Mike Manes
Mike Manes selected to take over CU baseball program
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (8-14-2007) - Mike Manes, who was able to turn around the baseball program at Trinity International University, has been selected the new head coach at Cedarville University. He takes over for Greg Hughes, who resigned last spring after coaching the Yellow Jackets for eight seasons.
"Mike Manes joins our coaching staff having proven himself at the college level," remarked CU athletic director Pete Reese. "He has demonstrated a commitment to teaching and coaching Christian young men. We are confident he will fit right in with the mission of the University and the athletic department."
Manes (pronounced MAN-us) inherits a Cedarville baseball program that has not had a winning season since the 1990 squad won 18 contests and shared the Mid-Ohio Conference title. His first team at Trinity International, an NAIA school in Chicago, won just four games in 2004 and the school had never qualified for the conference tournament.
Since then, the Trojans have won 25, 28, and 32 games, respectively, which set school records for the most victories in a season each time. The 2006 squad put together TIU's first-ever winning season and the 2007 team finished 32-22.
In his short tenure, Manes guided the Trojans to their first-ever conference tournament appearance, two NCCAA North Central Region championships, and TIU played in the last three NCCAA National Tournaments. He was tabbed the 2005 NCCAA North Central Region Coach of the Year.
"It is exciting to coach at a Christian university," Manes said. "It's great to be part of a young man's life during his four years of college and to see him mature.
"The facilities at Cedarville are outstanding and I truly believe we can put the baseball program at the forefront. I am looking forward to working with these young men."
The Nebraska native previously founded and coached the Lincoln Crusaders which is an American Legion baseball club. In his 11 years at the helm, the team made nine trips to the state tournament winning one championship and finishing as the runner-up on two other occasions.
Manes is a graduate of Liberty University with a master's degree from Almeda University. Mike and his wife, Connie, have four adult children.

Reeder leaves legacy at Cedarville
by Jim Sawin, sports information intern
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (5-17-2007) - Richie Reeder put together a successful baseball career at Cedarville University. Reeder, a senior communications major, finished his career with a lifetime .308 batting average while making 143 starts out of 151 games in four years for the Yellow Jackets. He drove in 72 runs during his tenure at CU with four home runs. The third baseman actually hit five home runs, but had one taken away in his first collegiate at-bat.
"The first time I ever put on a Yellow Jacket uniform, I hit the longest home run of my career," said Reeder. "But here's the funny part - we were playing a two-year college and found out after the game that the stats wouldn't count because they weren't a four-year school. So, I got my first start of my college career, hit a 390 foot home run to left-center field, was awarded the game ball, and then we found out the stats didn't count. Looking back now, it was pretty funny." [FULL STORY]
