WHAT A YEAR!

We were so blessed with the opportunity to compete this year despite all the COVID restrictions.
We wrapped up the season this past weekend as we traveled to Kentucky to compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) championship. A few athletes will be competing for a few more weeks in preparation for the National Championships in Michigan. This weekend there were so many strong performances from all areas of the track leading us to a fifth-place finish. A huge shout out to the freshmen class for all of their top finishes!

Despite classes concluding, the team stayed on campus an extra week for the meet. Let’s just say we had our fair share of long board, skateboard, and bike rides around campus. The team left campus for Kentucky on either Tuesday or Wednesday to arrive at the hotel. The hotel was located on a river with a boardwalk, and I can’t forget to mention the pool! Whether it was on the bus, in the pool, laying on the turf, or in the hotel, there were so many opportunities this week to build relationships. There was something really special about having the whole team together for the week. Track will come to an end someday, but what will last is the relationships built with teammates, the lessons learned, and the memories made. A conversation I had with a teammate on the bus reminded me of these truths and the importance of placing our identity in Christ, rather than in our performances on the track.

On our way back from Kentucky the bus ride was getting a little too boring leading some guys to test the size of the bathroom. There were way too many bodies in one tiny area, to say the least. Hard to believe that a year ago we had to be six feet apart.

Lastly, I want to thank our seniors for all they have poured into the team over the last four years. It has been a joy getting to know them. They will be dearly missed! Another bittersweet goodbye goes to our throws/assistant coach, Coach Gwinn. This was his last season with us as he just welcomed a baby girl into his family and has found another job. His ability to make anyone laugh and his encouragement will be missed!

Thanks for tuning in!

For His Glory,

Bryn Mozzi

This past weekend the team traveled to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio to compete one last time before the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) championships. It is hard to believe that this season is coming to an end. We are looking forward to competing one last time as a team in Kentucky! This will be a three-day meet starting Wednesday and finishing Friday (May 5-7).

This past weekend was a little rainier and windier than we would’ve liked, but the team still powered through.

Some outstanding performances:
The unstoppable duo: Rachel Sweeney and Alayna Ackley pushed each other to second and third-place finishes in the steeplechase.
Freshmen Alexandra Brizzi and Caroline Schaeckenbach also were a power duo producing top finishes in the sprints and hurdles. Brizzi placed second in the 200 meters and third in the 100 meters. Schaeckenbach was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles.

The team will be staying on campus an extra week for G-MAC, and some even a few weeks after that for nationals. We are looking forward to a fun week of hanging out as a team and preparing for G-MAC. Stay tuned to see all the hard work we have poured into this season pay off!

For His Glory,

Bryn Mozzi

This past weekend the women’s track and field team traveled to Tiffin University to compete. The throwers and multi-athletes competed Friday, and the rest of the team finished the weekend off strong on Saturday. The heptathletes (me) started off Saturday, making us leave campus at 5:30 AM. I  sincerely apologize to my teammates for making them get up earlier than needed, they definitely didn’t let me hear the end of that!

Sarah Himes started off the weekend with a third-place throw marking of 138-9 (42.29 meters) which is the fifth-best throw in school history. On Saturday Rachel Sweeney’s first-place finish in the steeplechase marked the seventh fastest in the country. Not to mention this was only her second time competing in this event.

Other outstanding performances:
Alexandra Brizzi placed third in the 100 meter dash in 12.20 seconds and was also third in the 200 meters in 25.70.
Alayna Ackley was second in the steeplechase with a time of 11:02.73
Bethany Sholl had a strong third-place finish in the 5K with a time of 18:14.50.
Haleigh Eckert placed third in the pole vault with a vault of 11-9.75 (3.60 meters).

This coming weekend the team is off to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio for the RedHawk Invitational. We are looking forward to a strong finish to the season! I cannot believe this season is coming to an end, but we are so excited to watch all our hard work pay off in the upcoming G-MAC Championships on May 5-7 at Kentucky Wesleyan.

