Brooker part of world record

Cedarville track & field alum Jane Romig Brooker '86 (second from right) helped set a new world record in the Masters 4 x 400 meter relay at the 2008 Penn Relays.
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - NAIA Hall of Famer and former Lady Jacket track standout Jane Romig Brooker was part of a world record performance at the 2008 Penn Relays. She joined three other women to set a new mark in the Masters 4 x 400 meter relay of 3:56.27. [SEE CENTRE DAILY TIMES STORY]
Brooker, a 1986 Cedarville grad, was the first track & field female to ever be inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame. She was a two-time NAIA champion in the indoor 1,000 yards and was the Outstanding Performer of the Meet at the 1986 NAIA Indoor Championship.
Winik signs with Lady Jackets

Alexa Winik (second from right), a native of Windsor, Ontario, has signed a letter of intent to attend Cedarville University and compete in the Lady Jacket track & field program. An accomplished sprinter from Maranatha Christian Academy, she has posted times of 12.29 seconds in the 100 meters, 24.86 in the 200, and 56.39 in the 400. Alexa is seated between her parents, Tricia and Joe Winik, and is also joined by CU head coach Jeff Bolender (left).
Merritt coming to Cedarville

Lucasville, Ohio product Courtnie Merritt is seated between her parents, Ralph and Joyce Merritt, after signing a letter of intent to continue her track & field career at Cedarville University. She earned All-Ohio recognition in both the high jump and long jump during her prep career. Representing Valley High School (standing from left-to-right) are assistant track & field coach Andy Hall, assistant coach Don Venturino, head coach Ellen Shope, assistant coach Jason Dunham, and athletic director Darren Crabtree.
Cann signs with Cedarville

Worthington (Ohio) Kilbourne High School produce Carolyn Cann (left) signs a letter of intent to attend Cedarville University to continue her distance running career with the Lady Jackets. She is joined by her mother, Mary Cann, and CU head cross country coach Elvin King. Carolyn, who is the daughter of Bruce and Mary Cann of Columbus, is a two-time All-District and All-Ohio Capital Conference First Team performer in cross country. She was also the district runner-up on the track in the 800 meters as a senior.

Eight All-Americans shine at NAIA
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (5-24-2008) - Sarah Ensslen, Courtney Reid, and Bethany Davies paced the Lady Jackets' All-America showing at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Cedarville totaled 36 points to place 7th out of 95 competing institutions.
Ensslen, last year's NAIA indoor and outdoor triple jump champion, finished 2nd this time with a mark of 40-feet 6.25-inches. She completed her career as a five-time All-American in the event.
Reid was 4th in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:02.12 and Davies placed 5th in the 800 in 2:11.83. The top six finishers in each event are recognized as All-Americans. Reid and Davies joined Mandy Montzka and Marla Rice in the 4 x 400 meter relay to finish 5th in 3:53.03.
Elisabeth Pyles earned All-America honors in the 3,000 meter steeplechase for the third straight time by placing 4th in 10:49.86. Brittany Simpson finished 5th in the 5,000 meters in 17:31.54. Lydia Wong was 5th in the 1,500 in a school-record time of 4:32.15 which broke the oldest CU record on the books of 4:37.44 set by NAIA Hall of Famer Jane Romig in 1985.
Elsewhere, Reid was 8th in the 100 meter hurdles in 15.47 and Nicole Santos was 8th in the 10,000 meters in 36:52.03. Emily Flores was 22nd in the pole vault (10-4) while Tara Leaman was 18th in the javelin (115-11) and 26th in the discus (123-5). [RESULTS - PHOTO GALLERY by Matt Franz]

Simpson qualifies for NAIA 1,500
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (5-9-2008) - Brittany Simpson won the 1,500 meters and was one of six Lady Jackets to post victories at the Cedarville Outdoor Challenge. The meet was non-scoring.
Simpson covered the 1,500 in 4:40.44 and met the NAIA automatic qualifying standard in the event. Sarah Ensslen won the triple jump with a leap of 41-feet 1-inch and Tara Leaman won the javelin with a heave of 132-6.
Elsewhere on the track, Lydia Wong was a winner in the 800 in 2:12.20. Bethany Davies won the 400 meters in 56.96 seconds and Marla Rice was second in 59.74. Courtney Reid crossed the line first in the 100 meter hurdles (14.91) and was second in both the 100 (12.95) and 200 (27.35) meter dashes. [RESULTS]

