CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville University head baseball coach Mike Manes recently signed three recruits from Heritage Christian High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Manes has landed twin brothers David and Ryan Ledbetter as well as Cameron McWilliams from the defending Indiana State 2A Champion Eagles. The baseball standouts will further their education at Cedarville and join the Yellow Jackets for the 2011 season.
The Ledbetter brothers transferred to Heritage Christian for their junior year and made an immediate impact on the program. The pair played an important role in the Eagles winning the 2009 Indiana Division 2A State Championship. David, playing primarily in left field and third base, batted .373 with 15 doubles, 10 runs batted in and 13 runs scored. Ryan, a shortstop, produced an identical .373 batting mark to go with 19 RBI's and 26 runs scored.
Coach Manes is anxious for the two to begin their CU baseball careers. "David and Ryan are highly competitive athletes and should make us a better team. What impressed me most is when they take the ball on the pitching mound," noted Manes. " They both have fast balls that hit the upper 80's and they can throw excellent off-speed pitches as well."
David and Ryan combined for six wins last season in over 70 innings on the mound. They posted 94 strikeouts while allowing 43 walks and 35 earned runs.
David and Ryan are the sons of Ronnie and Sherrie Ledbetter of Fishers, Indiana.
Cameron McWilliams is noted as one of the best outfielders in the Indianapolis area. He
has been a starter since his sophomore year and batted in the lead-off position for the Heritage Christian squad that captured the 2009 Indiana High School Division 2A State Championship.
McWilliams, who was named to the Indianapolis All-City First Team as a junior, combines speed and instinct for excellent coverage in the outfield. He has a .377 batting average in his two varsity seasons to go with 24 runs batted in and 41 runs scored. McWilliams has stolen 25 bases in 27 attempts during his high school career.
Cameron, who plans to major in Criminal Justice, is the son of James and Debra McWilliams of Carmel, Indiana.
