CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Coach
Wes Rowe of the Cedarville University women's softball team has announced the signing of St. Marys Memorial High School (OH) senior Kayla Thornsberry.
Thornsberry brings an impressive list of accomplishments to the CU softball program. She earned All-Ohio First Team honors as a sophomore and was the Western Buckeye League Player of the Year in 2007. Thornsberry holds many single-season school records at St. Marys including most wins (23), lowest ERA (0.51), most strikeouts (192) and most shutouts (14). Entering the 2009 season, she had posted five career no-hitters.
As a sophomore, Thornsberry pitched her high school squad to an undefeated Western Buckeye League title, a sectional, district and regional championship, and a runner-up finish in the Ohio Division II State Tournament.
Coach Rowe notes the talent and abilities that Thornsberry will bring to the Lady Jackets. “Kayla Thornsberry has been very successful in high school with many great accomplishments. She is a very good pitcher who throws hard and she plays the game with passion. Kayla loves to have fun, has a very friendly personality and is going to help raise our program to another level.”
Kayla, who plans on majoring in middle childhood education, is the daughter of Jeff and Mary Ann Thornsberry of St. Marys, Ohio.