Ensslen is NCCAA Outstanding Performer
MARION, Ind. (5-3-2008) - Sarah Ensslen set a school and meet record, won three events, and tied for second in another while being voted the Outstanding Performer of the Meet at the NCCAA Outdoor Championship. The Lady Jackets finished as the runner-up out of 14 schools.
Ensslen won the long jump with a school and meet record effort of 19-feet 6-inches. She claimed her fourth triple jump title at 40-10.50 and tied for 2nd in the high jump at 5-3. Ensslen was also part of the winning 4 x 100 meter relay unit with Bethany Davies, younger sister Johanna Ensslen, and Mandy Montzka in 48.53.
Courtney Reid won her third straight 100 meter hurdles title with a school and meet record time of 14.44 seconds. She repeated as the 400 meter hurdles champion in 1:02.53 and joined Davies, Johanna Ensslen, and Montzka to win the 4 x 400 meter relay in 4:00.24.
Elisabeth Pyles copped the 3,000 meter steeplechase for the third straight time in 11:06.96. Davies was a winner in the 800 meters in 2:14.89.
Other All-Americans (top three finishers) included Lydia Wong in the 800 (2nd; 2:15.67) and 1,500 (2nd; 4:39.11); Brittany Simpson in the 5,000 (2nd; 17:56.56) and 1,500 (3rd; 4:45.31); Nicole Santos in the 10,000 (2nd; 38:06.15) and 5,000 (3rd; 17:59.07); and Tara Leaman in the javelin (2nd; 131-2).
Malone won the team banner with 158 points while Cedarville tallied 152. Host Indiana Wesleyan was 3rd with 126 points. [RESULTS - PHOTO GALLERY by Matt Franz]

Sarah Ensslen was the Outstanding Field Performer at the AMC Championship.
CANTON, Ohio (4-19-2008) - Sarah Ensslen set two AMC records and was named the Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet as Cedarville repeated as American Mideast Conference champions. She was one of five Lady Jackets to win two individual events and Jeff Bolender was voted the AMC Coach of the Year.
Ensslen won the triple jump with a mark of 40-feet 10.25-inches and took the long jump title at 18-8.50. Both were new meet records. She was also part of the 4 x 100 meter relay unit along with Bethany Davies, Courtney Reid, and Marla Rice that finished 2nd in a school-record time of 48.52 seconds that met the automatic NAIA qualifying standard.
Reid won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.86 seconds and the 400 meter hurdles in 1:04.21. Her time of 14.82 in the 100 meter hurdle prelims qualified her for the NAIA. Tara Leaman was an automatic qualifier in the javelin with her winning heave of 134-1. She also won the discus at 136-2.
Elisabeth Pyles won both the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:17.85) and the 5,000 meters (17:57.73). Lydia Wong was victorious in the 800 (2:15.51) and 1,500 (4:50.63). Davies set a new school record in winning the 400 meters in 56.95 seconds. She teamed up with Wong, Rice, and Brittany Simpson to win the 4 x 800 meter relay with an NAIA automatic qualifying time of 9:33.80.
Cedarville totaled 214.33 points to edge host Malone by three points. Notre Dame College was third in the eight-team field with 138 points while Walsh had 111. [RESULTS - PHOTO GALLERY by Matt Franz]

CU has six All-Americans; ties for 6th at NAIA
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (3-8-2008) - Bethany Davies, Keri Hilty, and Courtney Reid earned All-America recognition in two events each and three other Lady Jackets were honored as well at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship. Cedarville tied for 6th place as a team.
The top six finishers in each event are All-Americans and Davies finished 3rd in the 600 meters in 1:34.04 while Hilty was 5th in 1:35.50. Reid placed 5th in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.10 seconds. The trio teamed up with freshman Mandy Montzka to finish 3rd in the 4 x 400 meter relay in a school-record time of 3:49.75.
Lydia Wong broke her own school record in the mile with a runner-up mark of 4:54.79. Nicole Santos was CU's other All-American finishing 5th in the 5,000 meters in 17:47.34.
Elsewhere, Elisabeth Pyles was 7th in the 5K in 17:54.34 and Emily Flores ended up 13th in the pole vault by clearing 10-feet 11.75-inches. Montzka was 6th in her prelim heat of the 400 meters in 1:00.14 and Stacey Keller placed 6th in her heat of the mile in 5:18.42.
Wayland Baptist (Tex.) won the team championship with 71 points to nip runner-up Azusa Pacific (Calif.), 70. Simon Fraser (B.C.) totaled 59 points and was followed by Oklahoma Baptist, 47; Black Hills State (S.D.), 35; and Cedarville and McKendree (Ill.) tied with 26 points each.
