted 1,2,3 Bake before two of our matches.
Daemen was a really close match so I’ll focus on that one. After two wonderful nights at the hotel, we got up at around 9:30 Saturday morning to eat some hotel breakfast (just fyi the rooms were divided by class so David and I got beds of our own so that was pretty cool, shouts to Coach). Just so you know, if you ever find yourself at the Comfort Inn in Rochester, NY, get the citrus peach juice for breakfast. You will thank me later. Anyways, after breakfast we left and visited the always beautiful Niagara Falls. After experiencing the Niagara Falls bathroom, David asked a very astute question. In my best David voice, "I wonder if this is the most used bathroom at a landmark/monument?" (Think about it) Just food for thought. Next, we went to Anderson’s for lunch (also highly recommended). Then it was match time. Ok, I have much respect for Daemen and their fans, but their cheering was a little obnoxious. That was probably their goal, to get in our heads, but I think we used it for fuel. Also, it made our team cheer a little louder for each other. We had four courts in the beginning, three for doubles and one for Jeremy’s exhibition singles match. Jeremy took home the win at 8-6. We took the lead in doubles 2-1. Then we lost a court so we had 1-3 singles on first. After they were done, all good matches, we were tied at 3-3. So it was tight for a little bit. Coach informed us afterwards that he knew we would win 4-6 singles. We may not have been sure, but that is definitely what happened which gave us the 6-3 win. It was a very fun match, and I’m sure there will be many more like it (hint, hint, check the schedule for future matches).
Our season continues on Spring Break where we will have four matches in Orlando, Florida. Alright, now we will learn more about our man, Jeremy.
JC: "What is your ideal first date?"
Jeremy: "Well if I could ever get a date in the first place, I would take her somewhere that seems expensive but not at all."
JC: "If you could have anyone’s hair, whose hair would you have?"
Jeremy: "Gimli from Lord of the Rings. Beard included."
JC: "What is your dream job?"
Jeremy: "My dream job would be a Navy Seals sniper."
JC: "If you could serenade a girl with any song, what song would you choose?"
Jeremy: "Mr. Sandman with a hot modern mash-up of When you’re Hot you’re Hot"
If you have not listened to these songs, they are worth listening to. The team has already heard Jeremy’s renditions of these songs, and I’m sure any girl would be swooning over him after they experience that mash-up. And that wraps it up for this week, thanks for reading folks!
Feb. 17, 2016
Hello all! We are back for the 2016 men’s tennis spring season. We are ready. We would also love to have fans, so everyone come out to a match. I can neither confirm nor deny, but I have heard coach may give candy to our fans. He has also been on record saying, you will receive candy if anyone comes to our match this Thursday at 5:00 p.m. against Houghton in Houghton, New York. Alright, well because our season has not begun yet, this post will be dedicated to recapping our ongoing intramural basketball season and beginning our weekly interview. The first interview is going to our very own renowned bachelor, Luke Ingles.
Every year the tennis team puts together an intramural basketball team. This year after much deliberation we came up with the team name, Cliff…Bar. If you want to understand why, feel free to ask Erik Baker anytime during the season. After he gets salty and refuses to answer, anyone else on the squad would be happy to let you know. Anyways our team has started out 3-0 with an aggregate score of 203-105. We will be seeking our fourth dub this Wednesday at 8:45 p.m.! Come out and support your Cliff…Bars! Also, Ryan asked for a shout out for his triple double. Great job Ryan.
We will conclude this post with an interview of our favorite tree hugger. When asked if he was a tree hugger, Luke responded with, "only the big ones." Now for the questions.
JC: "What is your ideal first date?"
Luke: "Picnic at Glacier National Park, Montana and have a nice hike and kayak."
JC: "If you could have anyone’s hair, whose hair would you have?"
Luke: "My own." (Ryan tells me: "Just write I am better than you")
JC: "What is your dream job?"
Luke: "I want to grow an apple orchard and organic farm somewhere out in the country or in the mountains."
JC: "Final question, let’s wrap this up. If you were going to jail for something what would it be?"
Luke: "I would probably punch someone in the face, but for a reason of course."

Hello faithful Cedarville men’s tennis fanatics, this is Jon Class signing on for the last time until next semester. Fortunately it will be ending on a happy note, as your very own Cedarville Yellow Jackets took down Taylor Purple Trojans aka Taylor University. Their actual mascot is just the Trojans but since we have a color in our mascot name it just felt right to add one to theirs. We pulled off the W with a 7-2 overall score.
We got things started off with a 2-1 edge in doubles. Ryan/Joel and Stevie/I came away with comfortable victories. Matt/Luke put up a great fight at #1 and barely lost it 9-8 in a tiebreaker. In singles we took #1 through #5, all in two sets. Also, I would like to acknowledge Ryan’s tweener passing shot. I’m fairly certain that would have ended up on ESPN Top 10 BUT NO ONE FILMED IT! That is my challenge to someone…anyone, film our matches. So anyone in a film class feel free to do that for a project or something idk. Just kidding. But seriously, that would be really cool.
