April 25, 2018

The Cedarville men’s golf 2018 spring season concluded this week and did so in typical spring 2018 fashion, in the rain.

Jordan, Isaac, Jared, Hayden, and Carter traveled to Mason, OH to take on Four Bridges Country Club course for the G-MAC Championships. Roughly 29 of the 36 holes on Monday were played in the rain for the Jackets, though it was the second round that it really began to pick up.

Round one saw the team get off to a hot start highlighted by Hayden’s colorful start of birdie, birdie, bogey, double bogey, birdie, bogey. However, the hot start began to cool off for everyone as the team finished with solid, yet disappointing rounds of 76 (Jared) and 77(Isaac) and three 79's, by Jordan, Carter, and Hayden.

The afternoon round saw the team get off to a similarly promising start, until the quartet of Jared, Carter, Hayden and Isaac combine for a whopping +27 in their final five holes which deterred any momentum from the opening 18. Though, unsurprisingly, senior Jordan Reese vastly improved in the afternoon unlike the other Jackets and carded an even par 72 which included five birdies, the other four members failed to break 80.

Tuesday’s round brought very docile weather, which was thought to bring out the best of the Jackets for a final push, but unfortunately it was not meant to be. Jared led the way with a 75 to finished a relatively strong performance overall, as Isaac brought home a 79. Disappointingly, Reese, Carter, and Hayden all failed to break 80 once again as the Jackets only fell backward on the leader board.

An obviously frustrating and disappointing spring is now complete for the boys, as we have some improving to do over the summer. Nevertheless, there were some positives to takeaway from the season this year, the first being the promising look of the freshmen. Mitch and Kyle both made appearances in the starting five this year, along with Isaac Wood who started every match and finished as the year’s most consistent player and arguably best player. Steady Jared followed up a solid freshman year with another good season highlighted by his individual fall qualifying for the NCCAA National Championships. Fellow sophomore Hayden James also emerged as a player the team can count on going forward as he had a good spring season improving tremendously from his freshman year. Carter also returns for his senior year looking to rebound from an altogether frustrating junior year. While the team will miss Jordan, one of the best players in recent years for the Jackets, the young guys along with the new recruits for next year should see a big bounce back season in 2018-19.

Once again, congratulations to our lone senior Jordan Reese on a fantastic career at Cedarville, and best of luck to him on his future endeavor!

Thank you for all the support we have received all year, and especially the parents! (and especially Mama Wood’s brownies)

Have a great summer everyone, and God bless!

April 18, 2018

‘Twas another wonderful weather weekend in Ohio this past week, as the wind was blowing at a constant 25 mph with gusts up to 40. Though, we could hardly ask for anything more, as at least the sun was peaking its way through the clouds and there was no rain in sight; Jared, Isaac, and Carter actually got sunburnt during the practice round for the first time since, well, we can’t even remember.

The team took on Cumberland Trail, which is a course located just outside of Columbus and one that Ohio Dominican University calls home. A few other teams from the G-MAC as well as the region were there so it was a good test to see how the team stood going into the last few days of the season.

All nine members of the team played in the event last week, with the starting five remaining as Jordan, Isaac, Jared, Hayden, and Carter. Mitch, Kyle, Ben, and Jake all competed as individuals.

Round 1 saw the heavy winds take its toll, as the Jackets were not able to muster a single round in the 70's, with the lowest total coming from Jared at 81. Consequently, after Day 1, a round of 80 was good enough for inside the Top Ten.

Round 2 was much better all around as the wind died down slightly and the Jackets took full advantage. Hayden James continued a solid spring season by notching the low round of the day in the field as well as a career low round as a Yellow Jacket posting a -1 round of 71. Shout out to Coach Bowen for reminding HJ the rules of golf on the 15th hole, which saved him from potentially getting DQ’ed. The terminator himself, Jared Hoelzen, ended with 73, which included an interesting stretch of holes on his back nine going Birdie, Triple Bogey, Bogey, Birdie, Birdie! Jordan Reese notched a solid round of 76, as well as Isaac putting up a 77, which gave the Jackets their best day of the spring season so far.

