Veteran Yellow Jacket coach John McGillivray is part of the track & field staff specializing in the pole vault and high jump.
He is a former Yellow Jacket athlete, who was the 1970 Mid-Ohio Conference champion in the pole vault.
McGillivray registered 375 victories in 42 years of coaching soccer at Cedarville. He won 215 matches with the men from 1974-97 and 160 more with the women from 1998-2015.
His men’s teams won eight conference titles, five NCCAA District III banners, three NAIA District 22 championships, and one NAIA Area IV crown which carried with it a trip to the NAIA Championship in 1974 - the only trip Cedarville ever made to the national tournament.
McGillivray guided his squad to five NCCAA National Tournament appearances and a pair of NCCAA National Runner-Up finishes. He was chosen the NCCAA Men’s Soccer National Coach of the Year in 1981.
On the women’s side, his teams made a pair of NCCAA appearances with one regional title. The Lady Jackets won the 2015 Great Midwest Athletic Conference title and made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Championship.
The Springfield, Ohio native is a member of the Cedarville University Athletic Hall of Fame, the NAIA Hall of Fame, and the NCCAA Hall of Fame.
McGillivray is a former associate professor in the University’s Department of Kinesiology and Allied Health. He is a 1970 graduate of Cedarville College and earned his master's degree in 1976 from the University of Dayton.
John and his wife, Bonnie, reside in Cedarville and have five children and 16 grandchildren.
