Box Score OWENSBORO, Ky. - Defending champion and #2 seed Cedarville stunned #3 Alderson Broaddus with an impressive comeback for a four-set victory in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal match.
The Lady Jackets defeated AB for the third time in three meetings this year 25-21, 17-25, 25-18, 25-21.
Cedarville, 22-14, attempts to repeat as champion by facing host and #1 seed Kentucky Wesleyan in Saturday's final at 2:00 p.m. EST.
It appeared the semifinal tilt would go five sets when the Battlers sprinted to leads of 9-2 and 13-4 in the fourth.
However, CU never trailed again after going off on a 13-2 run with the help of three kills each by
Abby Shelton and
Tori Thompson.
Amanda Bell finished off the match with another kill.
"This was a great win tonight over a nice Alderson Broaddus team," stated Head Coach
Doug Walters. "The old adage about being tough to beat a team three times in one year is definitely accurate. However, this team did not quit, and we kept the fight going.
"AB was doing a pretty nice job blocking our pin hitters, so we made an adjustment to start attacking out of the middle more. This worked which opened our pins back up and enabled us to make a run to close it out. Great work by our setters in executing the game plan. Looking forward to another showdown with KWC tomorrow for the title."
