Biography

Evan Thayer is the top middle distance runner for the Yellow Jackets and has assembled an outstanding career.....#1 runner on the cross country team in all six meets in which he ran.....NCCAA All-American after placing 3rd of 209 competitors in 25:41 and was also the Wheeler Award recipient.....finished 31st of 310 in the All-Ohio Championship in 25:57.....NCCAA Scholar-Athlete.

2010-11 - NCCAA champion on the track in the indoor mile (4:13.85) and outdoor 1,500 meters (3:53.91).....NAIA qualifier in both events.....also won the indoor mile at the GaREAT Open in a career-best 4:13.63.....NCCAA Indoor All-American in the 800 with a runner-up time of 1:56.23.....ran a career-best outdoor 1,500 at the Hillsdale Relays in 3:47.96.....best outdoor 800 was 1:54.05 in the Cedarville Open.....member of NCCAA Outdoor runner-up 4 x 800 meter team that set a school record of 7:44.94 and qualified for the NAIA Championship.....American Mideast Conference champion in the 1,500 and 4 x 800.....NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete.....appeared in seven varsity cross country meets and was among the team’s top two finishers six times.....placed 11th of 313 runners at the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational in a personal-best 8K time of 25:05.....finished 5th in the AMC in 25:29 to earn a spot on the All-AMC First Team.....CU’s top finisher at the NAIA Championship placing 72nd of 326 in 26:16.

2009-10 - NAIA Indoor All-American on the track in the 1,000 meters placing 4th in a school-record mark of 2:27.38.....NCCAA All-American as the runner-up in the indoor mile (4:17.04) and outdoor 1,500 meters (4:00.68).....AMC runner-up in the 1,500 in 4:10.37.....NAIA outdoor finalist in the 1,500.....produced an outstanding cross country season in the fall.....NCCAA individual champion in a season-best 25:31.....All-AMC First Team performer by placing 7th in 25:55.....CU’s #2 finisher at the NAIA Championship finishing 76th of 323 in 26:23.....ran in seven of eight meets and was among team’s top four each time out.

2008-09 - NCCAA Indoor All-American on the track as the runner-up in the mile in a season-best 4:18.85.....member of 4 x 800 squad that won the AMC title with a school and meet record time of 7:48.02.....qualified for the NAIA Nationals in the indoor mile and outdoor 1,500 meters.....top indoor time in the 800 was 1:57.76 at Findlay.....part of 4 x 800 indoor school record of 7:48.08.....best outdoor marks were 1:54.17 in the 800 and 3:53.58 in the 1,500.....competed in the 1,500 at the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Eugene, Oregon.....saw action in all eight varsity cross country meets as a freshman and placed among the team’s top seven runners on seven occasions.....best time was 26:05 in the Cedarville Open to end up 11th overall.....turned in a 26:18 effort at the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational to place 48th of 228.....Jackets’ #5 finisher at the NAIA Nationals in 26:51.....AMC honorable mention with a 19th-place showing of 28:05.

High School - Participated in three seasons of cross country earning two letters at Naperville Central High School.....two-time all-conference choice.....three-year letter winner in four seasons of track.....all-state 4 x 800 meter relay performer as a junior.....four-time state qualifier and three-time all-conference honoree.....member of two-time conference champion 4 x 800 unit.....team captain in both track and cross country.....Illinois State Scholar.....National Honor Society student.

Personal - Dean’s List student as a biology major at Cedarville University.....born 5/15/90 in Toronto, Ontario.....son of Martin and Carolyn Thayer.....father competed in wrestling and football at Wheaton College.....has one older sister, a younger brother, and a younger sister.
