CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Former Yellow Jacket golfer Trevor Bowman has qualified for the 2009 U.S. Amateur Championship which will be played at the historic Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. on Aug. 24-30.
Bowman, a two-time NAIA All-American prior to his graduation from Cedarville University in May, earned a spot by placing second in sectional qualifying at the Marion Country Club in Marion, Ohio on Aug. 3-4. He turned in rounds of 75-67 to finish at even par 142.
Bowman's final round was the lowest 18-hole score by two shots in the tournament. Only the top two finishers in the 39-player field were automatic qualifiers.
A total of 312 players will head off to Tulsa for 36 holes of stroke play after which the field will be trimmed to the low 64 players to compete in match play. Southern Hills has hosted 14 major championships and last welcomed the U.S. Amateur in 1965.

Earlier in the summer, Bowman qualified for the 2009 U.S. Amateur Public Links. The national event was played in Norman, Okla. on July 13-18.
Bowman won the Findlay, Ohio sectional by four shots with a 141 total at the Red Hawk Run Golf Club. He failed to make the cut at the championship following scores of 81-79.