For His Glory,

Bryn Mozzi

This past weekend the women’s track and field team divided and conquered. A group left Thursday morning and headed to Lee University in Tennessee. The others left on Saturday at the crack of dawn to head to Indiana Tech. The team, despite the location, battled winds and rain. However, the team still showed up and performed to the best of their abilities. Lots of memories were made standing in the rain, on the bus, or in the hotel.

Some performance highlights include:
Rachel Sweeney placed fourth in the 800 meters and was 10th in the 1,500.
Caroline Schaeckenbach was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles.
Cecily Holliday won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:20.63.
Sarah Himes placed second in the discus.

You never know what conditions you are going to face in outdoor track, but as our coach always says, everyone is competing in the same conditions. Your attitude towards the race will play a huge role in your performance and at the end of the day, medals will still be handed out despite the conditions. I am thankful for a team willing to persevere and have fun while doing it.

This coming weekend the whole team will be together at Tiffin! Multi-athletes and throwers will start the weekend off on Friday and join the rest of the team on Saturday. We are looking forward to another opportunity to compete well and hope for some more sunshine!

For His Glory,

Bryn Mozzi

This past weekend the team split and traveled to Indiana and North Carolina. Haleigh Eckert and Lauren Willow represented the Cedarville women’s team at High Point University while the rest of the women's team was represented at Taylor University.

Freshman Haleigh Eckert produced a PR of 3.70 meters in the pole vault, placing her in sixth.
Senior Lauren Willow high jumped 1.53 meters, also placing her in sixth.

The group that traveled to Indiana also produced some PR’s and excellent performances. Sarah Himes’ discus throw placed her first in the meet and seventh-best effort ever at Cedarville. Caroline Schaeckenbach had a victory in the 400 meter hurdles while being serenaded with the song “Sweet Caroline”. Maybe it is good luck?

Other outstanding performances include:
Alexandra Brizzi ran a 12.26 placing her in a very close second place finish in the 100 meters.
Hannah Willow placed third in the high jump by clearing 1.59 meters.
Katie Hadley was third in the triple jump at 9.73 meters.
The 4 x 400 meter relay came in fourth with a time of 4:17.64.
Abigail Brown finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 31.14 meters.

This weekend part of the team will make the trip to Tennessee to compete at Lee University while the other athletes will be competing at Indiana Tech.

We are excited for another opportunity to improve and are praying that the rain stays away. We have been blessed with beautiful weather so far and are hoping to continue this trend!

Stay tuned for more updates next week!

For His Glory,

Bryn Mozzi

Welcome back to the Women's Track and Field BLOG!

We were so blessed this past weekend with the ability to host 33 teams on our home turf with spectators! It was a busy place filled with so much energy and excitement all day (and night). It is crazy to believe that almost exactly a year ago we were all sent home to be quarantined. We are so thankful to be back competing outdoors one year later! Also, I can’t leave out that we were blessed with beautiful weather (in March!). The women’s team walked away with a few burnt faces and a fourth-place overall finish.

First, I would like to highlight some personal records set from this weekend.

Anna Steich had a PR in the 5K.
Ratchel Sweeney had a PR in the 1,500 meters.
Madeline Barnes had a PR in the javelin.
Bryn Mozzi had a PR in the shot put.
Alexandra Brizzi had a PR in the 100 meters.
Naomi Herman had a PR in the 5,000 meters.

Second, I would like to congratulate some outstanding team performances.

Haleigh Eckert won the pole vault at 12-0.50 (3.67 meters) which marks the third-best in school history.
Lyssi Snouffer placed second in the high jump by clearing 5-6 (1.68 meters) which ties for fourth on Cedarville’s all-time list.
Britain Musick placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles and the 200 meters.
Bethany Sholl won the 10,000 meters.
Sarah Himes threw the second-best discus throw in school history.

We are off to a great start and we are looking forward to more opportunities to improve. This weekend the team is traveling to Taylor University in Indiana.

Stay tuned for an exciting outdoor season!

For His Glory,

Bryn Mozzi

What a season!!

