CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Alison Lemon hit a pair of late field goals to rescue the NAIA Division II #8 Lady Jackets from Houghton's upset bid for a 64-63 American Mideast Conference win.
The visiting Highlanders erased a 14-point deficit to take their only lead of the game, 59-57, with 2:30 left. Lemon buried a three-pointer at the 1:17 mark to give Cedarville the lead for good and then added a lay-in with 24 seconds left.
After Houghton closed the gap to one, Kara Cayton made both ends of a one-and-one with eight seconds to go for a 64-61 edge. CU elected to foul with 1.3 seconds on the clock and the Highlanders made one free throw, missed the second, and secured the rebound while being fouled again with 0.8 seconds remaining. The visitors missed the first and made the second free throw to account for the final.
Lemon ended up with 18 points for the Lady Jackets, 15-3 overall and 6-1 AMC, who won for the seventh straight time. Rachel Hurley pumped in 12 points with Cayton providing 11. Aubrey Siemon and Caitlyn Brooks hauled in 10 rebounds apiece. Houghton drops to 10-5 and 5-3 AMC. [STATS]