Individually, Ben and Mitch played solidly as well considering the conditions as Mitch shot 80-76, followed by Ben 80-80.

While the Jackets could not catch up to a familiar rival in Malone and streaky Ashland, a third place finish was a building block and maybe just the little bit of momentum we need going into the G-MAC Championship.

The team then left this past Monday for a 36-hole one-day event at Purdue University’s home course. Only five members went to this tournament and the starting five had changed slightly with Jordan, Isaac, Jared, Hayden, being joined by freshman Mitchell Creamer, who was making his starting five debut.

The weather was even better in Indiana, as snow began falling and temperatures at tee-off were below 35 degrees. But the Jackets played through the conditions, and played fairly well. The tournament was shortened to only 18 holes due to the weather, however, the players were disappointed as the team just seemed to be finding a rhythm. Jordan Reese continued to find his stride shooting 74, followed by Isaac at 75, and Hayden at 79. Jared grinded out an 81 to round out the four taken scores for the day.

The team now has a couple days more to bring out the best in their games before the G-MAC Championships starting this coming Monday, and we feel as if some of the pieces are slowly and finally coming together.

Please connect with us online or through social media, and see how we fair at the Four Bridges Country Club in Liberty Township (Mason), Ohio as we look to dethrone G-MAC newcomer Findlay, and familiar foes in Trevecca Nazarene and Malone.

Have a great week everyone, stay warm, and God Bless!

April 3, 2018

In my almost three years of playing golf here at Cedarville, I never once had a tournament canceled due to weather, however, this past Easter break marked the third cancelled event of this spring semester alone! Thank you Midwest.

But in all in all, this was not the worst of circumstances for the Jackets as we were all able to spend a little more time with friends and family and remembering the resurrection of our Savior.

So knock-on-wood, but, the team will hopefully be in action this weekend for a 36-hole one-day event this coming Saturday, April 7th, at Chapel Hill Golf Course in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

As always make sure to check us out on Twitter, as well as the new Instagram account! (cumensgolf)

Have a great week all! God bless!

March 28, 2018

Cedarville men’s golf officially kicked back into gear for this semester with our annual spring break trip! This year, the team traveled down to Georgia to stay at the home of Todd Roberts, who was a former player and teammate of Coach Bowen’s at Cedarville.

The food was aplenty in Georgia as the Roberts’ kept the team well fed, as well as connected us to a couple great courses. The entire team would like to thank Todd and his family once again for hosting us as we all had a fantastic time! (and also apologize again for breaking the upstairs toilet)

After remaining in Georgia for three days, the team traveled north to Pinehurst, North Carolina to stay at the Mid Pines resort. I would like to then give a personal shout out to my Dad, Mike Ehms, for helping us out with some of the logistics in Pinehurst, as he met us there and stayed with us the rest of the week.

Pinehurst was, likewise, fantastic. Though the weather still remained quite cold and the wind was an every day factor, the courses were in great shape and provided us with all necessary means to practice. The team took on Mid Pines, Pine Needles (site of the past U.S. Women’s Opens), and Southern Pines. We were even able to visit Pinehurst #2 and hit a few balls on their driving range, along with taking a few souvenirs and a lot of pictures with the Payne Stewart statue back with us.

Though the quality of golf from the boys was a little rough, the team was able to chip away the rust and spend some great time just hanging out and bonding. During the down time of the trip a few new things were learned amongst the team: (1) Never play Isaac Wood at ping pong, unless you want to lose, (2) Never play Jared at pool, unless you want to lose, (3) Jake Adams loves two things in this world….Marketing, and chimichangas.