This season consisted of a lot of rescheduling, empty stands, and uncertainty. Although it was different, there were so many positives to be grateful for. First, I would like to thank our coaches for all their hard work this season to reschedule meets and drive us hours to compete. Secondly, a huge thank you goes out to our athletic trainers for working so well with our team throughout this season.

Last weekend we had the privilege of hosting the G-MAC meet on the home “turf” It was a lot quieter and different than last year, but that did not affect anyone! The team had a great finish to the indoor season.

Highlights:
Rachel Sweeney finished first in the mile with a time of 5:03.03 with second place only .01 behind.
Freshman Lyssi Snouffer broke her own school record (again!!) in the high jump placing second.
Freshman Britain Musick broke the school record in the 60 meter hurdles and placed third.
The DMR (including Remington Hobson, Madeline Peramaki, Caroline Schaeckenbach, and Naomi Herman) placed second.
Jordan Penrod and Remington Hobson had personal bests in the mile.
Naomi Herman PR’d in the 3000 meters.
Amy Plank PR’d in the 5K by 16 seconds.
Lindsey Bishop was selected for the Scholar-Athlete Elite 23 Award.

For the next few weeks, we will be training hard in preparation for the outdoor season. Stay tuned for more records being broken and new goals being met!

For His Glory,

Bryn

This past weekend we made the hike of 3 1/2 hrs to Michigan to compete at Hillsdale. The field event group beat the sun up leaving at 5:30 a.m., and the rest of the team met us there. Luckily, a few other people and I were able to catch up on some sleep on the way there.

The weekend was full of so many great performances! Cedarville claimed the top four finishes in 3K and 5K. Bethany Sholl finished first in the 3K, and Rachel Sweeney finished first in the 5K. Also, congrats to our freshmen Lyssi Snouffer and Haleigh Eckert on their first-place finish in the high jump and the pole vault.

More highlights:
Sarah Himes’ weight throw marked second in Cedarville history.
Rachel Sweeney set a personal record in the 3K with a 10:06.
Britain Musick set a PR of 9.15 in the 60 meter hurdles finishing fourth in finals.
Amy Plank set a PR in the 5K.
Bethany Wormack set a PR in the weight throw and the shot put.

Not only was there a lot happening on the track, but off the track as well. The field event group arrived at 9:15 a.m., and before 10 a.m., Turner White was already on his Guitar Hero grind. Then, Nathan Menk put on some jazz background music for dinner. It set an interesting vibe, and some people (cough cough Matthew Julian) broke out what he would call dance moves.

We plan to keep the success rolling into this coming weekend as we are on home turf for the G-MAC Championships! Stay tuned for more updates.

For His glory,

Bryn Mozzi

Welcome back to another week!

After the canceling of a big meet at Grand Valley State this past weekend, the CU Track & Field teams traveled to Ohio Wesleyan University for a dual meet. The meet looked a little different than our usual meets that’s for sure! We headed out late afternoon which is also very different than our usual 6:00 a.m. departure.

However, the size and circumstances of the meet did not slow anyone down. Haleigh Eckert met the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard in the pole vault, and Sarah Himes weight throw marked fourth on the Lady Jackets' all-time list. Freshman Britain Musick placed first in the 200 meters and the 60 meter Hurdles.

I think no matter what track & field meet you are at, the 4 x400 meter relay always has the most energy surrounding it. Not only this weekends meet, but every meet, it is a highlight to watch and join the team in cheering for our 4x4 teams.

While we were about to leave somehow Luke Hannay got in the driver's seat of a bus full of nine guys (the first problem). Then, they started rocking the bus back and forth and from the outside made it look like a tire was going to pop. Luckily, Coach Gwinn came to the rescue and we were on our way home safely!

I am thankful for a team that knows how to work hard and play just as hard.

This coming weekend we will be traveling to Hillsdale College for our last regular meet of the indoor season. We are looking forward to competing at the G-MAC and the NCAA II championships in just a few weeks! Stay tuned for another week of outstanding performances.

