Late goals doom Lady Jackets

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Notre Dame ended Cedarville's long shutout streak late in regulation and then netted the winner deep into overtime for a 2-1 American Mideast Conference win.

The Lady Jackets, who entered the match with a four-match winning string all via shutout, had not allowed a goal in 450 minutes until NDC erased a 1-0 deficit in the 76th minute. It appeared the two teams would settle for a tie, but the Falcons made the most of a loose ball in the box for the winning score with just 1:40 to go in the second overtime.

Cedarville, 5-4 overall and 3-1 AMC, got on the board early in the annual Homecoming match. Kelsey Watkins collected a punt from keeper Alysia Bennett and lobbed it into the net in the 8th minute. It was her team-high fifth goal of the campaign.

Notre Dame, 5-5 and 2-2 AMC, was outshot 18-16 overall, but they had the advantage in shots on goal, 8-4. The Jackets were whistled for more fouls, 24-14, but the visitors were shown two yellow cards. [STATS]
