2018-19 Lady Jacket Basketball Blog

18686March 18, 2019

Hello faithful Jacket fans,

Unfortunately, as you probably know our season has come to an end. We had a tough game against Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday, March 8 which brought our 2018-19 season to a close. Although it is a sad reality for us five seniors that our basketball careers are over we have so much to be thankful for. This program has brought us life-long friends, memories, and lessons that will last us a lifetime. Whether we were on this team for 3, 4, or 5 years we are all extremely grateful for the opportunity and the years we have spent together growing alongside one another.

Here is just a small glimpse into what this program has meant to each of  us:

Honestly, there are not enough words to explain what this program has meant to me and what it has done in my life. Basketball has been a huge part of my life and I love this sport so much because of the lessons I have learned through it. God has used the sport of basketball to challenge me, to connect with me, and to show me bits of Him for 15 years. I think some may laugh at those statements thinking it's just a hobby, a game. But I am so thankful that he did choose to use a small game to have such a big impact on my life. The biggest impact and biggest blessing being the Cedarville Women’s Basketball program. I have spent the last five years with the best teammates, with the best coaches, and in the best environment. I have met some of my best friends here, been spoken into and encouraged immensely, and have grown so much in my time on this team. I am so thankful for everything CUWBB has given me, but most importantly thankful for the growth in my faith I’ve experienced because of this program. Thank you Lord for allowing me to be a small part of this team and program!

#4 Baylee Bennett:18674

My story is a little bit different since I came to Cedarville my sophomore year in college. After a year at Cincinnati Christian University, I decided to transfer to another school. Cedarville was always a school I wanted to be at. I got a good glimpse of Cedarville growing up 25 miles down the road and going to basketball camps for many years. On my visit to Cedarville I was a little nervous with the change.  However, by the end of my short visit touring campus and talking with Coach, it had felt more like home.  I came back to campus a few days later to play with the team. They instantly made me feel like I was already a part of the team.

The friendships and relationships have meant more to me than I could ever have imagined. I have gained some of my best friends being on the team and played for the best coaches I could have ever asked for.  They all have pushed me to become the best version of me as a player, mentally, and most importantly, spiritually. I am also so thankful to be surrounded by an amazing Cedarville community. The Cedarville community has been so loving and supportive throughout my three years here and are the best fans out there. I am beyond thankful to God to have been able to spend three years here and played for the best team and coaches I could have ever asked for.

 #11 Regina Hochstetler:18679

It’s hard to truly and accurately describe what this program has meant to me the past five years. I will forever be grateful for the places I got to go, things I got to do, and teams I got to be a part of because of this program. But, greater than that, I am grateful for the growth, family, and best friends that this program has given me. Growth on the basketball court and as a player because of the coaches that invested in me and believed in me. Growth in the locker room and off the floor because I was held to a higher standard. And growth in my faith because I have been surrounded by a sisterhood and coaching staff that daily set the example of what it meant and looked like to live for Jesus. This program put people in my life that have carried me through all stages of my life and I will cherish that forever.

#14 Kelly Poole: 18686

My experience is very unique because I spent my freshman year on the JV team. I remember looking up to the girls on the varsity team and thinking how cool they were. It did not take long for me to realize that moving up did not only mean I got to play varsity basketball but that I just had made the quickest 15 friends ever.

The relationships I have made on this team have truly changed my life. I thank God for this program because it has given me my best friends; these girls have walked through everyday life with me and most importantly have pushed me in my faith. Besides my teammates, the coaching staff has poured into my life in so many ways and I am so grateful for the relationship I have with them and hope to continue into the future. Overall, God has been so unbelievably faithful and good to me at Cedarville and I will forever be grateful for my three years spent with CUWBB.

Being a Cedarville Women’s Basketball player has been nothing short of incredible. Living out my dream of playing college basketball was such a slim part of what made it so great. I was able to be surrounded by girls each day that pushed me to be the best version of myself. Fifteen girls that loved me so well and were always there for me. I had coaches who invested in me and cared about who I was off the court. They set a great example of how to live your life for the Lord. This program has taught me to never let anything steal your joy and cherish each and every blessing God places in your life. I will forever be grateful for the experiences, lessons and people this program has brought me...Go Jackets!