I have a couple more announcements until I take an extended vacation from blogging. First, thanks to each and everyone one of you who have supported us in some way, whether it is attending our matches, following our progress on this blog, and/or praying for us. Your support is much appreciated.
Next, I would like to give a shout out to Adam Levesque’s sister because she did something awesome! Adam’s sister, Hannah Leatherman, won the 2015 United States Women’s Disc Golf Championships! Congratulations Hannah! Also, Hannah is part of the faith-based global sports ministry "Push The Rock". Looking at their website it looks like they are doing awesome things for Christ!
Finally, I would like to put in a formal request for potential recruits. We have a Matt, Luke, and John (although my name is spelled incorrectly), so if your name is Mark you should check out Cedarville.
Ok all, I will leave you with a verse. Try not to miss my posts too much, they will be back bigger and badder in the Spring so see you then.
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." - Colossians 3:23-24
Sept. 30, 2015
Cedarville men’s tennis families, friends, and followers, I’m sorry to say that our three-match winning streak bid has ended at the hands of the University of Findlay. A hard fought battle against the Oilers ended in an overall match score of 5-4. We got out to a great start in doubles winning at #2 and #3 doubles. Ryan and Joel had a close match until the end when they took over, winning 9-7. Stevie and I (mostly Stevie) had complete control at 3 dubs getting out to quick 7-1 lead, winning at 8-2. Sadly singles just didn’t go our way this match. Losing our first four singles ended our chance for victory. Fortunately, there were bright spots from these losses.
Matt battled through a stomach flu losing it close. Ryan played well against an extremely hard hitting opponent while playing on ice (pretty sure he fell over about every point). Luke lost the first 9 games before recovering and going up 5-4 in the second. And I hopefully learned some more humility. Down 5-2 didn’t stop Joel and David from closing out extremely close matches though! Joel won 7-5, 6-7 (1), 10-8 and David won 7-5, 6-7 (5), 10-8! Nice wins guys! I apologize to everyone who picked us on ESPN’s Streak for the Cash. Although we really wanted the victory, there are some positive take aways from this match. We are an extremely young team so we only have room to grow and multiple sources have placed that as our best ever finish against Findlay. I have spent a ridiculous amount of time on recapping this match, mostly because it was a good match against good opponents and I am very tired. Humanities makes my eyes hurt. Ochem and Achem exams in the same day. Ok sorry where was I. Oh yeah, I wanted to thank everyone who came out to the match, it was a very good showing for an away match!
This upcoming week we have two matches. Monday is away at West Virginia State. THURSDAY OCTOBER 1st is a HOME MATCH against Taylor University. Everyone should be there seeing as it is our last match of the fall season. Also it is Homecoming weekend so all you alumni should be here at the ville anyways. Also Saturday is our annual Alumni match at 1:00 feel free to stop by. I am very tired so hopefully this post is coherent. Thank you all for your time, good day.
Sept. 22, 2015
Hello, hello. The undefeated season is still alive! Cedarville men’s tennis putting up the first W on the board, for all you counting at home that brings our overall record to 1-0. A great overall performance resulted in a 9-0 victory over Indiana East. With beautiful weather and beautiful fans in Cedarville, Ohio, the Red Wolves were no match for the Yellow Jackets. Nonetheless, I think both teams enjoyed their time on the courts and played with exceptional sportsmanship. The women’s team also played at home against Indiana East and also earned a 9-0 victory. Also they followed Ryan, Joel, and I (plus families) to Colonial Pizza after the match. Also shout out to the women’s team for the chocolate, I was told that was all Lauren, so thank you Lauren. (Yes I just put four also’s in three sentences, my English teachers would be so proud).
Ok so it was revealed to me at the match that a fair number of people actually read what I have to say. Now not to say I don’t appreciate the compliments (cause I do, thank you, thank you, I am unworthy) , but it does put a little added pressure knowing that someone other than my mom, dad, or John Filcik is reading my post. However, I will try my best not to have a dip in performance. I’ll just use the same tactic I use in tennis when I need a clutch point, telling myself "I am Steph Curry". Ok enough about me back to important things.
I would like to thank those who have been praying for us. I’ve heard that some people spend time to pray specifically for the men’s tennis team and I know I can speak for all the guys when I say thank you very much we really appreciate it. I would also like to return the favor, if anyone has a prayer request feel free to email it to me at
jclass@cedarville.edu; the team would be happy to pray for you. I stole this idea from Kendall, the women’s team blogger, but I don’t think she will mind.
