Modderman heads CU scholar-athlete list
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (7-5-2007) - Samantha Modderman has been named to the 2006-07 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team in the College Division. The squad is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Modderman, a senior biology major from Walker, Mich., was one of 45 student-athletes in the country to be selected to either the First, Second, or Third Teams. The group consists of sophomores, juniors, and/or seniors who maintain a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average with the College Division made up of NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA institutions.[ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team (pdf)]
Modderman also earned spots on the NAIA Scholar-Athlete and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete teams. She was joined by Sarah Ensslen, a senior psychology major from Glenmoore, Pa.; Emily Peacock, a senior psychology/criminal justice double major from Falling Waters, W.Va.; and Bonnie Wright, a senior early childhood special education major from Royal Oak, Mich. FRESNO, Cal. (5-26-2007) - Sarah Ensslen tied the school record with an effort of 42-feet even to win the triple jump at the NAIA Outdoor Championship and the Lady Jackets finished as the national runner-up. Azusa Pacific (Cal.) won the meet with 73 points, Cedarville tallied 58, and Oklahoma Baptist had 55 points.

Ensslen, who copped the NAIA indoor title in March, equaled the school record of NAIA Hall of Famer and two-time champion Stephanie Sherman Forrest (1992, 1995). And like Forrest, she pulled off the 42-foot effort in the final jump of her career.
Samantha Modderman and Nicole Santos were both All-Americans (top six finishers) in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs. They began with the 10K on opening night where Modderman was 3rd (36:27.81) and Santos was 4th (36:44.40). In the 5K final on Day Three, Modderman was 4th (17:46.49) and Santos was 5th (17:49.18).
Courtney Reid tied the school in the 400 meter hurdles placing 3rd in 1:01.83 while Bethany Davies was 6th in 1:03.40. Keri Hilty was the 800 meter runner-up with a time of 2:10.96 and Elisabeth Pyles repeated as an All-American in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 11:07.04 which finished 5th. Rounding out the All-America list were Davies, Hilty, Reid, and Marla Rice, who placed 5th in the 4 x 400 meter final in 3:49.52. They set a new school record during the semifinals in 3:49.14.
Elsewhere, Reid finished 7th in the 100 meter hurdles final (14.74), Christina Reyes placed 8th in the 800 meters (2:15.24), and Lydia Wong was 10th in the 1,500 (4:44.48). Tara Leaman came in 9th in the javelin (133-6) and she was 23rd in the discus (116-10). [COMPLETE RESULTS and PHOTO GALLERY]

Ensslen has a passion to serve beyond the track

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (5-23-2007) - Sarah Ensslen is a dedicated track and field athlete whose hard work has paid dividends, especially during her final campaign as a Cedarville University Lady Jacket. The senior psychology major became only the fourth woman in CU track and field history to win an NAIA national title at the 2007 Indoor Championships on March 10. Ensslen, who has served as a team captain since her sophomore year, was victorious in the triple jump with a career-best leap of 40 feet, 4 inches, leading the Jackets to an all-time best 6th place finish overall at the national meet. Reid breaks hurdles record in CU Qualifier
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (5-11-2007) - Courtney Reid broke her own school record in the 100 meter hurdles at the Cedarville Qualifier with a winning time of 14.61 seconds. She set the old mark of 14.75 earlier this season.
Lydia Wong posted a victory in the 800 meters in 2:14.47 and Christina Reyes was 2nd in 2:15.97. Both athletes met the NAIA automatic qualifying mark.
Tara Leaman won the javelin with a heave of 129-feet 8-inches and Samantha Modderman was 2nd in the 3,000 meters in 10:04.23. Third-place performances were turned in by Reid in the 200 meter dash (25.24), Marla Rice in the 400 meters (1:00.59), Melissa Wysong in the 1,500 meters (4:56.62), Nicole Santos in the 3,000 meters (10:20.95), and Lindsay Stone in the javelin (115-11). Lady Jackets win first NCCAA banner since 1998