Hello Jacket Fans!

I hope you guys aren’t sick of me yet but just in case I am going to keep this week’s blog short and sweet (just like Baylee Bennett).

We are back from our road trip in West Virginia and have secured the G-MAC Co-Championship along with Kentucky Wesleyan and Walsh. We are excited to be regular season champs but we are hungry for much more than just that.

This week we have decided to spend our Spring Break at one of our favorite destination spots: The Callan Athletic Center in Cedarville, Ohio!! We are busy preparing for our game on Tuesday against Malone University. It is hard for me to write about what we will being doing this week because at this point nothing is guaranteed. Our goal is to take one day at a time and one game at a time.

As we have entered into March we have a lot to look back on and be thankful for. However, we still have more ahead of us and we are looking forward to this next week because it is CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK.

Come out and support us at home on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and our men’s team at 7:45 p.m.! We appreciate you guys and your continued support.

Stay tuned,

Kelly

February 25, 2019

Hey guys,

We are coming off two big wins last week against Lake Erie College and Ursuline College. On Saturday we had our Senior Day game and broke a school record with 23 three-pointers. Needless to say, we had a fun week.

As I sat here thinking about what I should write in this week’s blog I was kind of at a loss. I have already updated you guys about the embarrassing things our freshmen do. I have talked about how awesome our seniors are. I have written an entire blog about Coach Hoffman. I have done some superlatives and wrote about what our team likes to do on their days off. And is it even worth talking about how well this team can play basketball?

It is no surprise to anyone that this is a special team. It only takes a few plays to notice how well this team passes the ball, hustles, shoots lights out, and plays with so much joy. However, what the fans don’t always get to see is how amazing this particular group of girls are off of the court.

I figured as my time on the CUWBB team begins to wind down I would use this blog as a time to just reflect on how amazing this team really is. This past Saturday the team flooded the locker room with streamers, balloons, letters, and gifts for our senior class. I was reminded again of how good God is that He hand picked each player to be a part of our team this year.

Every day as we put on our practice jerseys we have Proverbs 27:17 across our back which reads: "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."

This team has been nothing short of a blessing to me. Every day we battle together on the court; but it does not end there. This team truly is a sisterhood that encourages each other in the faith every single day. I am not only surrounded by girls who can go 5-for-5 from the three-point line but I am surrounded by girls who will pray for me and come alongside of me day in and day out. I am surrounded by a group of girls who love each other so well and so intentionally.

C.S. Lewis once wrote, "Christ…can truly say to every group of Christian friends "You have not chosen one another but I have chosen you for one another." God has truly blessed this team with some of the greatest girls.

We are headed into our last week of regular season games and I wouldn’t want to be crammed into a van driving to West Virginia with anyone else.

Thanks for all your continued support! We love you guys,

Kelly

Hello Jacket Fans!

As freshman Ise Bolender would say, “It’s a great day to be a Lady Yellow Jacket!”

We are coming off of a great week of practice and a wicked fun game on Saturday (I had to say wicked because I’m from Boston). We had our annual “Play 4 Kay” game where we helped raise money for breast cancer research. Each three-pointer made raised $42 for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. We hit a total of 13 three-pointers resulting in a whopping $546 buckeroos!

If you weren’t in attendance at the game you missed out on seeing our brand spanking new hot pink jerseys. Needless to say they were BRIGHT.

Speaking of bright, the seniors of the CUWBB squad are starting to plan out their future endeavors. With this coming Saturday being Senior Day, I figured I would give you a little inside scoop of what our five senior captains are thinking about for next year.

19233
(l-to-r) Ellie Juengel, Abby Wolford, Kelly Poole,
Regina Hochstetler, Baylee Bennett
Regina Hochstetler - Soon to be Russell has a big wedding come up on June 8. Reggie is busy balancing school, her marketing job, and wedding planning. We are all excited to see how beautiful she is on her big day and hope she is ready for the whole squad to take over the dance floor. I think I can speak for the whole team, as we are excited to see how God uses Marc and Reggie’s marriage to honor the Lord.

Abby Wolford
- Is graduating with a health and physical education teaching degree....Abby has many teaching opportunities and would like to stay around her family, which includes her five nieces and nephews! Abby is unsure exactly what next year holds but I am confident she will make a huge impact for God’s kingdom regardless of where she ends up.