For His glory,

Bryn Mozzi

Another week...another meet! This past weekend the Women’s Track & Field Team competed at Tiffin University both Friday and Saturday. Friday consisted of the 5K and multi-events, such as the heptathlon and pentathlon. It was definitely a change of pace competing without the rest of the team, but the distance crew made sure to cheer me on when they had the chance. My favorite moment of the meet was looking over while warming up for the long jump and seeing Alayna Ackley doing pull-ups in the corner of the track. There is never a dull moment.

Cedarville dominated in the 5K with the Top 5 finishes starting with Alayna Ackley, followed by Bethany Sholl, and Amy Plank coming in third. Just seconds behind, Rebecca Jenkins and Claire Smout finished in fourth and fifth. Also, shout out to Cecily Holiday on a personal record of 24 seconds!

Unfortunately, I was not there in person on Saturday, but I was able to watch all the excitement through the live stream. Rachel Sweeney finished first in the 3,000 meters followed by Remington Hobson and Naomi Herman. Freshmen Britain Musick and Caroline Schaeckenbach made their debut in the hurdles finishing in third and sixth. Lyssi Snouffer, also a freshman, placed first in the high jump breaking a 33-year-old school record and making an NCAA provisional mark. HUGE shout out to all our freshmen on their amazing performances!

This Friday we are off to Ohio Wesleyan for another opportunity to break records and have fun while doing it! Thanks for tuning in, and I can’t wait to update you on the performances this weekend.

For His glory,

Bryn Mozzi

February 1, 2021

Hello, Women’s Track & Field fans! I am Bryn Mozzi, a sophomore Allied Health major with a psychology minor and compete as a pentathlete/heptathlete on the Track & Field team. This past year has been full of change, and challenges for so many people. Being sent home last March due to COVID took away our outdoor season leaving us all hungry to compete again. After almost 11 months without competition, we are back and more excited than ever!

First, I would like to introduce our new freshmen! They have brought so much energy to the team and I am excited to see their hard work pay off this season. Additions to the hurdle crew are Britain Musick and Caroline Schaeckenback. There is never a dull moment with the hurdle crew that is for sure! Our other freshmen include Alexandra Brizzi (sprinter), Haleigh Eckert (pole vaulter), Anna Gatchell (javelin), and Lyssi Snouffer (high jumper) who joins us from the Volleyball Team. On the distance end, we have Haley Ansiel, Martha Bergley, Naomi Herman, and Abi Skurdal. Welcome to the family!

Now, onto a recap of our first meet! This past weekend a part of the Women’s Track & Field team headed out at the crack of dawn at 4:45 a.m. to Indiana Tech. We jumped into vans and got (kinda) comfortable to hopefully catch up on some sleep. Although this indoor season is going to look a lot different due to COVID restrictions, we are blessed to be able to compete. The meet was split into different sections of events throughout the day to limit the number of people in the building at a time. The first section was full of jumping, throwing, & more jumping. Huge shout out to the sophomore throwers on their strong performances.

Sarah Himes finished second in the weight throw, Bethany Wormack set a personal record, and Katie Hall came back from a year-long injury! Way to start the season off with a bang, ladies. A perk of the new COVID restriction is most athletes are able to leave early from the meet. Although this was not the case for me and a few of the guys because we competed in both sections. The second group did not return to campus until 1:00 a.m., making it a long 21 hour day for us.

In the second section of the meet, we had strong performances from the long distance end of the team. Shout out to Rachel Sweeney on her amazing first-place finish in the mile followed by Remington Hobson coming in third. Freshman Naomi Herman finished only four seconds behind, coming in seventh. Also, a shout out to Madeleine Peramaki for setting a new college personal record by seven seconds in the 800 meters!

We are pumped for another week of training leading up to this weekend’s meet at Tiffin University! Distance runners competing in the 5K and myself in the Pentathlon will head out on Friday while the rest of the team will compete on Saturday.

Here is to another week of getting stronger and faster! With all that being said, I ask for prayers for those who are injured and unable to compete this week.

For His glory,

Bryn Mozzi
