Four Yellow Jackets All-Americans at NAIA Nationals
FRESNO, Cal. (5-26-2007) - Four Yellow Jackets picked up All-America honors at the NAIA Outdoor Championship hosted by Fresno Pacific University where CU placed 10th overall. Oklahoma Baptist won the meet with 77 points while Dickinson State was the runner-up with 58. Cedarville totaled 28 points.
Two Yellow Jackets posted 2nd-place finishes in their respective events. Sophomore Ben Michaud added nearly three feet to his school shot put record. He uncorked a heave of 58-feet 5.25-inches to break his school mark of 55-5.50 set earlier hit season. The other runner-up was freshmen Daniel Roberts, who erased a 20-year old school mark in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:46.19.
Kevin Kuhn was an All-American (top six finishers) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase by placing 4th in 9:11.33. Jim Sawin tied for 4th in the high jump by clearing 6-8.
Elsewhere, Seth Campbell narrowly missed out on the All-America list in the 5,000 meter racewalk after placing 7th in 26:36.15. Ryan Bundenthal was 8th in the 400 meter hurdles in 54.13 seconds and Justin Herbert came in 10th in the marathon in 2:31:49.67.
Christian Maat placed 18th in the hammer with a toss of 162-7 while Neil Henning committed a foul on all three of his attempts. Jud Brooker was 8th in his heat of the 1,500 meters in 3:59.41 and failed to advance. Jason Scott did not clear the opening height in the pole vault. [COMPLETE RESULTS and PHOTO GALLERY]
Malone squeaks by Cedarville for NCCAA title
UPLAND, Ind. (5-5-2007) - Fellow American Mideast Conference member Malone edged the Yellow Jackets by one point for the NCCAA outdoor championship. The Pioneers totaled 127 points while Cedarville, who has not won an outdoor banner since 1984, finished with 126 points.
The Jackets had a trio of individual champions. Jason Scott won his second straight pole vault title and third overall by clearing 17-feet even. Ben Michaud repeated as the shot put champion with a heave of 54-feet 9.50-inches while Kevin Kuhn was a repeat winner in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:32.77.
The top three finishers in each event are recognized as NCCAA All-Americans. Daniel Roberts was the 5K runner-up in 14:56.08 and Justin Herbert placed 2nd in the 10K in 32:37.09. Third-place performances came from Jud Brooker in the 1,500 meters (4:00.98), Ryan Bundenthal in the 400 meter hurdles (54.40), Jim Sawin in the high jump (6-8), Neil Henning in the shot put (50-0.50), and Titus Goodew in the decathlon (5,385 points). Scott wins twice at AMC; Jackets place 3rd
HOUGHTON, N.Y. (4-21-2007) - Jason Scott broke the meet record in the pole vault and also won the 110 meter hurdles at the American Mideast Conference Championship hosted by Houghton College. Tiffin won the nine-team meet with 242 points, Malone was 2nd with 172, and Cedarville was 3rd at 169.
Scott cleared 16-feet 9.25-inches to break the old AMC record (15-6) by more than a foot. His winning time in the 110 meter hurdles was 15.15 seconds and he placed 2nd in the javelin with a toss of 163-4.
Ben Michaud won the shot put with a school-record heave of 55-5.50. The 4 x 800 meter relay squad of Daniel Roberts, Kevin Kuhn, Joshua Saunders, and Kurt Groman set another school mark in 7:49.53 which was good enough for 2nd place.
Roberts won the 1,500 meters in an AMC record time of 3:48.20 to lower his earlier NAIA automatic qualifying mark. Jim Sawin earned the high jump title with an effort of 6-8 and Kuhn won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 9:32.80. Runner-up finishes were posted by Ryan Bundenthal in the 110 meter hurdles (15.26) and by Christian Maat in the hammer (158-4). [COMPLETE RESULTS]

Scotts make for a winning duo

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (4-13-2007) - Jason Scott is once again setting records at Cedarville University. The track and field star recently completed his last indoor season for the Yellow Jackets, repeating as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) individual national champion in the pole vault.
Jason is the only CU track and field athlete to ever win three national championships and is only one of three men to ever win one at the university. The senior captain broke his own school record at the NAIA Indoor National Championships, clearing 17 feet, 8.5 inches for the gold. [FULL STORY]
Roberts wins Witt 800, 5K
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (3-24-2007) - Daniel Roberts posted victories in the 800 and 5,000 meter runs at the Wittenberg Invitational. The freshman was the only Yellow Jacket to win an event in the non-scoring meet.
Roberts covered the 800 meters in 1:55 and then won the 5,000 in 15:11.3. Justin Herbert was 3rd in the 10,000 meters in 33:14. [COMPLETE RESULTS]

Scott repeats as NAIA indoor pole vault champion
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (3-10-2007) - Jason Scott won his second straight NAIA indoor pole vault title with a school- record effort of 17-feet 8.50 inches. He was one of three All-America performances (top 6 finishers) turned in by the Yellow Jackets. Cedarville placed 10th out of 90 schools entered in the meet.
Scott, who is a previous winner of the NAIA outdoor pole vault crown achieved as a freshman in 2004, tacked on two inches to his school record. Ben Michaud set a new school record while finishing 2nd in the shot put with a heave of 57-7. Daniel Roberts established a school record in the mile placing 3rd in 4:10.13.
Elsewhere, the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Jud Brooker, Kevin Kuhn, Kurt Groman, and Joshua Saunders set a school record of 7:53.18 despite failing to advance out of the prelims. Jim Sawin tied for 8th place in the high jump (6-4.75) while Neil Henning was 10th in the shot put (53-0.25) and 18th in the weight throw (49-0.75). Four other athletes competed in the prelims of their respective events. The quartet included Saunders in the 800 meters (1:55.25), Ryan Bundenthal in the 60 meter hurdles (8.45), Sammy Starr in the 400 meters (50.64), and Bryan Pittman in the 3,000 (9:14.21). UPLAND, Ind. (2-24-2007) - Freshman Daniel Roberts was named the Outstanding Male Athlete of the Meet and Cedarville won its second straight title at the NCCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship at Taylor University. The Yellow Jackets finished with 135 points in the 12-team field while Indiana Wesleyan and Greenville tied for 2nd place with 102 points each.
Roberts won the mile run with an NAIA automatic qualifying time of 4:13.48 and also placed first in the 3,000 meters in 8:47.36. Neil Henning was also a double winner for CU. He was victorious in the shot put with a school-record heave of 56-feet 7.50 inches which improved upon his NAIA qualifying mark and then he met the NAIA standard in the weight throw with a winning toss of 52-10.75.
Jim Sawin picked up the Yellow Jackets' other victory by winning the high jump at 6-8. Ben Michaud joined Henning on the All-America list (top 3 finishers) after placing 2nd in the shot put (52-2.25) and 3rd in the weight throw (51-0). The other All-America performance came from Jason Scott, who was 3rd in the long jump at 22-1.50. Scott wins at National Pole Vault Summit
RENO, Nev. (1-20-2007) - Jason Scott soared to a school-record mark of 17-feet 6.50-inches to tie for first place in the college division of the National Pole Vault Summit. He was one of four athletes to clear the height, but tied Scott Roth from the University of Washington for top honors based on misses.
Scott added nearly six inches to his old school record of 17-0.75. He established that mark in winning the 2006 indoor title at the NAIA Championship. [RESULTS]