Ellie Juengel - Unfortunately, after graduation Ell plans to head on back to her home state of Michigan to be closer to her family and boyfriend. She plans on finding a finance/marketing job which I’m sure won’t be too difficult because who wouldn’t want to hire that intelligent, hardworking, blonde beauty. As I am sad she won’t be close to us here in Ohio, I know that she will kill it back at home.

Baylee Bennett - Bay is graduating with a physical education degree and most likely plans on staying in the area. She is unsure if she will be teaching, coaching, or possibly continuing her basketball career by playing somewhere. I guess Baylee still has a few more threes left in her system.

Kelly Poole (myself) - I plan on staying here in Ohio and either attending the University of Dayton or Wright State University for school counseling. I am excited to stay in the area and be around my friends and brother and sister-in-law who are having their first baby in just a few weeks!!

I think we all give the underclassmen a lot of comfort in knowing that even though we are graduating in just a few months we really have no idea what we are doing! Although we are all unsure exactly what is in store for us next year we can all rest in the fact that our God is in control.

I may be a little biased but our senior class truly is one of a kind. It has been amazing to see God’s hand in all of our lives and how he hand picked us all to be in this class.

The way God orchestrated our whole class has been pretty unpredictable, Reggie and Abby both having to stay an extra year, Baylee transferring in from Cincinnati Christian her sophomore year, me getting moved up from JV my sophomore year, and Ell being our only “true” steady senior.

I am not sure anyone thought we would be a group of five graduating from this team together.  Looking back I wouldn’t trade these four girls for the world. They each have quickly become not only my best friends but more like my sisters. These past years we have figured out how to do life together and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for each of us.

Love you all and we thank you for your continued support! Excited to see you guys this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

~ Kelly

(Editor's Note: Senior Regina Hochstetler returns as this week's women's basketball blogger)

Hi friends,

18679
Regina Hochstetler

We’re finally back at home after a long week split between Kentucky and Tennessee for a pair of games on the road.

It was stretching road trip for your Lady Yellow Jackets but we returned to Cedarville late Saturday night after a much-needed win over Trevecca. Last Thursday night we had a tough loss to the now #1-seed, Kentucky Wesleyan. After three games dropped in a row we found that we needed to be intentional with how we stay together as a team and make adjustments where needed to ensure we bounce back Saturday. We pulled away from Nashville Saturday with a W and as number three in the G-MAC.

You might think it’s probably hard to walk away with three losses in four games. You’re right. But, some encouragement our team took away from it:

1. Games in March are what matter

2. A renewed mindset of playing free and playing loved.

Those are words we see everyday as we leave our locker room. We get to have that mindset because we are already known and fought for by the Lord. We are already victorious in Christ. Some of these truths allow us to take the focus off of ourselves and put it on Christ and our teammates. A great reminder when you’re in the middle of a difficult stretch of your season and it gets easy to start pointing fingers outwardly. Ultimately, that’s what we want our opponents and fans to see, how different we are because we play for a greater purpose and how fun it is to get to worship Jesus Christ through a silly sport :) (and win some basketball games along the way too, of course).

This week we only have one home game, it’s Saturday against Tiffin. Anddddd it’s our PINK GAME. Come watch us run around in our new and improved bright pink jerseys - you might want to come with a pair of sunglasses handy. More importantly, come join us to honor breast cancer survivors. If you know any survivors encourage them to register for free tickets to Saturday’s game. CU there!

(Editor's Note: Senior Baylee Bennett makes another appearance as this week's women's basketball blogger)

Hey there Jacket fans!
18674
Baylee Bennett

We are returning from a couple of tough road games this past weekend. We lost a couple of tough games to Findlay and Hillsdale. We are taking these games to help us grow for the rest of the season.

We got down quite a bit early in the game against Findlay. We fought back very hard and brought the game within a few points but could not come back before the time ran out. In the Hillsdale battle, we again fell early in the game. Cameron Peek helped start the fight with a quick six points. With another hard-fought battle we pulled it within a few points at the end. Abby Wolford was a beast with 22 points and grabbed a career-high of nine rebounds. Adding to that, Ashlyn Huffman had 19 points.