Ok on to this upcoming week. This week on TUESDAY 9/22/15 Otterbein will come rolling into CEDARVILLE looking for revenge. Last year we came away with a 5-4 win. This means this year should also be HIGHLY COMPETITIVE. This also means the match should be very enjoyable TO WATCH. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am telling you to come to the match as usual. Come. That is all.
Stay classy wherever you are reading this from and we shall reconvene next week. Bye.

Hello again Cedarville mMen’s tennis fans, all million of you give or take a thousand who have eagerly been awaiting my next post. Not much happened this week for mMen’s tennis seeing that our one scheduled match (at@ West Virginia State) got cancelled due to rain. P.S. That match has been rescheduled for Monday, September 28 at 3:30 p.m.
In other news, the Lady Jackets had a match on Saturday…jk they were also rained out. In a one question interview to determine if the girls won or not, also known as a text, I received the following from an unnamed source, "Nope…we got there, started warming up, and then it started raining so we didn’t even get a chance to do lineup. We got Culver’s though which could be considered a win."
One really cool thing that happened this week with Cedarville University athletes was a prayer walk. Members of each team walked around to all the different athletic facilities to pray over everyone’s upcoming season. It was a great way to kick off the athletic year talking with God and asking Him to help us perform to the best of our abilities, give all the glory to Him, and be a light for Him on and off the court/field. Thank you to the SAAC, Student Athletic Advisory Committee, for organizing the event.
Lastly, us tennis folk (I understand this is improper grammar) have a match AT HOME coming up TODAY - TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2015. We are playing Indiana East and match time is at 4:00 p.m. The women’s team will be sharing the courts with us, also playing Indiana East at 4:00 p.m. Be there or I won’t be your friend. That includes my roommate who will not be there because he has lab. There are no excuses for missing. Just kidding we will still love you, but it would be very much appreciated if everyone attended. The goal for this season is to fill all the bleachers. Please come. Please.
Again our short, precious time together has ended. Thanks for reading, see you soon. Bye.

Hey avid Cedarville tennis fans, this is Jon Class (sophomore ginger) writing as your 2015-16 men’s tennis blogger! Stevie humbly passed down his keyboard, and I will try my best to fill his Big John-sized shoes. Thank you for your service Stevie.
The team is very excited about our upcoming year; with four freshmen replacing our three seniors from last year. With no seniors this year, our team is looking forward to our next two years together. We think we have a chance to win every match this year! Not six wins, not seven, but all of them (shout out to LeBron).
With the rest of this post I would like to introduce the four new freshmen. But first, I would like to thank "big" John Filcik, Adam "Speedy" Levesque, Austin "slider-phone" Stokes and Coach Steve Lesko for a wonderful year; they are all great tennis players (Lesko could still probably beat all of us), leaders, and examples of Christ’s love! Enjoy the outside world you goons. Now on to the freshmen, I’ll go in last name alphabetically as to avoid showing any favoritism. All you parents know what I’m talking about (freshmen=children). Future parents too, yes I’m talking to you Austin/Becca and John/Ella. First we have Eric Baker hailing from Bellbrook, Ohio. Baker is an indescribable human being. Honestly, you will have to meet him for yourself (so come out to a match everyone). Fun fact about Baker, he is not the best ping pong player on the team. Ryan quickly took care of Baker’s misguided idea that he was. Eric has a great tennis game already, but being so new to the game he’s just going to get better and better. Next, we have another Ohioan - Matt Brumbaugh from West Milton, Ohio. Not only a talented tennis player, he is also very good at basketball. Hopefully, he will be leading our intramural basketball team to a championship this year. Despite what Matt says, I think he still has room to grow although he has an intimidating tennis game already.
Potential tennis team trivia question: Eric Baker and Matt Brumbaugh’s fathers were both Cedarville Men’s Tennis players. Next freshman we have is Jeremy Hoover from Spencerville, Indiana (woot woot Indiana). Something about Jeremy’s tennis game is that there is no strategy involved (words coming from his own mouth). He has powerful strokes and could potentially be a major threat on the court if he decides to use his brain. Last but not least, we have Luke Ingles from Clyde, Michigan. Never did I think there could be a replacement for Adam Levesque, but if there is, that man is Luke. Luke loves nature and has already spent days at the Indian Mounds barefoot looking at trees and what not. In my mind, Luke’s tennis game mirrors Federer’s. He doesn’t look like he is moving fast; rather he seems to just be gliding across the court. A half a month in, all four freshmen seem normal (except Baker) and will be great contributors to the team (except Baker). Just kidding, love you Bake.
Our first match this year is on September 10th at West Virginia State. Our first home match is Tuesday, September 15th against Indiana East. I expect to see all of you there. Ok guys that’s all the time we have, stay beautiful.
Jonathan Class is a sophomore at Cedarville University from Brownsburg, Ind. and a Dean's List student as a chemistry major.
