Cedarville University Yellow Jackets

Matt Cheney is back for his fourth year with the Yellow Jackets.....ran in all seven cross country meets in the fall.....All-G-MAC First Team by placing 7th in 26:20 for the 8K.....helped CU win its third straight conference trophy.....finished 86th of 202 in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional in 33:21 for the 10K.

2013-14 - G-MAC honorable mention on the track in the 1,500 meters by placing 3rd in 4:08.63.....also ran the outdoor 800; 3,000; and 5,000.....placed 6th in the NCCAA Indoor Championship 5K in 15:35.78.....ran in six varsity meets as a junior and placed among the team’s top seven each time out.....All-G-MAC First Team by placing 5th in 26:11 for the 8K.....posted a season-best mark of 25:49 at Appalachian State to place 54th of 229.....finished 7th of 129 at the Friendship Invitational in 26:07.....USTFCCCA Division II Scholar-Athlete.....NCCAA Scholar-Athlete.....G-MAC Academic Team.

2012-13 - NCCAA Outdoor All-American on the track in the 5,000 meters after placing 3rd in a career-best 14:56.79.....finished 6th at the NCCAA Indoor 5K in 15:15.65 and was 7th in the 3K in 8:45.95.....started five varsity cross country meets and completed four.....posted a career-best time of 25:26 to place 4th overall in the Friendship Invitational.....team’s top finisher in the NCCAA Championship in 27:23 to end up 61st overall.....G-MAC Academic Team.

2011-12 - Primarily ran the 5,000 meters during the indoor and outdoor seasons.....best outdoor mark was 15:23.52 at Miami.....placed 5th in the NCCAA (15:39.38).....finished 3rd indoors at Youngstown State in 15:25.83.....saw action in six varsity cross country meets as a freshman.....best 8K mark was 27:03 at the Miami Open.....timed in 27:05 at the Friendship Invitational.

High School - Outstanding career at Beaver River High School.....2010 NYSPHAA Class D individual state champion in cross country.....four-year letter winner, who helped school to back-to-back state titles in 2007 and 2008.....four-time All-Sectional Class D team and won the individual crown in 2008 and 2010.....twice named to the All-Central New York Cross Country Team.....four-time Frontier League All-Star.....four-year letter winner in track & field.....three letters in basketball.....National Honor Society student.

Personal - Dean’s Honor List student as a geology major at Cedarville University.....born 11/1/92 in Lowville, NY.....son of Todd and Elizabeth Cheney.....older brother, Brian, ran cross country for the Yellow Jackets in 2008.
