CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Dr. Alan Geist, athletic director at Cedarville University, has announced a new athletic logo for the Yellow Jackets.
The logo was officially unveiled in late April to the student body during chapel by University president Dr. Bill Brown. The unique design, only to be used by the Athletic Department, is a first for the Yellow Jackets' program that dates back more than 100 years.
"The unveiling of the logo truly is a historic moment at Cedarville University and is the culmination of a long process," Geist remarked. "I am excited that we finally have an identifiable mark that is exclusive to Yellow Jacket athletics.
"The branding plan will touch every aspect of the program and may take a few years to implement, but it will make us even more recognizable to our fans and opponents alike."
The two-plus year project was originally initiated by former athletic director
Pete Reese and taken over by Geist when he assumed the post last summer. Element Design was contracted to do the work on the athletic logo while also designing the new University logo. Ironically, the lead designer was Jeremy Slagle, son of former CU head men's basketball coach Ray Slagle.
Janice Supplee, vice president for Enrollment Management and Marketing, oversaw both logo projects with the help of Chad Jackson, creative director for Creative Services. Both logos were reviewed by the administrative council for their affirmation as well.
"I definitely want to thank Janice, Chad, and especially, Jeremy, for their involvement in the creation of the athletic logo," said Geist. "They certainly put much time and effort into the process."
The Cedarville University athletic brand will eventually touch every aspect of Yellow Jacket athletics. Over the course of time, it will be visible on the web, all uniforms, scoreboards, athletic facilities, apparel, and printed materials.