Also, happy birthday to Jake Adams over spring break, as well as to Linguini who notched his first ever hole-in-one, at Southern Pines on a bladed 213 yard, 5-iron that somehow managed to hit the green, let alone go in the cup. Linguini was then quoted after the ace, "I literally don’t even care where my next shot goes" until he hit it 80 yards left into the woods which cost him a double. Congrats on the Hole in Uno though, Ben.

On March 25th-27th the Jackets traveled down to Lexington, Kentucky, to finally play in an event that didn’t get canceled like the previous two on the schedule. The course that awaited the team was the University of Kentucky’s home course, which was littered with water, and full of wind.

Jordan Reese led the way for the Jackets, as he was making his first start since spring of 2017. The top five were rounded out by Isaac Wood, Carter Ehms, Jared Hoelzen, and Hayden James. A blustery weather cycle was in store for the tournament, which saw Ehms and Jared buy some pretty stylish earmuffs (though HJ did not agree).

After watching the Jayhawks beat Hayden’s Blue Devils Sunday night, the team was ready and prepared to start off the spring season confidently Monday morning at 11:30. The Man-of-Many-Pars enjoyed the Big Blue course thoroughly as he carded a solid round of (73), followed by Reese (76), Wood (77), and Hayden (79). Ehms struggled to overcome multiple blow-up holes. This was a decent start for the Jackets, but definitely felt as if we left some strokes out on the course.

Day two saw the field take off at 9:00 a.m. shotgun style. The wind was slightly stronger the second day, which saw the Jackets scores take a hit. The day ended with Ehms leading the way with (77), Hayden (78), and Jared (79), while Wood and Reese both had rare off days. This poor finish to day two put the Jackets back in the field and left the team disappointed after a somewhat promising start.

However, we may need to dub someone else the Man-of-Many-Pars, as Hayden was tied for first in the field of 115 with 27 made pars, congrats bro, maybe next time get a bird or two though haha.

The team will travel to Indiana next week to continue the spring season, make sure to keep yourselves updated!

Happy Easter Everyone!

October 18, 2017

Well, what an end to the season it was for the Yellow Jackets.

The St. Louis trip started out just as planned, or at least, just as planned for everyone on the team except for Isaac Tyg Wood. Coach Bowen, Ehms, the Terminator, Katie, and Jake, all left the Callan Athletic Center circle at the scheduled 6:00 a.m. departure and drove straight to…Brock Hall? Yes, that’s right, to pick up Isaac Tyg Wood who was sound asleep. After Jake went in to get Isaac, the team set off on the long drive west to St. Louis around 6:15 a.m., just slightly behind coach’s itinerary. When later questioned about why he had not woken up, Isaac Tyg Wood simply and casually replied, "dude, last night was a fun night." (Take that as you wish ladies and gentleman lol. )

St. Louis was an interesting place. After passing the Gateway Arch, almost every store and side street was spotted with interestingly clad scarecrows and other forms of people in the event, we are assuming, for Halloween, but nonetheless a weird aspect to the city.

After stopping at Jimmy John’s for lunch, the team went straight to the course for the practice round. Upon completion of the practice round, we knew that the course had some potential trouble holes and accuracy would be of upmost importance throughout the tournament. Unfortunately, after Day One of the tournament was finished it was clear only two members from the team picked up on this memo. Tyg Wood threw down another great round of 74, coupled by Jake who shot a career debut score of 77. The other three players’ scores we won’t even discuss, as all the reader needs to know is that they were all in the upper 80's highlighted by the Terminator hitting a range ball thinking it was his own; consequently, causing a two-stroke penalty which was humorously discussed after the round.

Round two was not too much better for the Jackets although Ehms had a polar opposite round, posting a score of 73, though none of other Jackets were able to crack the 80 mark.

This tournament contained many memories, however, just all for the wrong reasons and many-a-scorecard was littered with doubles, triples, penalty strokes, and yes, there was another rain delay. While once again neither the teams total finish nor scores were not at all what we were striving for, St. Louis provided another great tournament of experience for the young guys and debutants on a difficult golf course competing against strong competition.

