Aker earns spot on PING All-Region Team

NORMAN, Okla. (6-14-2006) - Scott Aker earned a spot on the Golf Coaches Association of America NAIA PING All-Region Team for the 2005-06 season. He was one of 10 golfers named to the North squad which encompasses NAIA Regions 7, 8, 9, and 10.

It was another major award for Aker, a junior who completed his first season as a Yellow Jacket after transferring from nearby Wittenberg University. He was also NAIA All-America honorable mention, an NCCAA All-American, and an NAIA and NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athlete. [GCAA PING ALL-REGION TEAMS]

Aker tabbed NAIA All-America honorable mention

OLATHE, Kansas (5-25-2006) - Scott Aker has been recognized among the top 30 golfers in the NAIA after being named All-America honorable mention for the 2006 season. He is the first Yellow Jacket golfer to ever earn the honor.

Aker, a junior and CU's #1 player after transferring from Wittenberg University, averaged a school-record 73.61 strokes per 18 holes this season. He won or tied for medalist honors in four tournaments while also setting new school scoring marks for 18 holes (67) and 36 holes (140).

Aker is one of just two American Mideast Conference golfers to be so recognized this spring which is more noteworthy by the fact that he missed the season-ending AMC Tournament with an illness. The NAIA names 15 golfers to its All-America team while 15 more are accorded honorable mention. [NAIA ALL-AMERICA TEAM]

Aker named NAIA Scholar-Athlete

OLATHE, Kansas (5-19-2006) - Scott Aker, a junior integrated social studies major from Springfield, Ohio, has been named an NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete for the 2006 season. He is the fourth CU golfer to earn the honor which recognizes juniors and seniors who maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average.

Aker joined the Yellow Jackets as a transfer from Wittenberg University and immediately stepped into the team's #1 spot. He set school records for the lowest 18-hole stroke average for a season (73.61) as well as lowest 18-hole (67) and 36-hole (140) scores. [NAIA ALL-AMERICA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES]

Jackets 8th in NAIA Region IX; Bowman earns All-AMC

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (4-28-2006) - Trevor Bowman earned a spot on the All-American Mideast Conference Team and the shorthanded Yellow Jackets finished the year with an 8th-place finish at the AMC/NAIA Region IX Tournament.

Cedarville was sent reeling when Scott Aker, who set a school record with a 73.61 scoring average this season, came down ill the night before the 54-hole event started and was forced to withdraw. That left the Jackets with only four players who responded with scores of 322-308-311 for a 941 total.

Bowman opened with an 82 on the par-72 Apple Valley Golf Course and then roared back with rounds of 71 and 72 for a total of 225. He tied for 6th overall and was tied for 5th in the conference to garner All-AMC honors. Other CU scores were Brett Bigler, 78-81-78-237; Travis Roach, 84-77-77-238; and Adam Schlappi, 78-79-84-241. Bowen inks Atkeson to letter of intent

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (10-20-2005) - Cedarville University men's golf coach Ryan Bowen has signed Big Walnut (Ohio) High School senior Dan Atkeson to a letter of intent to attend the University and play golf for the Yellow Jackets. He has been a four-year letter winner with the Golden Eagles and will come to CU with an impressive resume' on the links.

Atkeson, who is a two-time All-Ohio Capital Conference First Team selection, averaged 74 strokes per 18 holes in 2005 with six medalist honors. He carded a school-record 67 as a sophomore at the Apple Valley Golf Club, which ironically is the course where CU plays in the annual NAIA Region IX Tournament. Atkeson was a member of Big Walnut's 2002 Ohio Division II state championship team and is a two-time Player of the Year in the Heart-of-Ohio Junior Golf series.

Jackets tee off season at Tiffin

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (9-9-2005) - Cedarville University gets the 2005-06 golf season underway at the Kyle Ryman Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by Tiffin University. The 36-hole event will be played at the Mohawk Country Club. Head coach Ryan Bowen welcomes back three of his top four players from last year, a quality transfer, and a solid crop of freshmen.

Adam Schlappi broke 80 in all 17 rounds of the 2004-05 campaign. His 75.8 average was the third-lowest for a single season in CU golf history. Schlappi also earned a spot on the American Mideast Conference Team. Brent Martin averaged 81.8 in the #3 spot as a rookie. The lefthander's low round of the year was a 74. Fellow classmate Dan Servi stepped into the line-up and averaged 84.0.

The top newcomer is Wittenberg University transfer Scott Aker, who is from nearby Springfield Shawnee High School. The junior played in the #2 position for the Tigers and averaged 77.8 as a sophomore. However, this past summer he qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links, made the cut with rounds of 73 and 71 at the Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio, and won his first round match to advance to the Round of 32.