On another note, Levi Delimpo, who visited last weekend received his report on his scans this week. A group of doctors all came together to look at his scans. He is in FULL REMISSION!! This guy has a lot of fight as well as his family!! Thank you to all of you who were praying and please continue to pray for him and his family!!

We will be back in action on the road this week to face the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers (Thursday, February 7 @ 6:30 p.m.) and the Trevecca Trojans (Saturday, February 9 @ 3 p.m.). We are so thankful for you all and all that you do for us! We really appreciate your continued prayers and support!

Love,

Baylee

Hello Jacket Fans!

We just finished up a great week of practice and two big wins over Ohio Dominican and Ohio Valley. During our Ohio Valley game we set a new school record of 17 three’s in a game! It is safe to say this team can shoot.

Saturday was a special day because we were able to honor Levi Delimpo. Eleven months ago, Levi was diagnosed with bone cancer and has gone through a handful of surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation. Both Levi and his family’s faith have been a huge encouragement to all of us. Levi was able to attend both our game and the men’s game where he was honored at half court.
19094

I was able to talk a little bit with Levi and found out he’s a really cool dude minus the fact that he is a Steeler’s fan (go Pats!).

Please continue to keep the Delimpo family and Levi in your prayers as they continue to battle through this extremely hard time.

Also, on Saturday we had our annual alumni game. Alumni game is fun for the players to reunite with old teammates and relive their glory days. It is also fun for us players to meet alumni and see that it is possible to still run up and down the court, even after having children.

I am not sure if anyone was aware but on Saturday we were amongst one of Cedarville’s very best players in the history of the University. She was the 2004-2005 NCCAA National Player of the Year and two-time NCCAA All-America First Team choice. She was voted twice the American Mideast Conference Player of the Year and is Cedarville’s second all-time leading scorer with a whopping 2,275 points! Unfortunately, due to pregnancy she was unable to show off her skills this year. That’s right folks, THE Kari "Flunker" Hoffman was in the building on Saturday… and every other day because she is our coach.

We all know her as a coach but clearly she was quite the baller back in the day (watch out coach I only need to score about 250 points a game to beat your record).

So this week’s special edition is on the one and only Kari "Flunker" Hoffman. I was able to talk to a few of her old teammates and coaches to get a better feel for what she was like back in the day.

What her teammates had to say about her:19097

* When they were in college Flunk was always the one leading all of the pranks against the freshmen and the coaches

* She would always ask everyone "what are you going to remember in 20 years?" to get you to skip studying to hang out with her

* Flunk was as a fierce competitor (who hated losing) whether that be games, practices, cards, or backyard football

* If social media existed then like it does now, the "Flunker brow" would have its own Twitter account

* She was a gym rat and leader who was committed to being a better player and making her teammates better

* She is someone who loved pushing the limits and being adventurous

* She was a friend to everyone19098

* She was the glue that held our team together and everyone on campus loved Kari

* She always had time for everyone and made everyone feel important

* Most importantly: Flunk was known for her poetry

…. After hearing this I am not sure why I have never received a poem???

19099
2004-05

Coach Kirk Martin: I always define Flunk’s place in CU WBK this way: a tremendous competitor who despised losing, she was a fluid perimeter shooter who understood the need for practice and then more practice. But her greatest gift was her ability to make her teammates BETTER than they actually knew they could be.

Also, she would have never made it four years at Cedarville without Tami Gheen Delimpo "mothering" her through four years of academics!!!"18692

Clearly, she was extremely competitive and still is. However, no matter how competitive she is she still can’t seem to figure out how to beat Reggie and I in spike ball. But that’s okay…We’re all grateful for you coach and excited to play with you in future alumni games!

As we hit the road again this week we thank you for the constant support, we ALL appreciate you guys so much!

Love, Kelly

(Editor's Note: Senior Ellie Juengel takes her turn at this week's women's basketball blog)

Hello lovely Yellow Jacket followers,

It is Ellie Juengel here…finally you get to hear from your last senior!

18682
Ellie Juengel

This past week we were back at the Callan Athletic Center after what felt like months of road trips. We got two dubs against Alderson Broaddus and Davis & Elkins.

As we are literally snowed in for the weekend I thought what better thing to talk about than our favorite winter activities.