After a few days rest and a few exams taken, the Jackets set to complete the fall season by hosting the final tournament at our home course CCN (Country Club of the North). Ohio Christian, Cal U. of PA, Ohio Dominican, Alderson Broaddus, and reigning NCAA DIII National Champion Wittenberg University, were able to join us. The same five players that tackled Fox Run in St. Louis continued play to this past weekend, though, the three other members of the team HJ, Creamer, and Linguini also competed as individuals.

Although we were playing at our home course, the team had yet another frustrating day as Tyg Wood and the Terminator posted joint team low scores of 79 each, with the other scores in the low and mid 80's, the Jackets were well out of reach from the top of the leader board.

The morning before the second round the team wanted to take advantage of the fact that we were hosting the event and also the fact that it was Sunday, by putting on a time of worship and devotion for all the visiting teams. Members of the Cedarville golf team, Coach Bowen and other members of the Cedarville Athletic Department, were led in a time fellowship by Cedarville Golf Team Chaplain, Nick Boucher, that was able to be held in the course clubhouse. Though, unfortunately, no other teams followed up on the invite to the half-hour long event, it was still a great time for the Cedarville community to bond as players, faculty, and many parents of the players who came out to support were able to get to know each other better and share a time with God and remember the real reasons why we do what we do as Christians.

After our time with Nick, the team set out for the last round of the year aaaaaaaaaand…the results were sadly more of the same frustrating rounds of golf that we have had to put up with all season, except for Tyg Wood. Hayden’s memorable quote on the driving range before the round summed up the conditions very well as he stated, "Today, I think the only thing I can do is just going to launch my ball up into the heavy gales and let God take over." But despite the conditions which included rain and cold, Isaac Tyg Wood posted a great score of 76, which gave him a third-place finish individually and rounded out a very impressive opening season. HJ’s strategy apparently worked for him as he also finished off the season on a high note shooting a 77, one of the best scores on the day, and giving him a Top 10 finish individually as well. The rest of the team are all still trying to figure just what happened out there quite honestly as the result is nowhere near what the team as a whole is capable of. The team ended the tournament in the middle of the pack, a disappointing finish to a tournament, which was won by the Jackets by over 20 strokes last year.

In conclusion, this was a season filled with highs and lows, laughs and moments of angst, and now it is all of a sudden over…Except for the Terminator!!! Please do not forget to track Jared Hoelzen’s progress down in Florida for the NCCAA National Championships which he qualified for during the NCCAA Regional in Warsaw, Indiana a few weeks ago. We all wish Jared luck on this 54-hole warm and sunny event.

We have lots of work to put in during the winter and early spring, but we are all confident and driven to see all our hard work come to fruition for the spring season. Thank you all for reading, looking forward to getting back at it soon!

Go Jackets!

October 8, 2017

This past week was a light one for the Jackets as the team was able to rest up and practice for the St. Louis trip.

Although, Jake Adams will be making his tournament debut this week as he won the inner squad qualifier to claim the final spot within the team.

Another short game practice at TPC Reese took place as well in the middle of the week, as well as our team Bible study with Lawlor RD Nick Boucher. Occurring twice a month, Nick the Team Chaplain, continues to lead the team through I Peter and this has been a great way for the team to get to know each other even better and become closer off the course.

Please keep an eye for the team this week as we play in our first NCAA Midwest Regional of the year!

October 2, 2017

It was NCCAA Midwest Regional time once again as the Jackets headed to Warsaw, Indiana last week to play at Stonehenge Golf Course. Although we brought some new faces to regionals this year, the team looked to defend its title and get the automatic bid to qualify once more for nationals in Florida.

The entire team traveled for this tournament with the starting five from the previous week’s team remaining intact. After an entertaining practice round which saw five chip-ins, and a 50-foot high flop shot off coaches cart from Katie, Stonehenge seemed like a course that would provide many birdie opportunities, but also some tricky finishing holes that we would have to watch out for.

