Malone, Greenville hold on to win NCCAA banners
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (5-5-2001) -- Malone College won their third straight women's banner at the NCCAA Track & Field Championships while Greenville College won the men's title for the first time ever. It was the 21st annual event for women and the 29th annual for the men with Cedarville University serving as host.

The Pioneer women racked up 188 points which was good enough to claim their sixth title overall. Runner-up Cedarville tallied 170 points, Bethel was third with 85 points, and Spring Arbor was fourth with 80.

The win helped Malone to sweep two awards. Charlie Grimes was voted NCCAA Women's Coach of the Year and Tanya McQueen was named the meet's Outstanding Performer after winning the heptathlon and triple jump. She also placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles, fifth in the long jump, and sixth in the high jump.

Greenville had 173 points to win the men's division. Malone was next with 133 points and was followed by six-time defending champion Taylor, who had 127, and host Cedarville, who finished with 122.5. Greenville's Brian Patton was voted NCCAA Men's Coach of the Year while Malone's Daniel Kibungei, who posted wins in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs, was selected the meet's Outstanding Performer.

Greenville athletes sweep Wheeler Awards
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (5-5-2001) -- Greenville's Amy Ferrell and Jeff Boele were winners of the prestigious Wheeler Awards. It's the 18th consecutive year the awards have been presented and the first time that Greenville has won either one.

Ferrell is a senior Special Education and Elementary Education major from McPherson, KS. She placed second in the women's 10,000 meters and was eighth in the 5,000.

Greenville head coach Brian Patton states, "Amy's strengths are her character and her involvement and influence on others in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is a member of Elpinece, a Christian women's service organization, she is a young girls' Sunday School teacher, and has provided respite care for persons with disabilities. Amy has a sincere and active faith that shows itself every day."

Boele (pronounced bo-LAY), a senior English Education major from Greenville, IL, finished third in both the men's 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs. Patton says, "Jeff is a young man of high character, who does not compromise on issues of morality. He has been a student body vice-president, Sunday School teacher, and served as sports editor of the school newspaper. He was a student mentor with our AEC Center and even taught a climbing class while a student. Jeff is a born again believer, who daily tries to live his faith"
