NCCAA tennis award winners announced
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (5-8-2003) - A total of 30 student-athletes, 16 in the women's division and 14 in the men's, have been named NCCAA All-Americans in tennis for the 2003 season. The group was recognized for their efforts in singles and/or doubles.

Cedarville University swept the Sportsmanship Awards with junior Carrie Hartman receiving the women's award and junior Dave Dice repeating as the men's recipient. They were selected in voting by the national tournament coaches.

Terry Porter of women's champion Indiana Wesleyan was tabbed NCCAA Women's Coach of the Year while Barry Quinn, who guided North Greenville to a repeat title in the men's division, was named NCCAA Men's Coach of the Year.

Indiana Wesleyan, North Greenville win NCCAA tennis banners
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (5-7-2003) - Indiana Wesleyan's women and North Greenville's men claimed the NCCAA tennis championship banners. IWU won the women's title with a 5-4 victory over North Greenville. The two school's also met in the men's final with NGC defending their championship, 5-4.

The women's match was the only outcome throughout the tournament in either division where the lower seeded team won. Indiana Wesleyan was seeded #2 while North Greenville was #1. Both squads were 4-0 prior to the match. Both men's teams were also 4-0, but the higher-seeded Crusaders pulled out the victory.

NCCAA All-Americans and Sportsmanship Award winners will be announced on Thursday.

Cedarville University hosts NCCAA Tennis Championships
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) will hold its 2003 National Tennis Championships for both men and women at the Cedarville University Tennis Complex on May 5-7, 2003.

The tournament, featuring six women's team and six men's teams, will include approximately 100 student-athletes from NCCAA colleges and universities across the country during the four-day event. Besides both teams from host Cedarville University, the field includes North Greenville College (Tigerville, SC), who is the defending men's and women's champion.

Other participants for the men's and women's sides are Indiana Wesleyan University (Marion, IN); Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, IL); and Piedmont College (Demorest, GA). Spring Arbor University's (Spring Arbor, MI) men and Bethel College's (Mishawaka, IN) women will also compete for their respective titles.

"We cannot express enough gratitude to Dr. Paul Dixon, Pete Reese, Dr. Pam Johnson, Mark Womack and the entire physical education staff at Cedarville University," said Dan Wood, Executive Director of NCCAA. "Their commitment to the NCCAA, these tournaments and Christian higher education make a tremendous impact on student-athletes from across the country."

Cedarville has been active over the years in hosting NCCAA championships in women's basketball, cross country, track & field, women's volleyball, and wrestling. The Lady Jacket cross country team is the two-time defending NCCAA champion and they also won the banner in 1985, 1991 and 1996. Cedarville has also won NCCAA national titles in men's cross country and men's and women's track and field.

The tennis championships will begin on Sunday, May 4 with student-athletes participating in community outreach in the Cedarville area. A buffet dinner and praise service will also be held on Sunday with an emphasis on missions outreach through athletics. Racquets swing into action at 8:00 a.m. (Eastern) on Monday, May 5 then continue through Wednesday. Student-athletes and coaches will be recognized for outstanding achievements immediately following the event.

Formerly headquartered in Marion, IN, the National Christian College Athletic Association relocated to Greenville, SC in 2000. The NCCAA is a non-profit organization of 112 Christ-centered colleges and universities with a mission of using athletic competition as an integral component of education, evangelism and encouragement.