First lets start with the freshmen:

Emily - snow basketball because ball is life #baller

Vic - riding snowmobiles

Mader & Roh - watching movies and drinking hot cocoa (perfect that they are roomies so they can hide in the dorm and watch movies for the next four 4 months)

Lexi - TUBING (not sure if the all caps mean the tubing is super intense or that she just loves to tube)

Ise - walking my dogs in the snow (I think I would choose dog walking as a spring or summer activity)

Now for the sophomores:

Stevie - snow mobiles or anything that I can be pulled by and is dangerous

Ash - sledding

AB - throwing snowballs at Stevie and Ash (interesting that Stevie and Ash did not mention this as their favorite activity)

On to the juniors:

Cam - skiing (my Michigan girl is used to lots of snow)

Anna - winter photo shoots duhh

Saving the best for last…now to the Seniors:

Abby - playing in the snow (as she ran outside and did a dive into the snow in her clothes)

Reg - riding in her horse and buggy (in case you didn’t know, Reg is Amish and her extended family does travel by horse and buggy)

Kelly - make big snow forts and hide in them while drinking coffee #dunkin

Ellie - I have to agree with Anna here with the winter photo shoots (the only time we have stepped outside was to take pics)

Bay - sledding

Well, that’s a wrap folks. As you can see we take winter very seriously here in Cedarville, Ohio and have a variety of activities that we take part in. We all know that our true favorite activity in the winter is running up and down the court trying to put an orange ball through a hoop.

We love and appreciate you all and will see you in Callan on Thursday, Jan. 24 (5:30 p.m.) as we take on Ohio Dominican followed by Saturday, Jan. 26 (5:30 p.m.) against Ohio Valley for Alumni Weekend and Team Levi Day.

Hello Jacket Fans!!!

I hope you guys all enjoyed Abby Wolford’s fantastic VLOG of us in Florida. If you couldn’t tell, we had a great time and also discovered that after endless hours together we surprisingly don’t get sick of each other. After Florida we all enjoyed a nice week off spending Christmas time with our families!

I know it has been awhile since we have last updated you guys on our life with a BLOG so I will just give some highlights of what we have been up to:

* December 28 - The Sok’s hosted a Christmas party where we ate lots of yummy food and competed in "Minute to Win It Games" (our team can turn anything and everything into a huge competition)

* December 29 - We had a ministry opportunity to help Coach Fagan again. We cleaned and worked on a house for Safe Harbor House ministries.

* December 30 - The Moore’s opened up their home and made us a delicious dinner and topped it off with amazing brownie sundaes. Thank you Moore’s for both the games and food!

* December 31 - The Bennett’s brought us Cane’s after practice and then we headed off to Abby’s house to kick off the New Year!

(At Abby’s house: Endless games of euchre, movie marathons, secret Santa gift exchange, and once again LOTS OF FOOD…Thank you to the Wolford’s for allowing us to overtake your house and have a massive slumber party!)

* January 2 - A win at Malone

* January 3 - As a team, we went to Perrin Woods Elementary School and read books in K-6 classes. This was a really neat opportunity to get into the community and we all really enjoyed it. For dinner, the Harmon’s made us another delicious meal… a huge shout out to the Harmon’s for making us a dinner every year!

* January 4 - We had a duo dinner at Rob’s house… Rob took the challenge of feeding both the men’s and women’s team and let me tell you, we can eat a lot! Thank you Rob!

* January 5 - Tough loss at Walsh

* January 8 - Classes began and we all had to quickly remind ourselves how to do school work and sit through hour classes.

* January 10 - A win at Lake Erie

* January 12 - A fun win at Ursuline with lots of joy and energy!!

After Ursuline we trekked back to Cedarville through the snowstorm and turned a 2 ½ hour bus ride into a 6+ hour bus ride!! Luckily we can figure out how to make anything fun as a team. We made a lot of snack stops, played some cards, took some naps, pulled some pranks on each other, and watched a movie before we safely arrived back home.

* January 13 -  We are all enjoying a beautiful and snowy Sunday off from school and basketball!

We are all excited to have a stretch of four home games coming up and take a break from riding in that bus!

We would appreciate prayers for one of our freshmen Vic Fliehman who had surgery on December 21st to repair her meniscus and is now working hard to get back on the court with us.

