@CedarvilleWS advances past Trevecca, 2-1

Box Score CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Jacoby Ziegler and Grace Miorelli scored less than three minutes apart to give the #4 seed Lady Jackets a 2-1 win over #5 Trevecca in a G-MAC quarterfinal match.

The outcome sends Cedarville, 11-4-4, to Elkins, W.Va. where they will meet top seed Davis & Elkins on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. EST in the G-MAC semifinals.

Cedarville and the Trojans had played a pair of 1-1 draws during the regular season. TNU scored first each time and it happened again when the visitors struck in the third minute.

Ziegler equalized in the 44th minute with her 19th goal of the season. Kylie Faxon delivered a hard driven ball from the right flank when the senior forward gathered it in and finished from the penalty spot.

The Jackets needed just 64 seconds into the second half to grab the lead. Ziegler found Miorelli at the top of the box, who curled in a strike just inside the far post with her 11th goal of the campaign.

Hanna Harris was credited with three saves. Trevecca ends its season, 9-7-3.

Thursday's other semifinal G-MAC semifinal at D&E features defending champion and #3 seed Ursuline against #2 Kentucky Wesleyan at 1:30. The Nov. 7 championship kicks off at 1:00 p.m. EST.

Quotable: Head Coach John McGillivray

"The wind and Trevecca putting pressure on our outside backs posed problems for us in the first half. Based on how they played us in Nashville, we were not expecting their outside midfielders or forwards to pressure us.

"Despite giving up the early goal and the energy that brought to Trevecca, our girls hung tough. Getting the equalizing goal right before halftime was big.

"It was great to have Kaleigh Rowlands and Grace (Miorelli) back on the field. When Jacoby (Ziegler) got the ball in the final third today she was always a threat to score.

"It was another solid performance by our back four and Hanna (Harris) in goal. Rachel Hoober gave us a great game playing the holding midfield position. I was so proud of and pleased for the girls."

Numbers Game:
  • Cedarville defeated TNU on its home field for the first time in four meetings (1-2-1).
  • Ziegler's goal was the 59th of her career.
  • The Lady Jackets had the edge in shots: 12-10 overall and 7-4 on goal.
  • Miorelli netted her second game-winner of the season and seventh of her career.
  • CU had a 7-2-2 record at home and was 5-0-2 in the last seven on campus.
  • Trevecca still leads the all-time series, 4-2-2.
