CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The NAIA Division II #3 Lady Jackets blew out #20 Walsh, 83-56, in the Callan Athletic Center to take over sole possession of first place in the American Mideast Conference.
This one was expected to be a tight affair. Cedarville had run off nine consecutive victories while the Cavaliers came to town riding an eight-game winning streak. What's more, Walsh needed overtime to edge CU, 79-76, in Canton on Dec. 1.
However, the Lady Jackets made their first six shots in streaking to a 15-3 lead before the game was even four minutes old. They scored the last six points for a 48-35 halftime margin and then widened the gap to 19 with 12:55 left.
A 13-2 run for a whopping 76-50 bulge with 5:05 remaining ended any hopes Walsh had of making a comeback. The largest difference was 28 points, 80-52, at the 3:25 mark.
Alison Lemon flipped in 27 points to pace Cedarville, 18-3 and 9-1, and winners of 10 in a row. Kara Cayton came off the bench with 18 points while Aubrey Siemon added 13 points and matched her career-high with 19 rebounds.
The Lady Jackets drained 10-of-23 three-pointers and owned the boards, 49-31. Walsh drops to 16-6 and 9-2 AMC. [STATS]