We love you all!

- Kelly

(Editor's Note: Senior Abby Wolford takes a turn at this week's women's basketball blog)

Hello faithful Yellow Jacket fans / women’s basketball blog readers!
18688
Abby Wolford

You haven’t heard from me in a while but your favorite blog writer is back in action… It’s me, Abby Wolford. Like Regina Hochstetler I am in fact still here (5th year senior problems….am I right Reg??)

Last week was a big week for your Lady Jackets as we played the pre-season ranked #1 and #2 teams in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC): Hillsdale and Findlay. In case you missed the games, we ended with 2 HUGE team wins!! As Ashlyn Huffman put it after beating Findlay on Saturday "this means we are #1 in the conference babyyyyy!"

Thank you pep band, cheerleaders, and all you faithful fans that came to those two big games this past week! We appreciate all the support! Speaking of support, we would also appreciate any thoughts and prayers these next two weeks! This is the part of the season where big presentations, last assignments, and finals week are coming at us full force. Not to mention more big conference games and the classic yearly sicknesses that go around! So prayers that our team stays healthy both mentally and physically these next two weeks are greatly appreciated.

We love and appreciate you all and will see you in the Callan Athletic Center Thursday, Dec. 6 @ 5:30 p.m. (Trevecca) and Saturday, Dec. 8 @ 1 p.m. (Kentucky Wesleyan) as we take on two more G-MAC foes!!

November 26, 2018

Hello everyone,

I know that you haven’t heard from Abby or Ellie yet but yours truly (Kelly) is taking over this weeks’ blog yet again. I am writing to you guys probably about five pounds heavier because we are fresh off of Thanksgiving Break.

I thought it would be very timely if I wrote about what our players were thankful for this year. So I sent out a big group text to my fellow teammates asking them if they could let me know and...I got a whopping one text back!

So, yeah Stevie Johnting said she is thankful for me (Kelly) and a supportive and loving family, her funny and amazing friends/ teammates, and Gods’ forever faithfulness. Thank you Stevie, for being the only one to text me back!

Anyways, instead of bothering everyone again I decided I would just ask the coaches a few questions for this "Very Special Thanksgiving Edition"…. and they actually responded so that was really nice of them.

Who on the team do you think consumed the most pie over break? Answers:
Coach Hoffman: Ashlyn
John: Ashlyn
Steve: Ashlyn
Jimmy: Reggie? (mainly just because the Amish throw together good pie)

Who on the team was most excited to go black Friday shopping?

Answers:
Coach Hoffman: Anna or Alli Roh
John: Anna
Steve: Anna
Jimmy: AB (because she lives for the overall adventure-crazy people, potential fights, parkour maneuvers to get around stores, etc.)

What 2 teammates had separation anxiety over break and probably face timed every night? Answers:
Coach Hoffman: Kelly and Mader
John: Cam and Anna
Steve: Kelly and Mader
Jimmy: Kelly and Mader

Who most likely laid on the couch with their sweats on while in a food coma the whole break? Answers:
Coach Hoffman: Mostly everyone on our team
John: Baylee
Steve: Ashlyn
Jimmy: Tossed around - Steve, John, Ellie - Final answer: Emily ("She’d be cool with veggin’ out on the couch all weekend")
Who on the team was most sappy and sent out how "thankful" they were texts?

Answers:
Coach Hoffman: Maybe Ellie?
John: Mader
Steve: Lexi
Jimmy: Not Flunk (Coach Hoffman). Maybe Anna

Summary:
Well there ya have it folks in summary, the coaches think Ash can really throw back some pie, Anna loves to shop, Mader and I can’t live without each other, our whole team is pretty good at being lazy, and to be honest nobody in particular is really that sappy.

On a more serious note, we are all extremely thankful for everything God has blessed us with this year: our loving families, teammates, coaching staff, and of course our faithful fans (which most likely is you if you are reading this blog).

In basketball news…
We are heading into a big week because it is our first week of conference play!!!!

WE ARE PLAYING AT HOME SO WE NEED EVERYONE TO BE IN ATTENDANCE.

Thursday at 5:30 p.m. vs. Hillsdale (If you remember correctly, this is the team that knocked us out of the tournament last year…so we need a big crowd!)