Monday’s round began in the sweltering heat and little wind as getting water from coach’s cart would become a common occurrence throughout the week. The opening nine holes for everyone began just as we would have liked with Gerardo carding a 34 (-1) along with Ehms posting an even par 35. However, despite Isaac Tig Wood making 15 pars and Ehms being -1 through 13, the two only posted final scores of 75 and 76. The roommate duo Gerardo (71) and Katie (74) put up great rounds and carried the team, as the Jackets finished a 296 total after day one, putting us six strokes behind the leaders Indiana Wesleyan. Hayden also grinded out 14 pars but with a few doubles had to settle for a 78, which rounded out the team. Competing as individuals for the tournament were Jake, Creamer and Linguini, who posted a 76, 78, and 84 respectively.

After a dinner hosted by Grace College for the all the teams, we headed back to the Wyndham to rewind. After a brief meeting with coach, we all headed straight to the hot tub. Starting a new team tradition, HJ demanded we listen to Spanish club music while in the hot tub; Ehms was consequently unanimously voted the worst dancer on the team, while HJ was, to no surprise, the best. Coach Bowen was also on the scene in the hotel as he claimed he was the best Galaga arcade player on the team (which he was).

We knew in round two that we needed to be on our "A" game, and we definitely gave it our best shot. Isaac Tig Wood played a great round and despite bogeying the par five 18th, still posted an even par 71 furthering a great start to his Yellow Jacket career. Ehms and Katie both had interesting rounds as Kyle shot 77 with two triples, while Ehms shot another 76 with two doubles, and a quadruple. HJ turned in another solid round of 78, which included a shot that traveled into a nearby viaduct tunnel which was a memorable story on the van ride home. Although the man who stole the show was the Terminator himself, as the man of many pars bogeyed his first hole, then proceeded to make one birdie and one bogey the whole rest of his round on his way to posting a +1 72. His 71-72 showing not only led the team, but Gerardo also qualified himself individually to the NCCAA National Championships by posting the lowest two-day total by a player not on the winning team.

Unfortunately, though we played solidly, it was not enough to overcome Indiana Wesleyan in the end as they posted a fantastic final round score of 282 to win.

The team definitely made strides this week and gained valuable experience and we are now just even hungrier to continue to get better. Make sure to wish Jared Hoelzen the best of luck at Nationals at the end of the month, and please be keeping up with the team on golfstat.com and our other social media outlets!

The team will be seen next in St. Louis as we prepare to play in our first NCAA Regional of the year.

Go Jackets!

September 23, 2017

Well, it did not take long for the 2017-18 golf season to have a tournament that saw rain. Though, as always, the practice provided fantastic weather for us as Coach, Gerardo, Ehms, Wood, Katie, and HJ set out last Sunday afternoon to Findlay Country Club.

Monday’s round started off with a bang as we played the par 5 first hole at a team combined total of +6, and that rough start sent the team into recovery mode more quickly than we all would have wanted. The rain only lasted for a couple of the holes on the front nine, and the rest of the day was relatively pleasant other than our play. Consequently, the team ended with cards of 75 from Ehms and 77 from Wood, coupled with a 79 from Hayden and an 81 from Katie. This finish put us into a bit of a hole going into round two, although it gave us the confidence to just go out with the mindset to play free with nothing to lose.

On Tuesday the weather did not disappoint as even when the team got to the course around 7:45 a.m. there was lightning in the area, which temporarily delayed our warm-up. With Ehms being the last to tee off at 9:36, the rain then came around 9:42 in the middle of the fairway of the first hole and would continue to be off and on heavy showers for the remainder of everyone’s opening nine. Though that did not seem to hamper our play to start as the team went -3 on the first hole this time around, with Coach proudly looking on. Continually, I’m not quite sure how long it took us to play that front nine but through two mini delays in play, and an hour wait between holes 8-10, it was a long time. Ironically, after gutting it through the conditions all day, the tournament was shortened to a 27-hole event because of more lightning. HJ, Katie, and Gerardo had actually finished their rounds of 18, but Wood and Ehms were frozen out on the fairway of the 18th. This was unfortunate for Wood as he was on his way to a -2 under round of 70 had we been able to finish. However, despite only counting the front nine, the team moved up the leaderboard with scores of 35 from Wood, 36 from Ehms, and 39 from Katie, leading the way. This did move the Jackets up to 8th place overall from 10th.

