CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Head Coach Kirk Martin has added an important recruit to the 2009-10 Cedarville University women's basketball team. Danielle Spiliotis has signed a letter of intent to attend Cedarville and join the Lady Jacket program. Spiliotis is a senior at The Stony Brook School in Stony Brook, New York.
The 6-foot-1 forward averaged 22 points per game this season while leading her high school team to the 2008-09 League VIII championship behind a perfect 8-0 conference mark. Spiliotis' high school squad advanced to the Final Four of the New York State Class D Tournament. She ended her career with 1,496 points.
Spiliotis transferred to The Stony Brook School following her sophomore year at Port Jefferson High School where she was a member of the varsity squad since the eighth grade. She is a two-time All-Suffolk County performer and a five-time all-league selection. Spiliotis was also a member of the New York State Sports Writers Association All-State Team.
Cedarville University head coach Kirk Martin acknowledged the significance of Spiliotis joining the Lady Jacket basketball program. “This is a big day for us. We were impressed with the fact that not only can she drop a three but that she has the skill to put the ball in the basket. I believe she can come in and help us immediately.”
Spiliotis, who was also recruited by Canisius College, Rider University and New Jersey Technical College, shared her thoughts on why she chose Cedarville. “I wanted to go to a Christian school because of the environment. Being at a Christian school was a big difference. I want to major in sports ministry.”
Coach Martin echoed the thoughts of his prized recruit. “I think Danielle fits our institution nicely where she can use basketball to talk about her faith. The bonus is she will help us compete and win games.”
Danielle is the daughter of Steve and Anne Marie Spiliotis of Port Jefferson, New York.
