PITTSBURGH, Pa. - It may not have been pretty, but the NAIA Division II #3 Lady Jackets ended a tiring week with a 51-47 American Mideast Conference victory at Point Park.
It was the 12th consecutive win for league-leading Cedarville, 20-3 overall and 11-1 AMC. The Jackets won three games in five days including a pair on the road in less than 48 hours.
CU scored the first six points of the contest and yielded the lead only once, trailing 22-21 with three minutes left in the first half. A lay-up by Julie Utz with three seconds to go capped off a six-point run for a 27-22 edge at the break.
The Lady Jackets managed to open up a 43-33 bulge with 9:55 remaining on Kara Cayton's only three-pointer of the game. However, the Pioneers closed to within 49-47 with 1:12 on the clock.
Cedarville missed a three-pointer on its next possession, but Caitlyn Brooks grabbed the all-important rebound. The Jackets called timeout and Alison Lemon got a lay-up with 17 seconds left to finish the scoring.
Lemon was the lone CU player in double figures with 16 points. Aubrey Siemon had eight points with a game-high 15 rebounds.
The Jackets won despite enduring season-lows for points, field goal percentage, and three-point percentage. Point Park is 11-10 and 7-6 AMC. [STATS]
