MASON, Ohio - David Convertini crushed a three-run homer and #6 seed Cedarville withstood a late rally from #7 Oklahoma Wesleyan for an 8-5 victory in an elimination game at the NCCAA National Tournament at Prasco Park.
Convertini staked the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 lead in the first inning by drilling a shot over the 15-foot batters' eye in dead center field, 395 feet from home plate. Nathan Davenport unloaded a solo shot in the 3rd inning for his team-leading sixth home run of the season.
Cedarville, 31-27, appeared to have a comfortable 8-1 lead after Alex Beelen delivered a two-run triple in the bottom of the 6th and he scored when the throw went into the dugout. However, the Eagles rallied for four runs in their final at bat to make it close.
Winning pitcher Matthew Willett improved to 7-6 with four strikeouts. Colby Stoltzfus got the final out to record the save.
Convertini finished 3-for-4 with three runs batted in while Beelen was 3-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Jordan Shumaker added two hits and two runs. Oklahoma Wesleyan ends the season 29-26. [BOXSCORE]