UPLAND, Ind. (5-5-2007) - The Lady Jackets posted seven first-place finishes and earned the NCCAA Outdoor Championship banner at Taylor University. It was the eighth title for the CU women, but the first since 1998 which completed a string of five consecutive championships. The Jackets, who are the 2006 and 2007 NCCAA indoor champs, had 177 points and runner-up Malone tallied 163.5.
Courtney Reid was a double winner by taking the 100 meter hurdles for the second straight year with a time of 15.01 seconds. She also won the 400 meter hurdles with an NAIA automatic qualifying time of 1:02.04. Sarah Ensslen registered her third consecutive triple jump victory with a leap of 39-feet 11.50-inches while Elisabeth Pyles repeated as the 3,000 meter steeplechase champion in 11:08.94. Other wins came from Tara Leaman in the javelin (133-3) as well as the 4 x 100 meter relay squad of Ensslen, Reid, Bethany Davies, and Marla Rice in a school-record time of 48.53 seconds which met the NAIA automatic qualifying standard. The 4 x 400 meter relay unit of Reid, Keri Hilty, Rice ,and Davies was also a winner with a new school mark of 3:51.23.
The Yellow Jackets registered 10 other All-America performances (top 3 finishes). Runner-up showings came from Ensslen in the long jump (18-4.50), Hilty in the 800 meters with an NAIA automatic qualifying mark (2:13.25), Davies in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.63), Nicole Santos in the 10K (36:40.29). Third-place marks were recorded by Pyles in the 5K (18:09.12), Leaman in the discus (136-0), Emily Peacock in the hammer (142-7), Stephanie Graff in the steeplechase (11:48.98), Samantha Modderman in the 10K (37:27.28), and Christina Reyes in the 1,500 meters (4:48.20). Lady Jackets win AMC Championship
HOUGHTON, N.Y. (4-21-2007) - Sarah Ensslen was named the Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet to lead the Lady Jackets to the American Mideast Conference Championship at Houghton College. Jeff Bolender was tabbed AMC Women's Coach of the Year as Cedarville copped its first conference title since 1998. CU totaled 230.5 points to outscore three-time defending champion Malone, who had 195.5.
Ensslen set a new AMC record in winning the triple jump at 40-feet 4-inches. She also won the long jump (18-5) and high jump (5-3.75). Another AMC mark was established by Samantha (Maat) Modderman in the 10,000 meters with a time of 37:27.17. She later won the 5K in 17:52.15.
The Lady Jackets posted four other individual first-place finishes. Heading that list was Courtney Reid, who won the 100 meter hurdles in a school-record time of 14.75 seconds which automatically qualified her for the NAIA Championship. Elisabeth Pyles qualified in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a winning time of 11:22.65. Other wins came from Keri Hilty in the 800 meters (2:18.33) and Lydia Wong in the 1,500 (4:48.57).
The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Marla Rice, Reid, Hilty, and Bethany Davies broke the AMC record with a winning time of 3:56.44. The victorious 4 x 800 unit of Hilty, Davies, Wong, and Christina Reyes was clocked in 9:15.77 for an automatic NAIA qualifying spot. Elsewhere, Reid was an NAIA qualifier in the 400 meter hurdles (2nd; 1:03.99) as was Davies (3rd; 1:04.43). Other school records were set by Davies in the 400 meters (2nd; 57.13) and by Tara Leaman in the javelin (2nd; 135-2). [COMPLETE RESULTS]

Ensslen leads CU All-America list by winning NAIA triple jump
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (3-10-2007) - Sarah Ensslen paced a group of nine Lady Jackets who achieved NAIA All-America honors by winning the triple jump title. She posted a career-best effort of 40-feet 4-inches for Cedarville, who placed 6th as a team out of 77 schools.
Samantha (Maat) Modderman finished 2nd in the 3,000 meters with a school-record time of 9:59.39. Other All-Americans (top 6 finishers) included the 4 x 800 meter relay squad of Keri Hilty, Bethany Davies, Lydia Wong, and Christina Reyes that set a school record of 9:12.94 to place 3rd. Wong was 3rd in the mile with a school-record effort (5:04.75), Hilty was 6th in the 600 meters (1:36.70), Sarah Peak was 5th in the 3,000 meter race walk (17:21.75), Nicole Santos was 5th in the 5,000 (17:59.53), and Courtney Reid was 6th in the 60 meter hurdles (9.06). Reid earlier broke the school record in the prelims with a time of 8.99 seconds.
Elsewhere, Elisabeth Pyles was 12th in the 3,000 meters in 10:43.41 and Emily Peacock was 13th in the weight throw with a toss of 48-4. Athletes who failed to advance out of the prelims were Reid in the 200 meters (26.02), Davies in the 400 (58.40), and the distance medley relay unit of Reyes, Audree Goodew, Marla Rice, and Stacey Keller (12:35.35). UPLAND, Ind. (2-24-2007) - Sarah Ensslen and Courtney Reid each won two events and the Lady Jackets repeated as NCCAA Indoor Track & Field champions at Taylor University. Cedarville piled up 157 points to easily outscore the rest of the 13-team field. Greenville was the runner-up with 105 points and Olivet Nazarene tallied 101.
The Lady Jackets had 15 All-America performances (top 3 finishers) in all. Reid won the 200 meter dash with a school-record effort of 25.97 seconds which met the NAIA automatic qualifying standard. She also won the 55 meter hurdles in 8.49 seconds. Ensslen took top honors in both the long jump (18-feet 1-inch), which qualified her for the NAIA, and triple jump (38-5).
Bethany Davies won the 400 meters with a school record time of 59.19 seconds to nip teammate Keri Hilty, who finished in 59.30. Both athletes improved upon their NAIA qualifying mark. CU's remaining victory came from Samantha (Maat) Modderman in the 5,000 meters in 17:40.63.
Modderman was 2nd in the 3,000 meters in 10:16.30 and Elisabeth Pyles was 3rd in 10:26.46 to automatically qualify for the NAIA Nationals. Other All-Americans were Emily Peacock in the weight throw (2nd; 49-4.50), Nicole Santos in the 5,000 meters (3rd; 17:52.10), Bonnie Wright in the long jump (3rd; 17-8), and Lydia Wong in both the mile (3rd; 5:07.25) and 800 meters (3rd; 2:18.95).
