CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville University head men's tennis coach
Alan Edlund has announced the addition of Iowa prep standout Ryan Shomo for the 2013-14 season. Shomo recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Cedarville and join the Yellow Jacket tennis program.
Shomo, a four-year varsity stalwart at Marshalltown High School in Marshalltown, Iowa, placed sixth in singles during the recent Iowa Class 2A State Tournament. He played #1 singles for the last two seasons of his high school career and was a 2011 state tournament doubles qualifier.
Shomo has fine-tuned his game by competing in United States Tennis Association (USTA) tournaments and taking private lessons. A steady schedule against top players has accelerated Shomo's readiness for the college game and with added power and strength, he is hoping for a top-six singles spot in his freshman season at Cedarville.
Ryan is the son of Bobby and Kendall Shomo of Marshalltown, Iowa. Both parents attended Cedarville University and Bobby was a four-year member of the Yellow Jacket soccer team.
