NAIA rally comes up short for Cedarville

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - No. 10 seed Eastern Oregon built a big lead in the second half and then withstood a furious Yellow Jacket comeback for an 82-74 win in the first round of the 20th Annual NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship.

The Mountaineers' high-octane offense was as advertized as they sprinted to a 29-13 lead at the College of the Ozarks' Keeter Gymnasium. Cedarville answered with 13 straight points, but EOU regained the momentum for a 43-31 margin at the break.

Eastern Oregon scored the first eight points of the second half and an apparent rout was on when the scoreboard blinked 60-39. The Jackets responded with an 18-3 uprising and even got as close as 76-72 in the final seconds before running out of time.

Derrick Hannon closed out with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds for Cedarville, who finishes with a final record of 20-13. Brian Hecker came off the bench with 14 points, Brian Grant netted 11, and Matt Harner and Austin Foote netted 10 points each.

The Jackets hit 10-of-21 three pointers in the game which helped them get back in it. Both teams were credited with 34 rebounds.

Eastern Oregon, who added 12 three-pointers to what is already a single-season school record total, advance with a record to 26-6.
