Aker, Bowman earn spots on NAIA PING All-Region Team

PLYMOUTH, Ind. (7-9-2007) - Scott Aker and Trevor Bowman have been named to the Golf Coaches Association of America NAIA PING All-Region Team for the 2006-07 season. They were two of 15 golfers named to the North squad which encompasses NAIA Regions 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Bowman, a sophomore from Harpster, Ohio, averaged a team-best 75.62 strokes per 18 holes this season, finished as the NAIA Region IX Tournament runner-up, and was selected to the American Mideast Conference Team. Aker, a senior from Springfield, Ohio, averaged 75.67 and was also an All-AMC choice. [GCAA PING ALL-REGION TEAMS]

Aker repeats as NAIA Scholar-Athlete

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (6-1-2007) - Scott Aker was recognized as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete for the second consecutive year. The program honors juniors and seniors who maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average.

Aker is the fourth Yellow Jacket golfer to earn the honor and the third one to be a repeat selection. He finished his two-year stint at CU as the school's career leader for lowest 18-hole stroke average (74.72). Aker also owns school marks for lowest single season 18-hole average (73.61), lowest 18-hold score (67), and lowest 36-hole score (140). [NAIA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES]

CU finishes 3rd in region; Bowman runner-up

HOWARD, Ohio (5-4-2007) - Trevor Bowman finished as the AMC and NAIA Region IX runner-up, but the Yellow Jackets came up short in a 3rd-place finish in the 12-team tournament. NAIA No. 11 Malone won its fourth straight title with a 54-hole total of 898, No. 18 Tiffin totaled 905, and Cedarville recorded a 907.

Bowman opened with a two-under par 70 and came back with rounds of 73 and 77 for a four-over par total of 220 to place 2nd to earn a spot on the All-AMC Team (top 10 and ties). He was joined on the squad by Scott Aker, who finished his career tied for 9th place at 72-75-78-225. Other CU scores were Matt Krogstad (tie 15th; 80-73-77-230), Adam Schlappi (tie 26th; 80-77-76-233), and Dan Atkeson (tie 39th; 79-80-80-239). [ RESULTS (pdf) - TEAM-BY-TEAM and INDIVIDUAL]

Jackets end drought by winning CU Invite

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (4-24-2007) - Scott Aker and Adam Schlappi each carded three-under par 69's to lead the Yellow Jackets to victory in the 26th Annual Cedarville Invitational. They had not won their own tournament since capturing the trophy in the initial event in 1982.

CU shot 308 in the opening round at Beavercreek Golf Club and then shaved five shots off the school record with a 285 at Country Club of the North for a 593 total. Runner-up Ohio Dominican (312-304-616) was 23 shots off the pace.

Aker fired his fourth sub-70 round as a Yellow Jacket and finished tied for 2nd place at 79-69-148 along with Trevor Bowman, who turned in rounds of 75-73. Schlappi rebounded from an opening-round 82 with his career-best 69 to finish tied for 7th place at 151. His 36-hole score matched that of teammate Dan Atkeson, who shot 77-74. Matt Krogstad tied for 10th place with rounds of 77-77-154. Brendan Ojala paced the Cedarville B squad with back-to-back scores of 79. [ RESULTS (pdf) - TEAM-BY-TEAM and INDIVIDUAL]