This trip, though, was also not short of comical moments off the course. After Pizza Hut pizza and mountains of goodies from Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Bowen, the team definitely ate well during our time in northern Ohio. Sunday and Monday Night Football was also an ever-present event in the hotel rooms this week, accompanied by many NFL trivia facts and stories from Gerardo and Hayden constantly singing random songs in his trademark high pitched singing voice. We also found out that Katie was not aware that drive-thru pharmacy’s existed and also how much Gerardo hates Aaron Rodgers. Another highlight of the trip was when the five players were walking back to the van from the course as Hayden all of a sudden jumped up in the air and let out a few girly shouts. We all were not exactly sure what was going until we looked down at the ground and saw a tiny baby snake only about eight inches long that HJ had almost stepped on. The self-proclaimed tough guy from Huntington was put down by a little snake, something none of us will forget anytime soon.

After a van ride home full of laughs, naps, (a little bit of homework), and Gerardo asking Carter every 10 minutes for help on accounting, the team made it back to Cedarville. Disappointed and frustrated, the team is also taking some positives from the week as we prepare for one of the most important events of the year, the NCCAA regional qualifier. This tournament will be played in Indiana at Grace College’s home course that will send the Jackets down to Florida if we return home with a tournament victory. We did the job last year, and the team is hungry to finally put together the rounds we have been waiting for.

Don’t forget to keep yourself posted with the teams latest news, updates, and pictures on our website, Twitter, and Instagram!

Until next time, GO JACKETS!

September 16, 2017

With no tournament this past week, the team spent much of the week practicing in preparation for the upcoming event at Findlay’s home course. The week started off by Coach Bowen setting up a mini Ryder Cup style practice that consisted of two alternate shot match play matches. The nine-hole matches first saw Jared and Jake take on the roommate duo of Creamer and Wood, which ended in the Terminator and Jake taking home bragging rights after two playoff holes. The other match featured Tillinghast and HJ taking on Ehms and none other than Coach Bowen. (Earlier in the week, Linguini continued his apparent chronic clumsiness and tripped on the sidewalk walking back from Chuck’s, consequently spraining his right elbow. This injury will unfortunately leave the ‘Little Chef’ sidelined for at least the next seven days). The Long Island and Huntington pair took down the old veterans 2 up ending on the 9th hole.

Also in preparation for next week, the team spent an evening at TPC Reese specifically working on putting and pace. (Jordan Reese’s house in town that contains a legit green/short game area in the backyard). And while Wood did altogether understand a particular one of the pace drills, the freshman from PA claimed the around-the-world putting contest at the end edging out Ehms and Reese.

Practice on the on-campus driving range also ensued during the week as the team concentrated on wedge flight and distance control. Always having a game implemented into the regime, Coach put together a distance control contest amongst the players, which to no surprise from this year’s group became pretty competitive. The players had to first land their ball on top of a garbage can lid at 30 yards, and then continually work their way up to a small green size target at 95 yards. There were seven targets in total, and the player had to hit all seven targets, snaking back to the starting point of the garbage can lid to finish. All the freshmen competed against each other in the first wave of this drill, aside from Linguini who entertained himself by repeatedly attempting to hit one-armed lefty wedges while trying not to get his pearly white Nike Air Max’s muddy. Despite Tillinghast hitting the garbage can lid on his very first shot, he failed to hit it all on the way back allowing for Creamer to snatch the W. The upperclassmen went next and Ehms won wire-to-wire while holding off a valiant comeback from Hayden. Meanwhile the Terminator, aka Man of Many Pars, aka Hoelzen-in-One, aka Boy from Iowa, came in last place after taking a memorable time of 35 minutes to hit the garbage can lid for his first target.

