Lady Jackets earn NAIA scholar-team honors

OLATHE, Kansas (6-20-2006) - The Lady Jacket quintet of Olivia Dolph, Jodi Kraker, Laura McCully, Betsy Verwys, and Melinda Workman had a combined 3.67 grade point average to be recognized as an NAIA Scholar-Team. They rated 5th overall trailing fellow American Mideast Conference member Seton Hill PA (3.78), McKendree IL (3.76), Baker KS(3.74), and Biola CA (3.72). Roslyn Sakaguchi (seated left), a native of Broomfield, Colorado and a product of Thornton High School, signed a letter of intent to attend Cedarville University and play tennis for the Lady Jackets. She is seated alongside her father, Ross Sakaguchi, and is joined by CU head women's tennis coach Pam Johnson (left) and assistant coach Dee Morris.

NAIA honors three Lady Jackets

OLATHE, Kansas (5-19-2006) - Senior Jodi Kraker was named to the NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete squad for the second straight time and was joined by juniors Laura McCully and Betsy Verwys. The list includes juniors and seniors who maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average.

Kraker, an exercise science major from Holland, Mich., played four years at CU and had a 12-9 mark at #1 singles this spring. McCully posted an 11-10 record at #3 singles while Verwys was 16-5 in the #5 position. Both players are marketing majors from Grand Rapids, Mich. [NAIA ALL-AMERICA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES]

Kraker, Rutt are NCCAA All-Americans

GREER, S.C. (5-10-2006) - Jodi Kraker and Alisa Rutt have been chosen to the NCCAA All-America Team in both singles and doubles. It's the fourth straight year that Kraker has earned a spot and it's the second season in a row for Rutt.

Kraker, Laura McCully, and Betsy Verwys were named NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athletes. the program honors juniors and seniors who maintain a minimum 3.40 GPA. Rutt and Olivia Dolph were tabbed NCCAA Ministry Athletes. [NCCAA AWARDS]

Lady Jackets grab share of AMC title

NORTH CANTON, Ohio (4-28-2006) - The Lady Jackets clinched a share of the American Mideast Conference South Division championship with a 5-4 victory at Walsh. It was the seventh consecutive win for Cedarville, 13-3 overall and 5-1 AMC, who also gets an automatic berth to the NAIA Region IX Tournament.

The Jackets took immediate command by sweeping the three doubles matches. The #1 tandem of Jodi Kraker and Alisa Rutt held on for a 9-7 decision; #2 Laura McCully and Betsy Verwys recorded an 8-5 win; and #3 Melinda Workman and Olivia Dolph were good for an 8-6 victory.

CU secured the match with a pair of singles wins. Rutt claimed the fifth and deciding point at #2 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. The other came from #3 McCully, 6-2, 6-3. [RESULTS]