Lastly, I know Reg tried getting a new segment started called "She’s a Freshman." And I am almost certain our freshmen did some pretty embarrassing and awkward stuff this past week but due to break I unfortunately was not around them to witness it.

So, instead I will leave you guys with this random photo of your seniors (as promised in my first blog)....

We love you guys <>

(Editor's Note: Senior Regina Hochstetler takes a turn at this week's women's basketball blog)

Jacket fans, hello.

First I would like to thank Kelly for giving me this opportunity and second, I would like to thank you guys for wandering on over here to take a glance at what your favorite Lady Jackets have been up to this week. Oh, and this is Regina ‘Reg’ Hochstetler (yes, I am still here).

'Reg' Hochstetler

The team hasn’t been up to too much this past week so I’ll highlight the only two events that you guys might be interested in.

First, we had the privilege of having another game this week, against Wilberforce. We won. Not much else to say there except that we are daily learning and growing as a team and we hope you’ll follow our journey all season!

Second, we had the opportunity to work alongside one of our very own, a former player and assistant coach, Coach Joy Fagan. Coach Fagan is restoring a house for women who transition out of trauma and substance abuse programs and we got to be a small part of that process. We spent the afternoon cleaning, moving furniture, painting, tearing down some wallpaper and eating tacos. Coach Fagan’s heart for women’s ministry is encouraging and we ask that you keep her and Safe Harbor in your prayers!

I’m introducing a new little segment called "She’s a Freshman". This might only happen when I make my appearances or maybe my fellow seniors will pick up on it too, I guess you have to keep coming back to find out.

This week’s "She’s a Freshman" moment goes to Emily Chapman aka Chappie:

If you’ve watched any of our scrimmages, pre-season game, or three games of the season so far you may have noticed a crafty little (5’2") point guard shaking and baking people out there and that is in fact Chappie. If you’re asking the same questions I was you might have been wondering how in the world does that girl pull off moves like that, you might also ask yourself how you could become as fly as her not only on the court but just in life in general (the girl can dance and the girl has shoe game). Well, after much observing her secret finally slipped out so here it is, just eat more flies. I can’t make this up; if you ever have the privilege to meet her you might ask her to demonstrate so you can witness it with your own eyes. The girl can put down some flies without hesitation and I’m choosing to accept her for this because she’s a freshman and is just trying to figure herself out.

Upcoming:
We play this Tuesday at home at 5:30 p.m. against Ohio Christian. Come!!

Thank you for stopping by, we love and appreciate you guys,

Reg

(Editor's Note: Senior Baylee Bennett takes a turn at this week's women's basketball blog)

Hello faithful women’s basketball blog readers! First, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Baylee Bennett and I am one of the five senior captains writing the blog this year. Since our most talented and eloquent writer Kelly Poole took charge of the first week, it is most fitting that the second best writer writes the second blog, right?? :)

Family Fun!
18774
Last week we started the season with a Halloween party. All members of the team including coaches were instructed to dress up in a costume. The best costume won a prize. And the winner of the costume contest was….Ise Bolender and Ashlyn Huffman (dressed as Regina Hochstetler and Marc Russell getting married). The night was filled with some scares, spooky treats, family games and lots of laughter.

18772The Season is Here!

THE SEASON HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED. This past weekend was so exciting being back on the court with my sisters again playing someone other than ourselves. It was filled with some heartache and a lot of joy. I am so proud of how gritty and hard my team played this weekend. Friday, we played the #2 team in the nation, the Ashland Eagles. Although, we did not come out with a win, I was so proud of how tough we battled the whole game. It was encouraging to see how hard and well we can play together hopefully throughout the rest of the season. Saturday, we played the Quincy Hawks. Although, we started a little rusty in the first half from playing the day before, we quickly kicked it into gear. Quincy played a tough extended zone in the second half, however, we figured out the right gaps soon after that. We defeated Quincy 67-40.

Upcoming!

Looking at this week we play the Wilberforce Bulldogs Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and the Ohio Christian Trailblazers next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Cannot wait to see you guys there Jacket fans!

Thanks for your continued support! :)

HELLO JACKET FANS!