That practice also ended with the team getting two more fresh UA shirts and the team hat from coach, as we were all especially pumped to get the highly anticipated yellow shirt.

That was all from this past week however, please keep up with the team this week - Monday and Tuesday at Findlay - on Twitter or the Yellow Jacket website as we look to get back on track!

September 7, 2017

Welcome to the 2017-18 Cedarville men's golf team blog! My name is Carter Ehms and I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a junior Business Management and Finance major. This is my third year being a member of the golf team at Cedarville University and I am so excited to have the privilege of writing the team blog this year. I hope you all enjoy this blog and use it as a way to see a little bit into the life of a Cedarville golfer!

This past week the Cedarville men's golf fall season kicked off in Blacklick, Ohio, at Jefferson County Country Club for the second year in a row. Plenty of new faces have entered the squad this year, as four freshmen have come our way. While you will hopefully get to know these new young guns throughout the year, here is a list of the nine players that make up the Yellow Jackets in 2017-18:

  • Jordan Reese - Sr. / Cedarville, OH
  • Carter Ehms - Jr. / Pittsburgh, PA
  • Jacob Adams - Jr. / Miamisburg, OH
  • Jared Hoelzen - So. / West Burlington, IA
  • Hayden James - So. / Proctorville, OH
  • Isaac Wood - Fr. / Hollidaysburg, PA
  • Kyle Tillinghast - Fr. / Manorville, NY
  • Mitchell Creamer - Fr. / Washington Court House, OH
  • Benjamin Sheard (Linguini) - Fr. / Elizabethtown, PA

With a successful first week of inner squad qualifying under our belts, eight out of the nine of us headed to JCC excited to start off the year strong. Thankfully, the forecasted rain held off for the 36-hole one-day event, so other than a slight breeze, the conditions were prime for early September golf. After receiving our new baby blue shirts from Coach Bowen, and waiting through a brief fog delay, all players were off around 9:15 a.m. shotgun style.

The returning players had all seen the course before, and this seemed to help out the sophomores as Jared Hoelzen (79-74) and Hayden James (75-81) improved dramatically from their freshman year performances and finished 1st and 2nd within the team, respectively. HJ boldly stuck to his game plan of keeping the ball in play off the tee at all costs, which was exemplified by him hitting #4 iron off the tee on the 615 yard par five 18th in both rounds, resulting in a -1 score on that hole on the day. Jared, aka 'man of many pars' parred the course to death as always. The juniors, Adams and Ehms had their fair share of struggles on the day and posted scores in the low 80's, but were aided by some impressive college debut rounds from Wood (79-78) and Tillinghast (79-79). These rounds each had a story to tell as Wood's 78 contained a score of a 10 on a par four (a few balls in the water), but grinding through the other 17 holes, playing them at even par, a very solid score all things considered. Tillinghast's round was highlighted by an alleged 'Tiger-esc' club twirl from the fairway giving him a 20-foot attempt at birdie. (PS: Don't be afraid to catch the sarcasm throughout this blog). Linguini and Creamer both opened with solid rounds at 80 and 81, but had some frustrations later on throughout the course of the almost ten hour round.

The day after the tournament saw the team head over to Coach Bowen's house for a bonfire, s'mores, and some pickup basketball with volleyball on the grass in coach's backyard in which Linguini and Ehms ultimately took down Wood and HJ 10-6. We then later met with Nick Boucher the Lawlor RD and Golf Team Chaplain for our first of bi-weekly devotionals. The night with Nick was going along great until Linguini sat down and broke one of coach's lawn chairs, while making his best Draymond Green flailing impersonation in the process.

The team now has a few extra days to practice before our next tournament which comes on September 18-19 and I have no doubt we will all bounce back quickly and have a great showing there at the G-MAC Fall Invitational at the University Findlay!