To keep all you faithful blog readers entertained the senior class decided we would all pitch in to write the blog this year. However, I believe they wanted the most scholarly, talented, and most eloquent writer to handle the first blog so I decided to take charge of this first week. I’m not sure the four other seniors are aware of this but they will soon realize after this is published. So, to tell you all a little bit about myself, my name is Kelly Poole and I am honored to be one of the five senior captains.

Our team has six new beautiful faces this year so I think I will go ahead and let you guys know a little bit of background about our team as you follow us on our journey.

I’ll start with introducing the freshmen and then end with the seniors (just so we can save the best for last). Also, as I’m sure you know, I was totally kidding earlier about being the best writer (I very well may be the worst). So, I’m just going to stick with a short little blurb about each player to make it easier on myself.

Our SIX newest Additions:
18716
#0 Emily Chapman
What you need to know: We all call her Chappy, she has some sweet dance moves, and some of the best handles I’ve ever seen (for those who need a translation, handles= she’s good at dribbling).
If you have trouble spotting her: Makes sense because she’s like 5’2" but look for the girl with a shooting sleeve (Chap is super swaggy).

#10 Victoria Fliehman
What you need to know: We call her Vic. She is honestly so sweet and rumor has it she’s really smart. Vic has been working extremely hard to get back on the court after tearing her ACL in January. We cannot wait to play with her :)
If you have trouble spotting her: I don’t have much help for you? She’s blonde but so is the rest of our team...

#20 Isabelle Bolender
What you need to know: OK this is important, we call her Ise. Not like "ice" but like "is-he" with a little less "h". If that makes no sense to you then just go up to her and ask her how to say her name, she’s really outgoing so she would love it (and PSA for the boys...she’s single). I hate to write this but Ise tore her ACL during camp in June and has decided to red shirt this year. As a senior class, we are really disappointed we didn’t get the chance to play with her.
If you have trouble spotting her: She’s really skinny (which doesn’t make sense because she eats like 10 PB&J’s a day) and she also has really curly hair.

#24 Allison Mader
What you need to know: We only know her as "Mader" but I am pretty sure she also responds to Allison (just in case any boys were out there wondering…. because she is also single). Anyways, Mader is super speedy on the court, hysterical, and always down for a good time.
If you have trouble spotting her: Look for the girl whose shorts are hiked up past her belly button.

#30 Allie Roh
What you need to know: We call her Roh (it’s her last name). Roh talks super fast, she has some sweet post moves, and comes all the way from Nebraska!
If you have trouble spotting her: You shouldn’t, she is one of our only players who is taller than 5’6".

#44 Lexi Moore
What you need to know: We call her Lex… pronounced like Lexi just drop the i :) Lex is one of the hardest workers on our team; she kills it in the weight room, and kind of is like the team mom (even as a freshman).
If you have trouble spotting her: Find the girl on the court grabbing all the rebounds.

I spent way too much time writing on the freshmen because honestly they are awesome and our team has been blessed by each of them this year. I think I can speak for the rest of the team by saying we feel like we’ve known them for years...not two months.

18717

Our THREE sophomores:

#5 Ashlyn Huffman, #13 Stevie Johnting, and #21 Annabelle Hinds....These girls add so much value to our team both on and off the court. We are so thankful as seniors to get another year with them.

18718Our TWO Juniors:

#12 Anna DeFilippo and #23 Cameron Peek…we are fortunate to have these girls help lead with us this year. Both of their roles have been key to our team. This picture describes them really well because they love to dress up and go shopping.

Our FIVE seniors:

#3 Abby Wolford, #4 Baylee Bennett, #11 Regina Hochstetler, #14 Kelly Poole, and #33 Ellie Juengel…Due to the fact that I have already wrote a lot, I think I’ll save the details and a pretty picture of us for another week!

This weekend we are traveling to Ohio Dominican in Columbus to play Ashland (Friday/5:45 p.m.) and Quincy (Saturday / 1 p.m.). We have worked extremely hard this preseason and can’t wait to beat up on someone other than our own teammates.

Also, please pray for Coach Hoffman this year BECAUSE not only is she trying to deal with the 16 of us, her coaching staff, and her two little girls.... BUT she is PREGNANT :)....so maybe actually pray for us players too?

Sorry this was so long, we love you guys!

- Kelly
